Max Davis wasn’t looking to find a girl like Lacey Griffin when he was driving down a dark deserted road. The little damsel in distress grabbed his attention by the balls and wouldn’t let go. He didn’t come from the best background, had partaken in plenty of shady dealings in the twenty-one years of his life. But seeing her wandering around town alone and scared stirred his protective instincts that up until that moment had been dormant.

After her last relationship ends with her fleeing into the night, Lacey sure as hell isn’t looking for male attention. Especially not from one as mysterious as Max. Sparks ignite almost instantly and judgment, along with good old self preservation, evaporate into thin air as the two get swept up in a whirl of passion and tangled sheets.

What happens when a reformed bad boy trying to put his past behind him and forget his family’s dark legacy meets a sweet girl trying to escape a real life nightmare and cope with the curve-ball life threw at her?

This book contains sex, violence and explicit language.
HEA guaranteed. Can be read as a standalone.Sparks Fly

James | 9 comments My 6th McCabe/Savage thriller, A Fatal Obsession, comes out on August 21st. Here's the summary:

Someone’s watching...

Zoe McCabe is a beautiful young actress on the verge of stardom who has been basking in the standing ovations and rave reviews she’s been getting from critics and fans alike for her portrayal of Desdemona in an off-Broadway production of Othello. As she takes her final bows, Zoe has no idea that, seated in the audience, a man has been studying her night after night, performance after performance. A man whose carefully crafted plans are for the young actress to take a starring role in a far deadlier production he has created just for her.

Portland, Maine detectives Mike McCabe and Maggie Savage are settling into the new rhythm of their relationship when McCabe gets a late night call from his brother Bobby that Zoe, McCabe's favorite niece and Bobby’s daughter, has suddenly disappeared. The NYPD is certain Zoe's abduction is the work of the man the tabloids have dubbed “The Star Struck Strangler,” a killer who has been kidnapping, abusing and finally strangling one beautiful young performer after another. Bobby begs McCabe to return to the New York City crime beat he’d left behind so many years ago, to work his old connections, and to help find Zoe before her time runs out. The stakes for McCabe and Savage have never been higher. Or more personal. And suddenly the race is on to stop a vicious attacker, before the McCabe family is torn apart beyond repair.

C. Coleman (kiousfedra) | 51 comments The recently released Darius Morefield Mystery Series books could really use some reviews to get it off the ground running. It's a trilogy about three students, Darius a budding sleuth, Alex a zany character, and Myrtle a young lady to be reckoned with, who stumble on murders old and new. There's a dash of paranormal in the first book.

Please take a gander at 'The Rocking Crate,' book 1 where Darius becomes supersensitive to the energies and emotions of those around him due to the traumatic death of his father. His sensitivity reveals murders old and new.

'Locked in the Past,' book 2 looks at the last days of Victorian splendor in a small Southern town where the agricultural oligarchs begrudgingly give way to industrial encroachment.

'Orientation to Murder,' book 3 shows the three entering college and again getting involved in a murder when a new friend is accused unjustly.

While they could stand alone, they are best read in sequence to enjoy the character relationships most.

The books are on Amazon, paperback, Kindle, and KU or I can send you a MOBI file. Please review after reading them. Reviews are the lifeblood of authors.

She has to find a way to cope with the occasional pesky spirit, a tempting man from her past, a dysfunctional and supernaturally gifted family, and a murderous demon on the loose. J. Saman | 17 comments Reckless Love: A second Chance Romance is a friends-to-lovers, second-chance, standalone romance!

Jameson
I let her slip through my fingers…
No, that’s a lie. I was reckless and pushed her away.
I was never supposed to fall for her. She was my tutor. My best friend. My fantasy. I tried to stay away. I failed.
Then we graduated and everything changed. All I needed was a step back. A moment to breathe… And by the time I came up for air, she was in the arms of another man.
Four years later, everything is different. And when I see her again, I remember why I should have never let her go in the first place.

