Is this book worth all the hype? Why or why not?

I liked it, the first two may not be deserving of 4 stars but as the series progressed(4th book), it became a great.
Thanks... I read the first one and I was like... blah. But I am going to give it a chance and keep reading into the series.

From then on i became very excited with the series. Hope you like the series.♥

Thanks, I am going to. I just didn't get excited about the first one at all but so many other people gave it five stars I was like, did I miss something?

Nope you did not. I overestimated the rating too and found it much below my average. So many ppl rely on ratings. If rate crosses 4 stars they tend to think it will be really worth it, but in reality it wont be. Some novels which get 3 stars are ignored however fantastic they are. Nevertheless book4,5,6 deserves 4 stars
I always thought that the series could have crossed the thershold and gone into the completely 'epic story' but it didn't really. It stayed grounded within the characters which I've actually realized that I like.It is very much a character driven series which is always good (when the characters are good of course). I'm hoping the Bloodlines series goes a bit more large scale. There is alot of travelling around in the VA series but you don't get the 'hugeness' (is that a word?) feeling from it.
You don't get the heavy through-series build-up which is concluded by a massive earthquake final like HP and LOTR but you do get a great adventure with great characters that I really found myself wanting to read more about.
I'm looking forward to reading The Golden Lily.
Overall, I give the whole VA series a solid 4 stars. That's characters, story, world building, development, flow...everything. =)
The story starts extremely slowly - tbh the first book was an effort to drag throughAfter that, though it does pick up. There are moments of annoyance (Rose does not show the greatest judgment at times) and the series isn't one of my favourites, but after the first couple of books it's better.

I could not agree with you more.
The first book sort of turned me off, but i hate starting something, and not finishing it.
The second book was SOOOOOO much better !
Good series, but i am a Night Huntress fan myself. I am on the 3rd. :)
My co-worker suggested this series to me after I finished the House of Night series (awesome by the way!!!) But I found myself not very interested. The first book just seemed kind of drab, like it had potential but just didnt have that pazaz that kept you reading into the wee hours of the morning. The characters are eh, the only ones I really like are Rose, Mason, Mia and Adrian. Lissa just rubs me the wrong way. Something about her seems very very off, and I hate that Rose by way of life HAS to put her first. I wish Rose could just run off and live her own kick ass life! Ok so I take it back not ALL characters are "eh", Rose is fastly becoming my hero; super witty, bitchy, fun, loyal, smart, and can kick your ass! What more could you possibly want from a friend?! I think secretly I wish I had my own Rose in life, or that I was a Rose in life!
I am on book 3 at this moment and the series has deffinitly picked up, still a little slow going, but the plot is getting thicker :) Hopefully the next few books will make up for the slowness of the first few in this series :)
i've just ordered it... a friend of mine suggested it and i hope it'll be good

Bloodlines is the spin-off series about Sydney, Adrian, Jill and Eddie. The first book is already out. The Golden Lily comes out next year.
