Olivia Mainville I heard she dreamt the story of "Twilight" and that's how it was created? Uh, I don't think everything you dream should become a book. Especially with sparkly, mind-reading vampires and a weak female protagonist who can't seem to talk about anything else but the two men who love her. Jeez, girl, grow a personality or something. Maybe then you won't become a victim in obviously abusive relationships (I don't think relationships with either vampires or werewolves could be labelled "safe).

B.L. Jones People may have seen my review(/better written version) of each book above, now i have finished the last one here it is.

Breaking Dawn-Right then, so emo child is now about to marry Mr.Feck all personality (by this point i should mention that i only finished this series because i hate not to finish a series of books, im a true book lover that way, and also because i had a tiny bit of hope that the last book MIGHT just not be completely shit, like maybe emo child would die, what can i say im a, cue strange american accent, BELIEVER!). But i digress, so the wedding of the century (apparently), hey, what can i say thier town is pretty small, shit just doesnt happen that often i suppose, a better reaction probably would have happened if Mr.Feck all personality had eaten emo child (even i would have clapped, and i hate exercise of all kinds). After the wedding emo child is dancing with wolf boy and he gets fucked OFF by the idea of emo child getting dirty with Mr.Feck all personality (i had to agree THE IMAGES NNNNOOOOO!!!). I still dont get them fighting over emo child by this point, i mean if anything the only thing they should be fighting about is which one of them gets to eat her, then again they'd probably just get indigestion from her rubbish personality and sick her back up. Emo child leaves with Mr.Feck all personality on their honeymoon of WUV, oh the WUV it hurts, no really the WUV made my head hurt like feck. Then they have sexy times, nasty nsty NASTY. Also HOW? Mr. Feck all personality has epic skill apparenty of getting it up without any blood running through him, being dead and all kind of puts an end to all sexy times, but oh no, that would be too LOGICAL (dont get me wrong i like fantasy, as long as its explained in some way, even a mentalastic way). Of course now emo child is...wait for it...no really wait for it..............WAIT FOR IT!.......PREGNANT!, because this book wasnt fucked up enough obviously. Now baby Damien (i.e. the antichrist from the movie the Omen) is killing emo child YAY, baby Damien is now my favourite character. The short and short of it is that both Mr.Feck all personality and wolf boy are PISSED about baby Damien, what a mother fucking suprise. Emo child gives birth to Baby Damien....and...SHE DIES....YAY YAY YAY YAY WOOOOOOP WOOOOP...but then Mr.Feck all personality ruins everything by turning her into a sparkly person. Emo child wakes up and is now officially in sparkly gang. She finds out that wolf boy fancies baby Damien, (who is a girl by the way i know, but who the feck cares by this point, it could have came out a dragon and the book still wouldnt have been any good, and i really like dragons), emo child is FUCKED OFF by this and goes after him, but then they become fwends again when he tells her about how he WUVs baby Damien (ok, now if that was my child, id be ready to tell wolf boy to get back on his bike and PISS OFF, but no apparently in addition to abusive relationships, teen marriage, teen pregnancy and SPARKLES! (still cant get over that), fancying children is now encouraged and accepted, HURRAAAYYYY FOR SHITTY FUTURES,CHOICES AND MORALS, no wonder so many teens make bad choices, when they end up reading this rubbish. So anyway now everyone's playing happy families, (blah blah blah blah blah x1093035046834690749864979 and 4). Then the master sparkly people got pissy about baby sparkles, and they come to kill it (and yes 'it' is the appropriate choice for ANYTHING living that sparkles). Team wolf pack and the sparkles gang join together again to protect baby sparkles, i.e. wolf boys WUV,as well as other randomer sparkly people. In the end there is NO fight scene (ok, now im pissed), how is it possible that all those creatures who are MEANT to be badass gather but all they end up doing is TOUCHING THE BABY! WHAT!, baby sparkles has a power that can show memories or some shit like that, i wasnt really paying attention i was still pissed about lack of fight scene, oh and the shit writing, always the shit writing. In the end emo child and Mr.Feck all personality have sexy times and most likely, because of baby sparkles rapid growth, she and wolf boy will be marrie and having their own fraked up sparkly puppies within a few months. Ok well now we are drawing to a close, im glad we could all share this special moment in our lives, appreciating cough taking the piss out of cough this shmagical series, i hope you all enjoyed it, i know i very much didnt, just remembering that series has made my mentaltastic mind think of tiny elves hitting my brain with wooden spoons, long story for why by the way, i WUV you all. ;) xxx

message 1354: by Aila (new) - rated it 2 stars

Aila Mack I read all the books and watched all the movies. I enjoyed it a little but you cannot ignore the fact that it's a mushy love story. No one falls for a guy like that. Bella puts her life in jeopardy because she wants to be with Edward. She makes women all over the world look weak. And everyone around her treats her like a little princess. Her mum, dad, edward, jacob, alice and the other cullens except for Rosalie (Thank goodness). She's a spoiled brat and she takes advantage of that. And that is why people hate the twilight series.

