Joseph | 1651 comments I just finished (and enjoyed) The Serpent Tower by William King and have moved on to the third in the series, The Queen's Assassin.

message 102: by James (new)

James Shoop (mrtumnas) Haha, I didn't know any of that...still, I'm going to keep reading the book. We can't all have perfect moral values, I guess. :D

Bill (kernos) | 324 comments I'm reading Initiate's Trial, the newest installment in The Wars of Light and Shadow. Good literature this.

Next I wanted to read Delany's forthcoming book Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders which was supposed to be released today, but has been delayed. It's said to be a cross between SF and (gay) porn.

Instead I think I'll read its predecessor Dark Reflections and his novella Phallos which are related and The Path to the Nest of Spiders by Italo Calvino from which title Delany modified.
Update Amazon just told me it shipped yesterday. Still I want to read these books together.

Not as delayed as the sequel to Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand. I need to read more Delany at some point. Have you read any of the Neveryon books? I think they're as close as he's ever come to fantasy. I tried to read them many years ago but I think I was probably too young.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Nicki wrote: "That's the first time I've ever been called Michael! ;)..."

I don't know why I thought you were Michael. How odd. You don't remind me of him at all.

Sorry, Nicki. Old timers, I guess.

Jeni | 13 comments I started reading Johannes Cabal the Necromancer during my lunch break today, so I only got through a couple of chapters, but I'm finding it immensly entertaining. ( My colleagues are finding my constant giggling quite entertaining too, heehee )

Althea Ann Traci wrote: "Lol. Read one of Hubbard's pulp books and was unimpressed. "

Same here. I knew who the guy was, but was kind of curious. Most of his books are weighty tomes, but I came across a DAW paperback of his 'Ole Doc Methuselah,' a very short collection of pulp tales about a Bold Space Adventurer... so curiosity led me to pick it up. It wasn't very good; I'm glad I didn't waste time on a longer book...

message 108: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (rocktopusjones) Just finished The Erevis Cale Trilogy and it was awesome. Definitely the best example of D&D fiction I've read.

I have not. I had a set ordered a couple of years ago, but the dealer couldn't find them and I forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

I LOVED that book. Totally forgot about it until just now, I will have to re-read it sometime. Johannes is a great character.

message 111: by Traci (new)

Traci Johannes Cabal the Detective the second one was pretty good too. Wonder if a third is coming.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I've been listening to The Lord of the Rings and am halfway through The Return of the King, so almost finished. It's the first time I've read it, although I saw the first two movies, so it's pretty much as I expected. Tolkien's writing has a charm that I didn't expect, though.

I've read a couple of Barbara Hambly's Benjamin January series, started The Silicon Mage, and also Field of Dishonor, #4 in the Honor Harrington series. If it weren't for the fact that Baen offered the series free in promotion of Weber's new book, I wouldn't be reading any more of them as I was so disgusted by #3.

message 114: by Daisy (new)

Daisy Griffin (daisygriffin) I just finished reading Frey and it's sequel The Frey Saga Book II: Pieces of Eight. I think now I'll go back to Eldestwhich I had started, but got interrupted...started reading Frey in the interim and couldn't put it down until I finished.

I'm not looking forward to reading Honor 4 either!

Well, it's a little better, I'm happy to say.

I'm going to read Tigana and City of Bones first. Then I guess I'll give it a chance - at least it's free.

message 119: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Good plan.

message 120: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished The Queen's Assassin and moved on to Shadowblood, the most recent of William King's Terrarch books.

message 121: by Jeni (new)

Jeni | 13 comments Finished the Johannes Cabal book yesterday - a lot quicker than I'd anticipated, I really enjoyed it. Today I will be starting The Lies of Locke Lamora. A lot of people seem to love this one, so I'm hoping I will too. :)

message 122: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) I recently finished:
- A Great and Terrible Beauty
- The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted: And Other Small Acts of Liberation

I am currently bouncing between the following reads as my mood shifts from day-to-day or week-to-week:
- The Annotated Peter Pan (The Centennial Edition)
- Nightmares and Dreamscapes
- Horns
- Sweep, Volume 1

I'm also listening to The Black Tattoo whenever I'm in my car.

message 123: by James (new)

James West (jawest) I am re-reading The Further Conan Chronicles by Robert Jordan. It is just so much fun!

I'm reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children right now. I follow mental_floss articles and this novel is written by one of their staff writers, so that piqued my interest. Pretty interesting so far - the pictures that accompany the story are a little creepy, though.

I did not know that. I found out about Mental Floss though Friends about little close to ten years ago.
