Do you remember whether this had a fairy tale vibe to it, or was it more realistic and contemporary? It sounds vaguely familiar, but I think best with more different clues. :)
It probably was fairytale-ish, that it was kind of like a happy ever after. But I would have thought more realistic, set in the 1800's maybe. The pictures where very good. At one point it had a cross section of the house.

I am looking for the title and author of a picture book I remember reading years ago. It is about 2 sisters from a wealthy family, they both get married and are given an equal portion of wealth. One sister goes of with her husband and buys a small cottage and lives happily. But the other sister buys a mansion with all her money, then realising it needs upkeep they hire servants, anable to pay the servants they let them live in rooms in the house, eventually the servants take over every room and the only place the couple have is the attic.
I forget how it ends but the pictures where detailed paintings.
If anyone can give me leads I would appreciate it.