Lyric
It started on day one…
New school. New life. And there he was, the boy I grew up with, walking up the steps of my very first class. Except now, the boy from my memories was gone, and his place was an Adonis of a man.
It didn’t take much for me to fall for him. Even though I knew we were doomed from the start. But when you find something that perfect, you don’t second guess it.
Until it ends.
Four years later, he’s back. Steamrolling through my life like he never broke my heart to begin with. Only this time, I’m older, wiser and know that second chances are the stuff of fairytales.

Ruth O'Neill | 36 comments Befriended a contemporary thriller would love some reviews.
Some secrets never leave us alone...

Gemma Peacock’s life was perfect – or at least, she thought it was. She had a home she loved, a job she enjoyed, and a husband she adored. The only cloud on the horizon was the continuing tension between Gemma and her mother-in-law, but that’s the same for everyone, right?

After the death of her beloved husband, Ritchie, everything begins to fall apart.

Indiana Manors’ life, on the other hand, is far from perfect – but she knows just what she has to do to fix it. Befriend Gemma Peacock – and destroy her.

Befriended is an exciting, contemporary thriller that will keep you on the very edge of your seat. This book will toy with your emotions time and time again – and keep you coming back for more.

But will her determination to keep everyone out see her lose the only person who could heal her broken soul?

The title of the novel identifies the central characters. The beginning of the novel is September 1583, ten months before the English appear at Roanoke Island. 17-year-old Alsoomse desires freedom to doubt, discover, and aspire without Algonquian tribal hindrance. She pushes continuously against tribal convention, the imposed role of women, and the dictatorial authority of men, rulers and priests. 19-year-old Wanchese’s short-temper and quest to prove himself worthy of his deceased father's expectations lead him several times into dangerous conflict with one of his tribal ruler’s essential subordinates and into life and death combat.

STOLEN HORSES

When Charles Goodnight sends for the nearest Texas Rangers, Sergeant John Everett Sage knows the problem must be big. Six desperados stole eighteen head of Goodnight’s horses and killed his wrangler. The famous cattleman could handle it himself, but he’s trying to build a ranch. Tracking down the murderous horse thieves is a job for the Rangers.
Sage’s friend and scout, Yellow Horse, has just returned from the Indian Territory. Together, with a few men, they set out to track down the Murdock gang and return the stolen horses.
How far will a Texas Ranger go to recover stolen horses?
How far will a Comanche warrior go to seek justice for the murder of a friend?
The outlaws are expecting them.
Set in Texas and parts of the Santa Fe Trail in the late 1870’s. A tale of endurance, justice and bringing the rule of law into a time and place not yet civilized. Another great book for fans of Dan Arnold’s Historical Fiction works. Fans of Louis L’ Amour will love this Christian Western which may also remind them of Robert B. Parker, Elmore Leonard and Larry McMurtry.

As Book Three of the Finding Billy Battles trilogy begins we know where Billy is. In this debut book of poetry, Timeless Tales (releasing 8/12/2018), by John Alexander, the lilting verses offer inspiration to soothe your weary soul. The poems, born out of a journey through rough times, reach into your soul with rhymes that speak to your heart.

The poems, all in rhyme, share the author’s journey, including stories to enjoy through the lens of your inner child (keep these for yourself or share with the children in your life), rhymes of blessing, and rhymes that shine into the soul of the author.

A rhyme rose within me,
it caused me to smile.
It focused my thoughts,
I escaped for a while.

This memoir - 'So, what next - a look, with hindsight, at the modern world -was written as a way of coming to terms with the loss of my husband and best mate, who died suddenly after 38 years of great partnership. While writing it, I also realised that at my great age I had lived through quite a lot of modern history, so it became a commentary on 20th and early 21st century events. It includes many world changes, the Cold War, climbing, long distance canoeing, recovery from addiction - and the hope that our world will recover from the problems with which we have afflicted it. It also covers the life story of my late husband, George Spenceley, a Bomber Command pilot and prisoner of war in World War 2 and a climber who has a glacier named after him on the Antarctic island of South Georgia.
It was published as a Kindle eBook in August 2017 and as a paperback in February 2018.

