Eline @Jennifer: Woow, thanks for that list! There are books on it,that I've already read or planned to read. But also new ones. So thanks!

Serena I went from Twilight to Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith. But after two books I moved on to "How to marry a millionaire vampire" by Kerrelyn Sparks and I ended up reading the whole "stake" serie there. Then I moved on to Werewolf's / Lycan's and jumped on S.K. Yule's books. Way different than the earlier books I have read. And now I am looking further for what will come up next.

Rula i am planning to read the following: "I'd tell you i love you, but then i'd have to kill you" by Ally Carter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling, Marley and Me:Love and Life with the World's Worst dog by John Grogan, Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah, Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell, Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter, The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisburger, Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature by Linda Lear, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion by Jane Austen, Book of Love (Knight Angels book 1) by Abra Ebner, Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter, and The Legacy by Katharine Webb, and not forgetting The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.

Thats a general opinion. I've read over 300 books since twilight and I still enjoy going back to Twilight. Sure, its not the best, but it's entertaining to say the least.

Natalie Some good reads that Twilight fans might enjoy:
-The Hunger games (Gripping read!)
-Harry Potter (My favorite!)
-The Darkest Powers Trilogy (highly recommended!)
-The Mortal Instruments
-The Clockwork Angel (read after mortal instruments for full satisfaction)
-The House of Night (its good, then gets annoying, but I still read them)
-Sookie Stackhouse series
-The Immortals series (buy with caution- some loved it and some hated it. I liked the first few books and the very last)
-I'm currently reading "The Gathering" by Kelly Armstrong and I got hooked within the first 7 pages!

chinami 1 Darkest powers

Justine Smith check out THE HISTORIAN very good

PostCardashian Kim I'm reading Twilight now! And Song to Wake to Song to Wake to at the same time. They go together nicely, some of the themes are the same, but the characters seem to me to be more sympathetic, and there's no vampires...

Stephanie I would just like to say that there is absolutely no shame in liking the Twilight Saga. I've read it, TWICE, and I have read A LOT of good literature. I have a degree in Literature/Creative Writing. I think the story has merit. Not to mention, it's nice to be able to sink into a story that you don't have to think about. It's my version of some people's TV Vegetative States. Sometimes you just need an easy read.
On the subject of the thread, if you aren't squeamish, I would check out the Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris. It is excellent and there are a ton of them (11 I think). I am also reading the House of Night series. It's a bit YA Lit, but still has some good stuff. It is also a series with the 9th book coming out next month.
I would also like to say that you should read what you like. Obviously it's important to branch out and try new things, but at least you are reading, and that's what really matters!

how is that rude? this thing is about stating your opinion! that is mine and alot of people agree with me! so if you can't handle someone elses' opinion. GET OVER IT OR LEAVE!

Renee Vampire Academy!

Waqas House of Night & Blue Bloods. I'd also recommend The Host by Stephanie Meyer if you were more drawn towards the love story rather than the Vampire werewolf thing.

Sarah Baethge Read a bit of Anne Rice if you're still in the vampire mood.

i have read house of night and if you're not over 13 it's a bit inoproprite. it's got lots os swearing and 'sexual references'.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't like Twilight, but I am a fan of a series that targets the same audience, and it has fantasy/sci-fi/romance in it. You might want to check out The Hourglass Door series by Lisa Mangum.

Carrie Marshall Sookie Stackhouse Series(True Blood), or Vampire Academy, But nothing compares.

Waqas Georgia wrote: "Waqas wrote: "House of Night & Blue Bloods. I'd also recommend The Host by Stephanie Meyer if you were more drawn towards the love story rather than the Vampire werewolf thing."

I agree. But aside from that it's a good series.

message 24: by Faye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Faye Meredith Hidden by Shalini Boland, about a girl who inherits a spooky English mansion. It's epic, romantic, creepy and beautifully written.

message 25: by Will (new) - rated it 1 star

Will IV Vampire Hunter D series is phenomenal.

Waqas Georgia wrote: "Waqas wrote: "Georgia wrote: "Waqas wrote: "House of Night & Blue Bloods. I'd also recommend The Host by Stephanie Meyer if you were more drawn towards the love story rather than the Vampire werewo..."

That's correct. There are a lot of parts in the books which could've been shortened. Like all those Zoey romances for instance. But all in all a good read.
Also, Kate Daniels is a good series if someone's looking for some action & romance combo with shapeshifters, vampires & witches thrown in. It's well written too. But again, it's the above 13 type.

[Coco] Just a question- why would u recommend to read the hunger games after twilight? they're nothing alike. the hunger games is actually good, in my opinion...

C.C. Serena wrote: "I went from Twilight to Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith."

How was the Vampire Diaries series? was it good?

Danielle I think if you like Twilight you might want to check out Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson Series. There 6 or 7 books in the series and some are better than others but as a whole I have enjoyed them. I also likes Nicole Peeler's Jane True books. There are 4 in the series but only the first 3 are really good.

Lauraleigh Kim Harrisons Hallow series is an amazing one to read, im half way threw it and wow i cant stop reading its just brilliant

LoisLane00007 I don't understand why people feel the need to be mean and bash twilight. Stephenie Meyer isn't a worldwide phenomenon for no reason. Many young adult authors have praised her for opening up many doors for them. If you simply don't like a book, fine, you are entitled to your opinion, offer a constructive critique, otherwise your words are just useless and you sound ignorant.