Destiny Lund Because it's fun for a group of people to hate on something popular, it's "cool" to hate some things. Also, some people never actually read the books or the reasonings behind some of Stephenie's ways, so they just assumed things & blew them out of proportion.

Destiny Lund Liz, it's not about being "glorified", it's about being REAL. So many humans would realistically attempt suicide because of something traumatic or do crazy things when who they truly loved is gone. Bella can't be a pristine role model 24/7. It's not a frickin Disney character, she's a human being going through something life-changing, & everyone reacts to everything differently. Her soulmate was just instantly torn away & then even his memories basically erased, I think that would drive most people insane, as if he were a figment of your imagination?

I just don't like the sparkles, i think it ruins the image of vampires as badasses, and im sorry but that pisses me off. Also Bella is weak as hell, a lot of people wouldn't react the way she did, nobody wants to read about as weak whiny girl in a supernatural book, or at least i don't. My other problem is there are books that are SO much better than the Twilight series, it's just sad. xxx I also think it glorafies suicide aswell, NO bloke is worth that, even "soulmates"...bleegh.

I don't like Twilight, but that doesn't mean I have a narrow imagination. And I'm certainly not jealous of what Edward and Bella have, I'd rather not have a creepy boyfriend/husband that would watch me sleep and refer to me as his personal brand of heroin.

message 1365: by Jordan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jordan I just think people don't like it because people like traditional vampires. I don't, actually I like it better when authors are creative and create something new, like Stephanie Meyer did. Either that or it's just not their kind of book.

message 1366: by Tessa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tessa I thought that even in the book, Bella was a weak character and some of the things she said made her sound dumb. And i was SO bored when she was depressed when Edward left and wouldn't do aaaanything for like 1/3 of the book. Life doesn't end when your "true love" in HIGH SCHOOL leaves. I just prefer strong female characters. Also, I read book one in 6th grade because it was appropriate for that age group but then book 4!? The audience age group jumped forward by 4 years!!

message 1367: by Yasaman (last edited Dec 29, 2012 11:10AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Yasaman Noori Well, Twilight series is just another UB-PNR out there like many others. If we put aside all the hype that media and the fan have created, it can be seen as yet another decent series and quite a fun read. And I think that's exactly why it has gained many haters. Anything that becomes overrated and gets too much attention, will also get too much criticism and hate. That's exactly what fame does to one.
And about the films, they just suck. I quite liked the first film, actually after watching it I went looking for the books and I enjoyed them, but as one by one the sequels came out I felt sicker and sicker! I think the movies had a major effect on people's opinion. When they think of Bella and Edward the first thing that comes to their mind is Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and not 2 fictional characters out of a series, and with the kind of acting they presented us with (most specially Kristen Stewart) I don't blame many to feel less than happy with the whole thing.

message 1368: by Siobhan (new) - rated it 2 stars

Siobhan I just felt like Bella was full of hypocrisy. I can't stand that. And as I said before in another post, I was in remission for a blood problem when I read these books, everything the doctors had told me, everything I experienced, was the antithesis of these books. I can acknowledge where Meyer has done some good, but ultimately the above are why I dislike it.

I've read many, many books and I think Twilight is amazing.

Everyone has their opinions on which books are amazing or terrible. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean that anyone who does is a less experienced reader than you. In fact, assuming that is a bit rude and arrogant.

message 1372: by Meg (new) - rated it 4 stars

Meg I personally liked all the books. I read them all in a week when I was sick. I do though, understand why people might hate the book. I'm talking about the people that have read it. They hate it because of the main character, Bella. We all want to read books about strong independent characters who find themselfs and develop. Well, Bella doesn't become that until the last book when she is trying to protect her daughter. She isn't someone you would want to be and she doesn't reach out to her readers as a character.

message 1376: by Kirstyn (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kirstyn For many it's because hating Twilight is fashionable. Others hate it because they think Bella is a dull character and a bad example for young women because of her dependence on Edward.Others dislike it because it isn't extremely well written.

message 1377: by Marta (new) - rated it 4 stars

Marta I read all the twilight books in fifth grade and I LOVED them! Then I got older and realized just how unrealistic the books were. There wasn't even much of a plot to be honest. I saw breaking dawn part 2 though and I gotta admit, it was a GREAT movie!!!

message 1378: by Darci (new) - rated it 1 star

Darci Other than the poor writing, inconsistent pacing, and lack of plot, the thing I dislike most about Twilight is the characters.

Bella wants to be special, but rather than cultivating talents or even a personality, latches on to a guy to shape her identity around. She has no ambitions, no desires, not for college or a career - she's not even interested in marriage except as a means to her desired end - all she wants is to be young and pretty forever. She's utterly selfish. She pushes and badgers him, tries to make him jealous, and finally gets her way. Of course, once she's changed she becomes the most special newborn vampire ever. Ick.

