There isn't another book that comes close to The Bronze Horseman. If you're not into Outlander, which was my first thought, I don't know what to recommend. Are you looking for World War 2? Romance? Russian setting? If you like the idea of time travel, Connie Willis would be one thought.

I've been looking for a book to cure my almost-5-years hangover of TBH. I'm sorry, but there's none. This is the ugly truth. :)
just finished the series and I want to cry at the thought that it's over! . Best books I ever read
Im still in a post Bronze Horseman hangover :-( Was really hoping there would be a whole host of suggestions for similar books, but guess everyone just loves TBH to much.
I will check out Miss Mellys 'Russia shelf ' as it is the Russian history I find very interesting - from when I was a kid and i read my mums copy of Danielle Steeles Zoya!

If you loved the setting and were enthralled reading how people managed to live and find beauty during the Siege of Leningrad, you might try City of Thieves. It's not a romance, but more of a buddy-love story (not sexual) about the friendship that develops between two very different young men who are forced to go on a journey to find a dozen eggs for their commanding officer. It's funny, sad, horrifying and uplifting all at the same time. Very much like how the Bronze Horseman made me feel, but without the romantic romance. Several people in my book club recommended it and I totally loved it.
Read the Penny Vincenzi trilogy.
1. No Angel
2. Something Dangerous
3. Into Temptation
This is a fabulous series. I am a huge fan of TBH and Outlander. This series is a great read also. Not such a fan of Kate Furnivall.

I read Tully (aka The Girl in Times Square) and loved it. There were so many similarities between the it and TBH, that I can't help but wonder Tully was used as a rough draft for TBH- just set in a different time period with different obstacles keeping the two lovers apart. If you are looking for a cure for a TBH hangover, and don't mind a contemporary-romance, I highly recommend Tully. Spencer and Lily are a modern day Alexander and Tatiana.
It's hard to beat TBH but The Soldier's Wife by Margaret Leroy was very good and is in the same historical fiction/romance category. Well-written and compelling characters.
I agree with all these suggestions - Jennifer Donnelly, Outlander series, Pillars and World without End, and A Kingdom of Dreams all have a similar feel. I'll add the new suggestions to my list, because I am loving TBH series!
I loved The Bronze Horseman, and I found that book as I was trying to find another book similar to Petersburg by Emily Hanlon. Petersburg was published in the late 80s so you would have to buy a secondhand copy from Amazon. But it is completely worth it. I can not recommend this book highly enough for fans of The Bronze Horseman. It is set in St Petersburg before the 1905 revolution and it has everything you would want. Romance, alpha males, revolution, betrayals, politics, great research, plot twists - the lot. Hmmm I may have to go and retread it again!

Try Florencia Bonelli's "Year of Fire" trilogy.
She's a huge fan of Paullina.
1 - Obsession
2 - Passion
3 - Possession (will be released in english soon)
Her books are awesome. She's on my top with Paullina and Diana Gabaldon.

Oh I live in hope of someone coming along to even challenge Alexander for my heart, even Christian Grey with his helicopters and boats can whistle. The bronze Horseman series is easily the best story I've ever read. I will have to re-read many more times in the years ahead.
Corelli's Mandolin (my favorite book until this one), The Invisible Bridge, & Ken Follet's Eye of the Needle.

If you are looking for a novel similar to the " self-imposed forbidden-lovers" trope in that of The Bronze Horseman and you like the time period it is set in, I would suggest From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon. It's not set in Russia (the setting is Italy), but it does take place during World War II. Also, it's just simply beautiful and haunting--it's worth a read!
As for one set in Russia, I would suggest Blood Red, White Snow by Marcus Sedgwick. It takes place during the Russian Revolution and it is based off true events. But it reads like a fairytale and it's full of metaphors. It's not for everyone, but it's worth mentioning.
I hope one of these will work for you!

My recommendations:
- Midnight Hunter Cold War. Evony is a factory girl trying to escape from eastern Germany, but she is captured by an officer. I felt TBH vibes reading this book. I recommend.
- El cuarto Arcano For those who read in Spanish. The author is a Paullina Simons fan.
- The Last Innocent Hour I didn't read this book, but the story also takes place during the WWII. I think the romance is based on real people.
- Kurt Seyt & Shura I haven't read this one either, but it looks similar to TBH (historical romance, the hero is a soldier, revolution in russia, war, character called Shura..)

