What to Read After Twilight?

anything. get twilght out of your system. read better books (if you like twlight) cause there are better things out there and as soon as you start reading other books you relise how crap twlight is...

Thats a general opinion. I've read over 300 books since twilight and I still enjoy going back to Twilight. Sure, its not the best, but it's entertaining to say the least.

-The Hunger games (Gripping read!)
-Harry Potter (My favorite!)
-The Darkest Powers Trilogy (highly recommended!)
-The Mortal Instruments
-The Clockwork Angel (read after mortal instruments for full satisfaction)
-The House of Night (its good, then gets annoying, but I still read them)
-Sookie Stackhouse series
-The Immortals series (buy with caution- some loved it and some hated it. I liked the first few books and the very last)
-I'm currently reading "The Gathering" by Kelly Armstrong and I got hooked within the first 7 pages!

2 mediators
3 All books written by LJ Smith
4 mortal instruments
5 vampire academy
6 gemma doyle trilogy
7 sweep wicca
8 alex flinn- a kiss in time
9 blue bloods
10 unearthly, hourglass and curse workers

On the subject of the thread, if you aren't squeamish, I would check out the Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris. It is excellent and there are a ton of them (11 I think). I am also reading the House of Night series. It's a bit YA Lit, but still has some good stuff. It is also a series with the 9th book coming out next month.
I would also like to say that you should read what you like. Obviously it's important to branch out and try new things, but at least you are reading, and that's what really matters!

i have read house of night and if you're not over 13 it's a bit inoproprite. it's got lots os swearing and 'sexual references'.

I didn't like Twilight, but I am a fan of a series that targets the same audience, and it has fantasy/sci-fi/romance in it. You might want to check out The Hourglass Door series by Lisa Mangum.

I agree. But aside from that it's a good series.

That's correct. There are a lot of parts in the books which could've been shortened. Like all those Zoey romances for instance. But all in all a good read.
Also, Kate Daniels is a good series if someone's looking for some action & romance combo with shapeshifters, vampires & witches thrown in. It's well written too. But again, it's the above 13 type.

These are just some of my favorite, the top few are actually up there for me with Twilight and the authors are absolutely brilliant.

Almost every author, even Stephen King(you would't probably who he is), had haters. But every author's development brings people from hate community to fans community.Stephenie Meyer will never develop because she has no qualities of a even a basic author. You might argue Stephenie started writing late in her life, but then I don't know why she bothered to.

Thanks, but I actually do know who Stephen King is, maybe your point would have more validity if you didn't talk down to people and actually had some constructive criticism to offer as to why you don't like Stephenie Meyers as an author. My point is everyone is entitled to love or hate authors novels, styles of writing but have a constructive reason as to why if you are going to comment. And bashing people is childish, rude and ignorant. Gee, why did Stephenie bother, lets see, 4 bestsellers, 5 movies, millions of adoring fans. I am stumped! Did she write a literary masterpiece, probably not, but she did write a fun entertaining story that inspired other now successful authors to do the same. So if you are trying to make a point, make one already because I don't see it.

Alright you know what,I am sorry I looked down at you.But seriously Elaina, one reader to another, can I ask you something? Please can you answer me honestly? Is Stephenie Meyer comparable to JK Rowling? Why do twitards do that? Comparing Stephenie to other authors? Stephenie wrote a book, got famous ( a little lucky though ) and made a lot of money. But she is not a professional author right? That's what bothers me Elaina. That is exactly what makes me hate her. Anyways I am sorry again.

Do all of the threads get so crazy here on goodreads? Indianronaldo what are you doing getting so angry in the wee hours in the morning? Why does it bother you that so many people like the Twilight series? I am not a fan of the Dresden files and I was really disappointed in the Mistborn series but you don't see me seeking out threads on those books to tell people how wrong they are. Like it or not Stephanie Meyer is a professional author. That means she makes money selling books she wrote. This thread is for people who liked the Twilight books who would like to find other books that they might also like to read. That is sort of the point of this goodreads web page anyway. Please take your anger elsewhere. It is not welcome here.

Thank you Danielle, that was my point exactly. I hated the book, "The eternal ones," I thought the writing was only OK, the plot was eh, and i hated the characters, but I didn't go around bashing the author and joining every freakin thread on it to talk about this book. I gave it a quick rating, said I didn't like it for the above reasons, didn't continue with the next book in the series, and was done with it.

I will answer your question, "from one reader to another" I am glad you at least apologized, because you really shouldn't judge people. You just assumed that because I love Twilight, I am uneducated and wouldn't have heard of Stephen King, I bet I can name tons of authors you haven't heard of and you know why? Because I am well educated and well read. I studied English literature and Stephen King, I am sorry, for me, would not be up there with the best literary minds despite how good he is. I am a huge fan of the classics, particularly Charles Dickens and Jane Austin. To me they are literary geniuses. And you know what, so is Dr. Seuss. And you know what else, despite my love of the classics, and my well educated self, I am still a freakin' Twihard and proud of it. Stephenie Meyer took Vampires and created her own scientific spin on it with a fun entertaining story. She is a good writer and a good storyteller and she doesn't have to please everyone, just her target audience, that's the way publishing works, and she did just that. I don't see the need to compare her books to Harry Potter either, they are completely different, and yes, J.K Rowling is a master, I adore her and am also a huge Harry Potter fan. But Stephanie not being as good a writer as the masters, doesn't make her a bad one, break it down and read the dialogue and her descriptions, her research into the area of Forks and Italy, the transformation, the emotional turmoil of first love and heartbreak, all teenage girls can relate to this. She is not an international bestselling author because she sucks. But you are entitled to hate the story, absolutely, but don't argue with people who like it and basically tell them they are idiots because they see something in it that you don't. To me, she is a good writer with an amazing story. And yes, she is a professional author, it's her "profession" and how she successfully earns a living.

I apologise.I guess a change in my perspective is needed.

Well put Elaina!
I hate how people judge you because you read twilight. If you can even 'stand' reading it you must be undereducated and stupid right? Indianaronaldo, I would seriously advise you to reconsider what you are saying next time you want to put someone down for reading twilight. Assuming that twilight readers don't know who Stephen King is a huge insult. Last time I checked my GPA didn't drop because I like Twilight. Oh, and guess what, I am ALSO an English major who adores the classics, so yes, I also know who Stephen King is.
Hemmingway is a masterful story teller, but he made many grammatical errors, but I still love him.
Don't judge people please. It's what I hate most about people who dislike the Twilight fans. You can hate the books all you want, but don't judge the readers.

My feelings exactly!!!....:D