Edward has manged to avoid maturing emotionally despite ninety years of immortality. He's controlling, manipulative, and petulant. The perfect boyfriend? Not in my world.

Jacob starts off fine, even likable. It's a shame Meyer felt the need to destroy his character in order to make Edward look better.

Even sainted Carlisle is actually quite horrible. He may save people's lives, but he also selfishly doomed Esme to suffer at his side for eternity, finding what little solace she can in the brood of immortal teenagers he gifts to her.

I said the plot was lacking, but worse than that is the fact that what plot exists is nonsensical. Spending your immortal life attending high school, playing physics-defying baseball, and trying not to sparkle - this is supposed to be a compelling vampire story? Then there's the Volturi, who are supposed to be villains, but are laughably far from threatening.

I really think Meyer liked Romeo and Juliet, except the part where they died at the end, and failed to understand that it's not the greatest love story ever told, but a tale of two idiots.

message 1379: by Emma (new)

Emma It's a mix of things, really. A lot of people, as others have said, only hate them because it's the "cool" thing to do. Like the Hunger Games! When books get really popular, they're always going to have haters. And I guess a lot of people don't see the whole teen-paranormal-romance genre very good literature. I have only read the first book, and I enjoyed it very much, but I could tell that it wasn't that well written.

Um, no, not even close. If we loved it, but hated that we did, we wouldn't cite so many problems with it. I'm sure that there are people who did react that way, but most of the people who didn't like it - including myself - did so for legitimate reasons. message 1384: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 29, 2012 09:16PM) (new)

Is there a reason why the book is so notorious in the literary community? Aside my opinion, popular culture portrays this book as absolute crap, so it should be no mystery why people dislike this book.

message 1385: by Nyaore (last edited Dec 29, 2012 09:55PM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Nyaore It was the poor writing, unfortunate implications (imprinting being the biggest one - especially in the case of Claire and Renessme, where it was further tainted by child grooming tones), the fact that I could have cut the books in half if I just took out all of Bella's gushing, as well as the fact that I hated almost all the characters with the exception of those Meyer WANTED me to hate. I found Leah, Charlie, and even some of the Volturi to be much more compelling than her lust induced duo.

Also, no amount of puppy love is too much. I'm a romance junkie, but Bella and Edward felt like they were in lust far more than a deep committed relationship. There was no friendship, very little shared hobbies, and an appalling lack of respect or trust. (Edward removing the car engine, for starters, and Bella freaking out every time a woman she deemed beautiful stood within ten feet of Edward.)

message 1386: by [deleted user] (new)

Poor writing. Not at all imaginative or original. Rather dull. Too predictable. Lame/weak/creepy characters. Highly unrealistic in the romance department.

Most of the people who rant about how terrible Twilight is honestly would toss it aside and not give a darn had it not become so popular. If it were little known, the would-be haters would simply go "meh", label it a sucky novel, and forget about it...the "hate" stems from resentment over its undeserved praise and popularity.

It's not an opinion to say that people who liked this book have not read others. It's an insulting assumption and it's a false one as well. Look at people's book lists if you don't want to take another person's word on it.

If you don't like a book, learn how to deal with that fact. Disliking a book doesn't make you ignorant and rude, but deciding that other people's opinions are worthless because they don't match yours is arrogant. Assuming that anyone who disagrees with your assessment isn't well read is lazy thinking, particularly when you have evidence right in front of you that contradicts that.

You are attacking someone for liking a book, no one is attacking you for disliking it. There isn't an equivalence there, as much as you say there is.

Since no one obviously clued you in on how to behave, it is acceptable in conversation to say your opinion, however, when you insult and assume things about the other person, you should be prepared to be thought of as rude and ignorant, because you're acting like it. It doesn't have anything to do with you having an opinion on a book.

Ashley I saw the movie first, i wasn't impressed and was a little confused. Bella was swooning over Edward the whole time for what i saw as no reason at all. And Edward was moody and withdrawn most of the time. The book made more sense but the Edward & Bella relationship was unrealistic. They never had any real world problems. There's just no way two people could just be perfect together ALL the time. Bella practically worshiped him and would no stop saying how perfect he was every time she saw him, you can only take so much about perfect skin and white teeth. Personally I don't hate the story, but I can see why other people do. I think most of the hate comes from the fact some people don't know what their talking about because they haven't seen it or read the book. Or just want to fit in because everyone else seems to hate it.

This book (and movie(s)) had all of these elements.
I think that's why people hated it so much.

I mean hell, I used to be such a huge fan of this series and even I ended up hating it towards the end. I had to drag myself to the last movie and when I left the theatre I was secretly relived that I would never have to watch the movie again, or talk about it again, or compare the books to the movies again, or just really have anything to do with this book series ever again.

The official interviews promoting the film they'll be all nice and professional, but now that it is finished, they've been making fun of it. RP has been the ring leader out of the two. Hate may be a strong word but they definitely like to completely mock it!!