The Bronze Horseman is simply the best book I've read in a LONG time. Funny I Googled this very same question and found this page. I am saving all suggestions, but am not hopeful of finding something equivalent : (
I started with the Outlander series. Needed something similar while waiting for book 9 so I found the Into the Wilderness series which is 6 books and I highly recommend. Then I needed something for that hangover and found The Bronze Horseman. I’m almost done with the first book and have ordered the other two. I don’t know what I’ll do when I finish those. Outlander is such a huge hit but nothing compares to the Bronze Horseman. I’m going to cry when I finish the series
I've read a few of the suggestions on this thread but of course nothing really comes close to TBH. I do want to recommend a long amazing book written (but not set in) in the 1940s that is just as amazing as TBH in my opinion: it's called Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor. I'm not comparing it to TBH but I am comparing how much I loved it to how much I loved TBH. It's a great adventure with excellent writing. Quite a romance too but it's not a series and the ending is open to interpretation, though the clues to the conclusion are hidden in the early parts of the story. It's set in the Restoration Period of England in the 1660s. If you like Gone With The Wind, you will like this.
An oldie but The Thornbirds and also The Touch (newer) both by Colleen McCullough have a similar feel to me.

Have you tried Judith McNaught's A Kingdom of Dreams? I found Jennifer to have similar characteristics to Tatiana. She was really strong, sweet, and smart, and Royce was deliciously dark and tender and sacrificing just like Alexander.
I loved this book and i still have not found one like it. Best books i have ever read.
I know it may seem totally random but when I read 'The Russian Concubine' by Kate Furnivall I found similarities to 'The Bronze Horseman'. A different time period and location but there was something about the plight of the characters and their relationships that kept reminding me of 'The Bronze Horseman' (which I think is one of the best books I've ever read and have never found anything to directly compare to it).
I don't know, you might want to give Kate Furnivall a shot.

Karen Marie Moning's Fever series gave me the same obsessive feel as the Bronze Horseman series- though whole different genre. I think it's a paranormal romance. 5 books starting with darkfever. If you can get past the first one (kinda cheesy) they are incredible. Tons of sexual tension between the 2 main characters. Barrons is up there in my top 3 men with Jamie and Alexander.

I feel the same way! I just finished reading The Russian Concubine and The Red Scarf by Kate Furnivall. They are based in a different time period but have a story of romance with the hitorical elements of Russia and Europe. But they are nowhere near the level of The Bronze Horseman. You may like the Into the WIlderness Series by Sara Donati. The two main characters have a great romantic attraction, passion.... but it is based in America in the 17 & 1800's. Or Ken Follett's books are actually a Great Read.... THe Pillars of the Earth & the sequel, A world Without End.
Those are the best books ever - very difficult to find someone to equal Alexander...so I'm no help!
something in a similar feel is
my sister and i really loved it and am a sucker for war romances. give it a go.

I love love the bronze horseman series. I have also fallen in love with all of Belinda Alexandras books. Wild lavender and white gardenia to remind me of the series the most.
If you can read in spanish try Caballo de fuego by Florencia Bonelli. A video made by fans : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIPfKz...
Hmmm...ok, I've got a few books that I think you might enjoy if you (rightly) are obsessed with TBH. Have you tried the Host? You may think you would be in for another twilight-mania, but actually, it's very different kind of book, thoughtfu and with a really great love story. Also, Rebecca, by daphne du maurier, a very intensely moving story. And then there's always Gone with the Wind?
I just finished reading "THE INVISIBLE BRIDGE" and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Tatiana and Alexander has got to be my favorite series, so I was happy to find another book that wrapped me up in the story so well. It's set in Paris during WWII, there is love heartbreak, humor and strife all of the things I love in a historical fiction book.
Have you tried the other book by this author? Tully?
You might like stoppedThe End of Sorrow: A Novel of the Siege of Leningrad in WWII or The Siege both are excellent novels set in the same time & place as the BH. Feel free to look at my Russia shelf - everything on there came after I read the BH and fell in love with Alexander!
I love Paullina Simons, The Bronze horse man it's my favorite love book EVER!! i can't find any book like TBHM :(
I love Florencia Bonelli too, i read in spanish and she is fantastic
I recommended Olivia and Jai of Rebecca Ryman

Just finished Tatiana & Alexander and loved it. On to the last book in the trilogy - The Summer Garden. I hope they are happy but probably not as it is 746 pages!
I loved this book and the sequel. Can I recommend to you ladies, 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. It's not historical, but it's the greatest love story I've ever read. Ana and Christian would definitely give Tatiana and Alexander a run for their money. I can assure you, you won't be disappointed!
Noah Gordon's The Physician followed by Shaman is outstanding. Also try Ken Follett's books. The Pillars of the Earth set as already recommended as well as Fall of Giants/Winter of the World, and some earlier works. I have yet to be disappointed and felt the characters, history and story lines match TBH.
Thanks everyone for the suggestion of Kate Furnivall - if she produces anything like Outlander, Ken Follett or TBH I cannot wait!

I am still not sure why the original post said no Outlander. Those were amazing. I have reread that series so many times. They are casting now for the Starz series. So far the characters are awesome. I am excited for the series. I will have to check out Kate Furnivall now. I see her mentioned several times. I too really enjoyed the Bronze Horseman series. Brought me to tears in a few spots!!
The next best series is the Outlander series. Takes about 100 pages in the first book, but then you are hooked and there are a lot of books in this series.
