Vanessa Gao Definitely, the first and last ones were the best-written. Deb wrote: "I think because so many people consider it just a young adult series. I myself love the books although I did think the first and last books were the best. Kristin Stewart isn't my favorite actres..."

Jackie Burke i read the books thought they were ok, the movies are pretty lame. but the main reason i dont love this story is because i am a huge fan of everything vampire and i just hate the idea of sparkling vampires, like that is the only flaw they have. vampires are supposed to burn in the sun, being able to walk in the sun just makes vampires to powerful.

Chelsee I believe people hate on it because it's popular, it's gives them something to pick at and hate on, if the book hadn't become so popular no one would hate on it as much as they do. Yes, Bella's a weak character but people take it to the extreme. It's not Stephanie Meyer's fault her book was hit to young girls (and older moms), but nobody wants to like something everyone likes(or not even bothering caring) so the hate on it.

message 404: by Gordon (new) - rated it 2 stars

Gordon Really beside the point. I hate what Twilight stands for. I have watched the first two movies and found them a massive improvement over the books, mostly because they cut out a lot of nonsense the plot line didn't need. Also because the movie was an improvement it pointed out the incredible gaps in personality in all of the main characters. I'm not picking at the Hunger Games. The books are fine and the movie is solid with good acting from Jennifer Lawrence who has more expressions than pout. Collins isn't Shakespeare, but her characters pay for what they do.

message 405: by Nyxie Kitten (new) - added it

Nyxie Kitten I complete honesty the only reason i read this series is because it was forced upon me, i mean the writing was good ill give the author credit for that, but the basicly made a JOKE out of vampires, and after the first book the story started to drag

message 406: by Nikki (last edited May 08, 2012 01:15AM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Nikki because it was poorly written and how it became popular is beyond most people. The only reason why some people are drawn to the story is because of the idea of an Edward Cullen.

I absolutely agree with you or maybe they dont have anything better to do ;)

message 409: by Lauren (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lauren I didn't mind it so much. I'm on the fence with Twilight. I love the movie. But the book bored me. The baseball scene was the point where I was like 'okie dokie this is a bit silly'.

I think most people hate it because of social pressure. Like most things.

message 410: by Elizabeth (last edited May 08, 2012 03:54AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Elizabeth I think people, initially, didn't HATE twilight (dislike, maybe) before the movie came out. I, for one, read the entire series and honestly, it thought i was good! A tad too mushy, yes. But a great read none the less.

BUT, after the movie came out and the fandom started getting crazy, a lot of people were just kinda pissed off. including me. I HATED the movie. I just... ugh! The movie just kinda ruined the series for me. I remember being all excited for the first movie (Twilight) to come out. But after watching that, i didn't even bother watching the succeeding three movies anymore.

message 411: by Tina J (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tina J I think most people are sick and tired of all the hype about it.
I don't know why everyone lets it get to them so much!
Besides, the hype IS dying down now, don't you think?

And I've heard a lot of people think that 'sparkling vampires' is an insult to your more traditional vampire.
Like Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' for example.

I for one, like the idea. Meyer stayed true to 'the rules' by not letting her vampires come out in SUNlight.
I believe Meyer brought something new to the table when she wrote Twilight.
Because who really wants to read about the same old vampire(s) over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

She brought something new to this generation and she must be doing something right, as she's currently sitting on a mountain of millions due to her success of writing!

Courtney It is SO stupid how some people thing it's "cool" to say they hate something! If you like something, then you like something. That doesn't make it "cool" or "uncool" !!!

message 413: by Jojo! (new) - added it

Jojo! people are just mad because they wil never have the kind of love bella and
edward share

message 414: by Will (new) - rated it 1 star

Will Last Name Probably because it's horrible, and the acting in the movies is horrible as well.

Jericho*Rain Jojo! wrote: "people are just mad because they wil never have the kind of love bella and

no, that's because the movies destroyed the books... :/

message 416: by Jojo! (new) - added it

Jojo! i do not think so i think they just made them better

message 417: by Carly (new) - rated it 1 star

Carly I am okay with not having the "kind" of love Bella and Edward share. Anyone like Edward would get a restraining order from me.

