My new novel "The Dude Who Did Dictionaries" is now available on Amazon via Kindle Direct as a KDP Selection - www.amazon.com/dp/B00M0DUI8Y
Frank Flutie is a lexicographer who has waged war on the "perils of adultolescence" by leaving a high-paying job as a copywriter for an advertising company called The Banker and taking a low-paying job in a bookstore instead, ostensibly so he can write the first ever all sexual dictionary.
The "war" (and his dictionary), however, aren't going particularly well and, under the stress of his "self-imposed exile" from affluence, Frank has become petty and fatalistic -- "a shit hoarder whose dictionary would be better utilized as a flyswatter, a doorstop, or a paperweight".
Always broke, but too proud to accept charity, he rarely sees his few friends and cannot get the virginal Marlene in bed because (or so he believes), "If you got no dough, no woman will love you."
On the mantle in Frank's shabby apartment is a sickly but unkillable pet sea lamprey -- a jawless fish he abhors as the banner of the sort of "clockwork universe" he is fleeing from in his downward spiral.
In the course of his misadventures, we become grindingly aware that his radical solution to the problem of the money-world is no solution at all -- that in his desperate reaction against a monstrous system, he has become something of a monster himself.
"The Dude Who Did Dictionaries" is a behemoth valentine to Boston and a gritty, sprawling, depiction of today's recession-inflicted state of affairs.

Place: Portland Oregon USA
Writer, just published
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...
I was born in California. I grew up in Hawaii. I went to junior high near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I went to high-school in southern Oregon, college in Salem Oregon, and am now living with my wife and five year old son in Portland.
I lived in a redwood house on a volcanic island, and played on a beach of my birth stone. My mother was a belly dancer. I can Cossack dance. I taught myself after I came back from Russia.
I've studied Hawaiian, Latin, French, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese in the classroom, in that order. Now I can't manage much in any of them.
I drowned in the Hilo Bay after being repeatedly thrown in by drunk relatives when I was my son's age. I still remember the moment when I gave up and breathed in the tea colored water. My lungs surrendered, but my heart never stopped. I forgave the foolish swimming lesson the moment a fear sobered relative resuscitated me.
I facilitated a consensus meeting in the middle of a downtown Portland street for several hours with several hundred people. We decided on one thing, to stay in the street indefinitely. Then, almost everyone left and the next morning the police opened it for traffic.
A police man broke my arm and I said, "Motherfucker, I'll kick your ass with one arm."
I organized a rave in my loft when my roommate was out of town. He almost didn't find out. My wife was my student in Japan.
She said, "I love you." Too late we realized she confused "love" and "like". I was considered both the best and worst English teacher.
I was almost an Eagle Scout, but I got burnt out.
I never played D&D until college.
I play Eve Online and exclusively PVP.
I buy too many transformer toys and pretend it's only because I love my son.
I got cauliflower ear from wrestling in high-school and broke a finger doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in college. I broke my hand on my friend's head after he asked me to punch him. We kept sparring.
I burned my face while fire dancing. I am a fire dragon.

My name is Douglas Emerson. I’m a consultant and coach specializing in project management and goal-setting. Over the years, I’ve helped people move from vague ambitions to clear, structured results.
My debut book, Start at the Finish: The Power of Reverse Planning, presents a simple but powerful system for achieving clarity, confidence, and consistent progress by planning backwards from your desired outcome.
I’d be happy to connect with fellow readers and authors here. If anyone is interested, I can share a free copy of the eBook in exchange for an honest review on Goodreads or Amazon.
Looking forward to learning from this community and joining the conversation!

From Portland, OR area.
I'm mainly a writer because reading is so painfully slow, that I don't have time to do both.
Currently, I'm reading Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy. Well, I keep a copy in the car, and when we do errands, my fiance reads it out loud to me. She's a faster reader, even at a spoken pace, but we've been reading it for several months. That thing is LONG!
Extra fact: I own a Batman costume.
