Cameron (cam671) | 7 comments I found this book in the library when I was in 6th grade, so I'm assuming it's young adult.

The main character is some kind of adolescent subterranean troll - his people all live under a mountain and are a mining/blacksmithing race. Kind of like the dwarves in many fantasy novels, but these people were definitely not dwarves.

I recall he comes above ground at one point and is apprehensive about it. I don't remember if he was going above ground out of curiosity, or by accident, or because he lost something or what. Might be a sort of troll-coming-of-age story...

Mir | 802 comments Could it be Troll Fell by Katherine Langrish? That is from the POV of a human boy but otherwise kind of like you are describing. Or maybe something by Nancy Farmer?

Michelle Mulford | 112 comments Maybe Goblin Hero or one of the others in that series?

Cameron (cam671) | 7 comments Still looking - thanks for the suggestions. I should have included that the publishing date would have been prior to 1985!

Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer?

message 6: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cam671) | 7 comments No, that's a more recent book and this one would have been around in the 80s :-(

Jessica (jessdaygeorge) | 191 comments Children of the Seventh Prophecy by author:Amy Kateman Rubin|2055778]?

I think it was republished as Children of the Seven or something. But the trolls are able to take the form of humans, and the troll boy ends up getting help from a boy he was "mirroring" essentially?

message 8: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cam671) | 7 comments I think that's it Jessica - will have to get it on inter-library loan to confirm but it looks pretty promising; thanks!

HeavyReader | 450 comments Cameron, I see you have marked this one "solved." Are you sure enough this is the right book to keep this in the solved folder? Do you want me to add the book to the group's bookshelf?

If this book turns out to not be what you are looking for, we can always move the folder back to the the unsolved folder and remove the book from the bookshelf.

Cameron (cam671) | 7 comments The interlibrary loan around here usually takes a month or more, so that's why I thought I should move it out of the unsolved "queue" - I'll move it back if it turns out to not be the correct book.

You can move it to PROBABLY SOLVED if you'd like. Normally, we shelved solved books as we see them. So, if it's the book, please post again so the mods know to shelve the book, or you can shelve the book on its proper shelves and add {s} to the end of the topic title.

Thanks.

Children of the Seventh Prophecy is the possible book.

Cameron, can we call this Solved now?

message 15: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cam671) | 7 comments Yes, I've moved it - thanks.