Jericho*Rain Jojo! wrote: "i do not think so i think they just made them better"

you prefer the movies to the books? OMG...

message 419: by Byron (new) - rated it 3 stars

Byron Wells Vanessa wrote: "or is it also because the author made the vampires sparkle under the sun instead of getting burned to ashes? :)"

This is the exact reason my step-daughter gives for not like the books anymore. Granted, that is a bit lame since she also went 6 months trying to look like Alice from the first movie. =)

Courtney The first Twilight movie was so awful that I can't bear to watch it!!!

The others were tolerable.

message 421: by Sara (last edited May 08, 2012 11:43AM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Sara Honestly I think people hate the Twilight series so much because it's so overdone. And everything is vampires, vampires, vampires now. I mean, vampires were beloved horror characters before, yes, but now it just seems that every book that comes out has something to do with vampires (especially YA books) and I work in a library (and have for 8 years) so I know what I'm talking about. It's a craze, it's a fad and it's getting overblown and ridiculously boring. Besides, who the heck wants to read about vampires that glitter in the sunlight?! Not me.

Jericho*Rain Courtney wrote: "The first Twilight movie was so awful that I can't bear to watch it!!!

totally agree w/ you... What the heck was the first movie? an error? was the director drunk the whole movie? LOL

message 423: by Sara (new) - rated it 2 stars

Sara Well, as far as the movies go, I had to stop watching the first one as soon as they got a few seconds into the scene where he glitters...I just gave up on the rest of them. Just didn't care enough to forge ahead. lol

message 424: by Missyb (new) - rated it 3 stars

Missyb the first movie was campy. The actors would pose, growl, then jump at each other. The 2nd & 3rd were much better about not doing that. All three had plenty of boring parts to match all the filler in the books. Eventually I'll see the 4th & 5th.

message 425: by Chetna (new) - rated it 2 stars

Chetna The whole thing of he-oh-so-strong and she oh-so-pretty-dainty-hislife gets repetitive.

message 426: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I gree Chetna and Missyb. It was repetitive and the first movie was a little cheesy.

Patrick The books are poorly written and Bella's character is so weak it's sickening. It sends a completely wrong message to the young girls of America: You can't live without a man and when you find a guy who is suitably mysterious and handsome, completely lose yourself in his will, give up your previous family and hopes and dreams, and live (or die) at his beck and call. I will agree that sometimes it's "cool" to hate on a popular book, but, ultimately, this book is completely and utterly flawed and has no right to even be in the same conversation with Harry Potter or Hunger Games (both of which were superbly written).

message 428: by [deleted user] (new)

I totally disagree Patrick. The books are really good.

message 429: by Patrick (last edited May 09, 2012 10:45AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Patrick Abby wrote: "I totally disagree Patrick. The books are really good."

I completely respect and appreciate your opinion. The books are a "guilty pleasure" of mine. I definitely enjoy the books, but, at the same time, I recognize that there is a difference between a book being enjoyable and a book being well-written.

Plus, like I said, I can't imagine a parent that would be okay with their daughter defining themselves by the guy they're with. Especially to the point of being unable to function without him (I.E. New Moon).

Gabriela No Licha wrote: "First book was not great, but enjoyable. Second book was soooo boring. I just couldn't finish it. I heard the third got much better, but by that point there was just too much hype that I just di..."
I think that you' re right. I think that those book' s are too predictable. In first book it was easy to guess the end. I think that the twilight series shuold' ve end at two books max. Peapole hate them becose they know how it will end.

message 431: by [deleted user] (new)

Abby wrote: "I totally disagree Patrick. The books are really good."

It's not the writing style, it's what the writing contained.

Crystal I think people want to hate it before even giving it a chance because they know it is a vampire romance! I think a lot of people would be surprised if they read them! I was.

