What Books Are You Listening To?
I finished listening to Invasion of the Body Snatchers narrated by Kristoffer Tabori and it was excellent. Now I'm listening to Graveyard Shift.
started The Accidental Alchemist today. damn it!! I want a pet gargoyle! this is the 3rd book I've read where these girls have a pet gargoyle. what do I have to do to get one?!?!
David wrote: "I've struggled to find a whole lot of listening time, but still really enjoying The Martian."I read the book and liked it, but I have a hard time understanding why it's become such a phenomenon. Very technical, even if it did have an interesting and sympathetic protagonist. I can't imagine my wife liking it.

People love Mars and its always been something that's 30 years away, they want to visualize the mission right now. I now hear that the NASA missions will begin in 2035 and who knows if the Mars one plan is legit, i'm starting to have my doubts. Its looking more like a scam. I hope i'm wrong but they're showing no evidence of how they're going to accomplish that mission, they need billions and so far they've raised less than a million dollars. Nasa announced they found liquid water on Mars yesterday and that's exciting news for colonization in the future. But hopefully they'll get there sooner, I know Elon Musk is pushing for it and he has a proven track record.
I'm reading (listening) The First Bird: Episode 2 by Greig Beck. I've been eyeing this series for a while and then it came up as a Daily Deal on Audible ($1.95). So far it's really entertaining and far better than I expected. If you need a Creature Feature fix as I often do, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

oh I hated it too, I did not even finish it.
David wrote:" A curious question: Is shelving audiobooks one has listened to as "read" considered to be cheating?"No, absolutely not. The goal of reading is to comprehend a text. If you've done that, it hardly matters matters whether you've used your eyes or ears. If you know the book, you know the book, and you can truthfully say you've read the book. Sometimes I read; sometimes I listen. Sometimes I read along with the audiobook. The goal is always the same though: to process something someone has written and know it.
I am listening to It by Stephen King. Then i will watch the movie. My hubby wants to know which one i think is scarier.
I did the same thing after I listened to it. I thought the book was. I had seen the movie years ago but I didn't remember how it ended. That was some scary writing!!!
I don't consider listening to the book cheating at all. I have friends who are blind. Someday I want to listen to books with them; we like the same sorts of books.
I just recently listened to the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I thought the narrator was excellent! I believe that the narrators dad may have been the director of the first film made from the book. I'm still listening, and highly digging, Kate Mulgrew's narration of NOS4A2. However, I'm going to briefly set it aside to listen to You're Never Weird on the Internet, which came in for me at the library. Which works out perfectly, because I wanted to slow down on NOS4A2 and really savor the performance.
Started listening to Locke & Key this morning during my commute - awesome audio drama so far (only about 20 minutes into it, and lots of story left). And still FREE on Audible! :)

I've been doing a lot of older (and newer) McCammon on audio. Currently, I'm listening to "The Wolf's Hour."
Michael wrote: "Haven't started it yet, but Audible's Daily Deal is Invasion of the Body Snatchers."This made my day! They need to do more horror in October, like the big sale last year.

I'm new to audiobooks, but would absolutely love to see a big horror sale. The last two years have been great for snagging Kindle copies of Laymon titles and other various horror works.
Charlene wrote: "I'm listening to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The narrator is awesome. :)"It's next on my list. Also, a book Stephen King recommended called "The Four."
Charlene wrote: "I loved The Martian! I hope you like it, David. :)I'm starting Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It should be fun. :)"
I loved the Martian too. Discovered it much the same way I discovered "Wool." I don't read a lot of sci-fi, but I found them both to be great, old-school, thrills.

They're amazingly inexpensive, once you agree to the monthly contract. I uses the monthly $14.95 credit for expensive new releases... King, Rice, etc. I usually pick up a few "daily deals" a month (less than $5), and then look for the sales (last year 200 hundred horror titles for $9.95 or less, most under $5.95). You can also search by price... free, under $5, under $10, etc.
White Trash Zombie Gone Wild I lovvvvvvve this series!! Angel is funny and even though she's a zombie, she's totally realistic.
Happy Accidents which I'm enjoying more than Bossypants. Makes me want to go for a drive just to listen to more...
I'm back to listening to NOS4A2 which is awesome. I just finished listening to You're Never Weird on the Internet by Felicia Day, which I downloaded from my library. It was entertaining, even though I had no idea who she was. :)
I'm currently listening to Reckless: My Life as a Pretender by Chrissie Hynd, narrated by Rosanna Arquette.
My current listen is a military sci-fi title, THE TRIALS by Linda Nagata, and book two in her "The Red" trilogy.
I finished up the stand and will soon be starting Harry potter!! I'm gonna re-read or listen to the whole series. tried to get my 10yr old niece to read with me but she "hates harry potter" even though she hasn't read any of the books or watched 1 of the movies all the way through :(
I'm listening to Billy Crystal's Still Foolin' 'Em: Where I've Been, Where I'm Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys, narrated by Billy himself. I find myself laughing out loud here and there. It's fun. :)
I'm almost finished with
and it's amazing. I'm seriously impressed with the book itself and I love the narrator. Highly recommend it

I'm just finishing our Group Listen-Locke & Key. It was most excellent!
Up next are two: The Bleeding Season and Fry's English Delight: Series 1.

If so, I need to seriously edit my shelves. How am I supposed to read while I drive?