Annah-Belle Henderson emerged from the attack on her life with a determination to reclaim the joy she'd found in the arms of Eric Ashworth. Their short time together hadn’t been enough—she wanted more. More love without the entanglement of her past mistakes. More joy without the doubts that came with dating a younger man. More passion. Amanda Leanne (theamandaleanne) | 4 comments Sever the Circle by Amanda Leanne

Life for me and mine was set. Wood Women, witches to many, had a cycle. There were only two Wood Women alive at a time, a mother and her daughter. As the daughter beget her own, her mother would cease to be. But that wasn't the only circle that justified our life.
The town was ours and we belonged to them. The crops flourished and the seasons changed, as was our want. We wove the tapestry of the town, trimmed the frayed threads, added the new ones, removed those that had faded, and kept the picture beautiful and trapped within a bubble of our making. They knew only of which we wanted them to, no more or less,.

As stories are often about a change, a disruption, so is this one. The circle of the lives of the Wood Women, the life of the town, and the sphere we had built to keep it all contained in was challenged, attacked, and eventually severed. There was another darkness in the night, untouched by moon and fire, and it held the secrets that would be our undoing.

"I am a Wood Woman. One from a long line of Wood Women. We are the forest, from and of, and we are the caretakers of the town. We see and we mend, we care and we tend."

"I don't understand." His eyes were narrowed as he searched my face. As much as he complimented me on my observations, he was a bit keen, himself. "If you are saying what I think you are saying, I am unsure how to proceed."

"Would you burn me at the stake for healing the sick? For helping women birth babes? For making sure the harvests are good and rains come when needed?"

"No, not for those things."

"But for other things? Do I sacrifice the young and eat their hearts?" I couldn't help but laugh, a deeper laugh than I had ever felt any time before. His face was frozen but then cracked, his lips widened into a reluctant smile. "I assure you that all I hunt in the forest is small game, not humans, and that I prefer my meat well cooked. Stews are nice and keep for days."

"I see. Do you not have a being you pray to, though? An entity that holds your hand and controls your heart and mind?"

"Only myself, Zariah. There are no devils or demons here."

Books by Sheree Smith (shereezy) | 9 comments Well, its taken longer than expected but my new third book Wild Seas has now been published on Kindle. It can be purchased on Amazon (link below) for £1.99 or $2.61. The hardbacked version will be out in the near future.
This time I've veered away from the usual Romantic Suspense I have written about before in Darkest Obsession and A Way to Escape and moved to a more family-based drama of both love and tragedy. I have taken again inspiration from my local surroundings. Flinick, where the story is set, is based on the local fishing/seaside resort of Seahouses and the Fable Isles are really the Farne Islands.

Some of the selections draw their power from the rich diversity of South Texas. Others evoke the sea, the dunes, or the flat and forbidding terrain. Many have nothing to do with South Texas. The writers bind the collection together with their imaginative outlooks. This book holds everything from fiction to poetry, and there are submissions that fall somewhere in between.