Patrick Kailey wrote: "That's simple. Because it is not good. I've read a lot of books in my life and Twilight is among the worst, if not the worst of them all.

Wonderful analysis.

message 434: by Emma (new) - rated it 1 star

Emma Mecham Because of how many FREAKING DETAILS SHE PUTS IN THE BOOK THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 435: by Adam (new) - rated it 3 stars

Adam It was just so terrible. Terrible terrible terrible. The final book was pandering, uninspired wish fulfillment. Her characters were flat, two dimensional cardboard cut outs moving about a poorly designed set.

message 436: by Shelby (new) - rated it 4 stars

Shelby The reasons why I don't like this book much is:
1. There is WAY too much romance!
2. A human girl falls in love with a vampire with the ability to read minds? That's just stupid.
3. There's that love triangle where Bella's in love with Jacob and Edward and she can't choose who she'd rather be with. I'd pick Jacob! lol.
But to be fair, I didn't actually hate this book. It wasn't too bad.

message 437: by [deleted user] (new)

Personally, I gthink it is because of what a weak female lead Bella is. It shows that if guys are bossy in a relationship, everything will work out perfectly. And, it also tells girls that the most important thing in life is to have a boyfriend, and I dont think that is the right message to be portraying to teens and children.

message 438: by Linda (new) - rated it 1 star

Linda Because it was a poorly written book. And the characters were boring.

Meleenah I think people don't like it(This is coming from a middle schooler surrounded by all the Twilight hate) today girls are absolutely obsessed with guys and a lot of guys don't like romance or anything like that. So in order to impress them they told everyone they didn't like it which just spread because in truth people are afraid to be themselves. Stephenie Meyer is a great author the only reason people started hating the books too is because of the movie. I honestly enjoyed reading them. Those who weren't influenced or didn't see the movie before the book and actually don't like the story are people I respect. Everyone else just dosen't know how to be there own person.

Jasmine i actually liked the books when i was younger and they were okay when i grew out of it...i didnt hate the series until i read midnight sun and saw how condescending edward was, it put the books in a whole new light.

Stanton First off, I'm a fan of any book that gets young people to read. That said, with hype of this magnitude around a series, it had better be good: well-developed characters, artistic description, compelling plot, etc. Sorry, but Twilight has none of the above. People don't resent J.K. Rowling because she obviously has such a clear vision of the world she created, and artful control over the themes of the HP books. I just didn't get that out of Meyer.

message 442: by P. (new) - rated it 2 stars

P. Kirby Um...because unless they've been sprayed with glue and rolled in glitter, vampires shouldn't sparkle.
;)

message 443: by Menna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Menna Abdel-bassir actually, I don`t hate it at all , but people might get bored of reading it because it has alot of parts and and all depends on each other and if they don`t understand it they can`t complete the whole story ....... ,also, Bella`s feeling in some parts was cold not share most of her feeling with Edward , she just share it when they together ....... but Edward was there in every part of the story

message 444: by Jaime (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaime Brooks People hate it because they turned two of the main characters into "teams"s. That made it cheesy in my eyes. I read the book before I even knew about the movie, and loved it and couldn't put them down. Good books, a bit ruined by the movies....same with the vampire diaries and secret circle. those came out in the 90's and the people who made the series ruined them.

Katherine Megan (I heart FINNICK) wrote: "Never read them...i have the answer!!!
VAMPIRES AND WEREWOLVES SOUND STUPID!!!!"

Yeah they should have brought in the tributes...katniss could have taken all of the sparkly vampires and the overly large dogs:)

message 446: by [deleted user] (new)

Well I would think because, too many people fell head over heels for it. Also not everyone is into the Vampire/Werewolf/Human thing. I personally ♥ Twilight, not so much the movies but the books. With this being said I have nothing against the movies, since I do own all of them :D

★ Jess omg dies laughing at the first comment!
Its poorly written, poorly plotted and teaches wrong, weird morals.
Thats why.

Brandy its because of the movies. the books are great but the movies are bad and people who havent read the books and only watched the movies are basing their opinion on only the movies
