Definitely The Giver by Lois Lowry, and it's one of the most sought out books in this group. It's a wonderful book.

Amazing this isn't marked solved already. It is THE GIVER by Lois Lowry.

Note: There are now four books, to complete this series. I'm reading the fourth, called SON. It revisits the setting in THE GIVER.