R. Flowers | 205 comments Award-winning criminologist R Barri Flowers, best-selling author of Murder at the Pencil Factory, delivers again in the gripping new historical true-crime audio short, Murder of the U.S. Attorney: Congressman Sickles’ Crime of Passion in 1859
On February 27, 1859, Philip Barton Key II, the 40-year-old US attorney for the District of Columbia, was gunned down while standing in Lafayette Square, a public park across from the White House. His killer was Rep. Daniel Sickles, a 39-year-old New York congressman and lawyer who had a striking young wife, Teresa Sickles, with whom Key had been having an affair.
Upon discovering his wife's infidelity, Sickles became enraged and had the deadly encounter with her suitor. Afterward, he surrendered to authorities, confessed, was charged with murder, and went to trial.
In spite of the cold-blooded and premeditated nature of the attack, Sickles used a defense of temporary insanity for his actions, the first such time this type of legal defense was employed in the US. He was acquitted as a result and the "temporarily insane" justification for homicide or other serious intimate-involved offenses became a common defense for so-called crimes of passion.
Sickles, who was no stranger to public scandals and controversy, was able to effectively get away with murder. He would reconcile with his wife for a short time, continue a career in politics, and become a decorated soldier for the Union Army during the Civil War and a diplomat before dying in his 90s.
His long life aside, taking the life of his wife's lover, Philip Key, in a fit of jealousy would forever remain a major part of Daniel Sickles' legacy, as chronicled in this compelling trip back in time of more than 150 years.
Bonus material includes a complete historical true-crime short, Dead at the Saddleworth Moor, and excerpts from the author's best-selling true-crime anthologies, The Dreadful Acts of Jack the Ripper and Murder and Menace: Riveting True Crime Tales, Vol. Three.

Clara Walker | 34 comments WHISPERS...Book 2 of the Sex & Secrets series is now available in both print and eBooks on Amazon! Clara Grace Walker, Author of Glamorous, Dangerous Romance, invites you to set sail for Cannibal Island...if you dare.

Reportedly the most haunted place on Earth, paranormal investigator Lila Goodwell has arrived on the deserted, Caribbean Island to film her Halloween special. While she was hoping for the strange occurrences that happen during her month-long shoot, what she wasn't expecting was to encounter the island's mysterious, billionaire owner, Sam Peterson.

Sam makes Lila's pulse race faster than the strange laughter she hears echoing in the breeze, and heightens her senses more than than the strange pirate apparition that threatens her near the island's treacherous cliffs. Her taste in men has always left her heart-broken, and she doubts she'll fare much better where the lonely, brooding Sam is concerned.

Sam Peterson has lost everything. After his wife and children died in a horrible yachting accident, he retreated from the world, burying himself in his top secret work for the Department of Defense. Lost in his own isolate existence, Sam has no need for female companionship...especially the one who's arrived on his island, threatening to uncover the secrets of his work...and who makes him feel things he's vowed never to feel again.

To combat Lila's intrusion into his hermetic life, Sam hatches a plan that will keep people off his island forever, and ruin Lila's show in the process. There are other, more sinister forces, at work on Cannibal Island, however. And while Sam frets over carrying out his plan, and Lila fears losing a man who is already lost, a deadly plan is being carried out that will either bring them together, or kill them both.

Mark is one of those few, surviving in the forest on the edge of his hometown in crippling isolation. His existence is purposeless. He scavenges for what he can whilst doing everything to avoid the Hunters, deadly creatures that stalk through the ruins in search of prey. Then one day Mark finds something on one of his journeys. Something he never imagined he could find. A child. Completely helpless and destined to be the world's next victim. Mark knows what he must do. He takes the child and raises him as his own. Fiona Padfield | 2 comments Allegation 17
Topical, daring and controversial, Fiona Padfield’s new novel takes on the UK’s Family Court system, its sinister machinations and notorious “code of silence”, a method that has broken families and hurt generations of children.
Padfield becomes the literary voice for so many women wronged by a skewed court system.
Allegation 17 is a beautifully written, fictionalised drama based on a true story of a woman’s labyrinthine struggle to save her child from an abusive situation. Her greatest enemies are the ones who promise to protect her: the UK’s Byzantine court system and her own kin.

“It is powerful and affecting. This is a near impossible subject to write about but one that should be written about and read.”
Ellah Allfrey/GRANTA

“sensational and deeply moving …”
Braham Murray/R EXCHANGE

“ a devastating story, very painful and moving, and brilliantly written …”
