Umar (ulatif) For December's SF Book Club selection, if you have a chance to get a copy of the audio version of Ready Player One (my local library had it), Will Wheaton's narration takes the experience to a whole different level. Will Wheaton, in his own right, is the uber geek (Ernest Cline actually pays homage to him and Cory Doctorow in his novel) so having him as the narrator is just perfect.

I might do the audio as a reread next month, since lots of folks rave about WWs work.

Kara (sterlink) | 67 comments My Decemeber reads are piling up, but I have to admit, the interest in the audio keeps pulling me back on this one.

I finished the audiobook during drives over thanksgiving and really enjoyed it as well! It took my about an hour to get into Wil's narration, it is a bit slower than I normally like, but once I got used to it I think he did a great job.

My only complaint about the audio book was when he would read the scoreboard. It got tedious after the 3rd time reading out all the names.

Peggy (psramsey) | 393 comments Ronald, I have the same problem. The only time audio books work for me is on long car rides. I have WWZ on audio, and have restarted it twice now because I've missed whole sections.

Yet I have no problem listening to podcasts - go figure!

Have you seen the episode of The Big Bang Theory that features Will Wheaton, and a replica of Jon Snow's sword?

Nah. Don't watch that show.

whimsicalmeerkat I have a major knitting project to do by Christmas, so I'll definitely be listening to this one rather than reading.

Me neither. I tried a few episodes - not when it was new, but after it'd been on awhile 'cause several co-workers kept extolling its many merits to me and kept insisting it would be right up my alley. "You're a geek - you'll love it!"

(Sort of like how I would, apparently, love Girl with a Dragon Tattoo because Lisbeth wears a lot of black, too, or something.)

Anyhoo - I tried a few episodes and I found it more painful than amusing, so I was never able to get into it.

But, anyway, I don't want to digress yet another thread... so back on topic!

Banner | 171 comments I'll be doing the audio on this one. BTW really enjoy the show Big Bang.

I've been running across Will Wheaton's as a narrator semi frequently lately. I have to say, I've been impressed with his work.

I don't either, but just happened to catch that episode because I found out it had a replica of Jon Snow's sword.

I've seen Wil on Eureka and Leverage though.

I can call him Wil because he replied to me on reddit once.

We're tight like that.

Have you seen him in The Guild? That was the role that made me stop seeing him as Wesley Crusher.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never watched the guild, though I should have by now what with Felicia Day and all.

Just never had the urge to watch it

Mikebeezlikedat | 3 comments Audio Books rock for me! I'm a professional driver and audio books keep me entertained and mentally stimulated on the long trips. This book kicked ass for me so much that I listened twice already. I can't wait to see if the movie will be released or in production next year.

Dude, you're stuck in a loop or something.

Trapped on a roundabout?

Mikebeezlikedat | 3 comments Lol stupid blackberry.

Andre (telyni) | 82 comments My car's cd player is going to be full of Wheel of Time for the next month or two as I finally get to Towers of Midnight. Otherwise I would totally look into listening to this in audio by Wil Wheaton of all people. Maybe after Wheel of Time is done I'll find it for a reread.