Sorry had to vent, but here is my list of amazing series and yes, if you loved or even liked Twilight, you will love these.

The Tiger's Curse Series by Colleen Houck
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Claire (Be sure to read the prequels, The Infernal Devices after reading at least 3 of the TMI books)
The Hunger Games
The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa
Wings series by Aprilynne Pike
Vampire Academy by Rachelle Mead
River of Time series Lisa T. Bergren
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
Shiver series by Maggie Steifvater
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Die For Me by Amy Plum
Firelight series by Sophie Jordan

These are just some of my favorite, the top few are actually up there for me with Twilight and the authors are absolutely brilliant.

Astraea Carmilla by Le Fanu.

And watch Bela Lugosi in the original Dracula.

Mehnaz I went for LJ books...:)

Almost every author, even Stephen King(you would't probably who he is), had haters. But every author's development brings people from hate community to fans community.Stephenie Meyer will never develop because she has no qualities of a even a basic author. You might argue Stephenie started writing late in her life, but then I don't know why she bothered to.

LoisLane00007 Indianaronaldo wrote: "Elaina wrote: "I don't understand why people feel the need to be mean and bash twilight. Stephenie Meyer isn't a worldwide phenomenon for no reason. Many young adult authors have praised her for ..."

Thanks, but I actually do know who Stephen King is, maybe your point would have more validity if you didn't talk down to people and actually had some constructive criticism to offer as to why you don't like Stephenie Meyers as an author. My point is everyone is entitled to love or hate authors novels, styles of writing but have a constructive reason as to why if you are going to comment. And bashing people is childish, rude and ignorant. Gee, why did Stephenie bother, lets see, 4 bestsellers, 5 movies, millions of adoring fans. I am stumped! Did she write a literary masterpiece, probably not, but she did write a fun entertaining story that inspired other now successful authors to do the same. So if you are trying to make a point, make one already because I don't see it.

LoisLane00007 The only reason I even commented in the first place about being annoyed with Twilight bashers was because this particular thread was about book recommendations on what to read after Twilight, so naturally, Twilight haters have to rear their ugly heads in this thread. It's like you can't have a simple discussion about book suggestions. There are plenty of Twilight bashing threads out there, go talk about it there.

புழுதி Elaina wrote: "The only reason I even commented in the first place about being annoyed with Twilight bashers was because this particular thread was about book recommendations on what to read after Twilight, so na..."

Alright you know what,I am sorry I looked down at you.But seriously Elaina, one reader to another, can I ask you something? Please can you answer me honestly? Is Stephenie Meyer comparable to JK Rowling? Why do twitards do that? Comparing Stephenie to other authors? Stephenie wrote a book, got famous ( a little lucky though ) and made a lot of money. But she is not a professional author right? That's what bothers me Elaina. That is exactly what makes me hate her. Anyways I am sorry again.

Danielle Indianaronaldo wrote: "Elaina wrote: "The only reason I even commented in the first place about being annoyed with Twilight bashers was because this particular thread was about book recommendations on what to read after ..."
Do all of the threads get so crazy here on goodreads? Indianronaldo what are you doing getting so angry in the wee hours in the morning? Why does it bother you that so many people like the Twilight series? I am not a fan of the Dresden files and I was really disappointed in the Mistborn series but you don't see me seeking out threads on those books to tell people how wrong they are. Like it or not Stephanie Meyer is a professional author. That means she makes money selling books she wrote. This thread is for people who liked the Twilight books who would like to find other books that they might also like to read. That is sort of the point of this goodreads web page anyway. Please take your anger elsewhere. It is not welcome here.

Thank you Danielle, that was my point exactly. I hated the book, "The eternal ones," I thought the writing was only OK, the plot was eh, and i hated the characters, but I didn't go around bashing the author and joining every freakin thread on it to talk about this book. I gave it a quick rating, said I didn't like it for the above reasons, didn't continue with the next book in the series, and was done with it.

LoisLane00007 Indianaronaldo wrote: "Elaina wrote: "The only reason I even commented in the first place about being annoyed with Twilight bashers was because this particular thread was about book recommendations on what to read after ..."

I will answer your question, "from one reader to another" I am glad you at least apologized, because you really shouldn't judge people. You just assumed that because I love Twilight, I am uneducated and wouldn't have heard of Stephen King, I bet I can name tons of authors you haven't heard of and you know why? Because I am well educated and well read. I studied English literature and Stephen King, I am sorry, for me, would not be up there with the best literary minds despite how good he is. I am a huge fan of the classics, particularly Charles Dickens and Jane Austin. To me they are literary geniuses. And you know what, so is Dr. Seuss. And you know what else, despite my love of the classics, and my well educated self, I am still a freakin' Twihard and proud of it. Stephenie Meyer took Vampires and created her own scientific spin on it with a fun entertaining story. She is a good writer and a good storyteller and she doesn't have to please everyone, just her target audience, that's the way publishing works, and she did just that. I don't see the need to compare her books to Harry Potter either, they are completely different, and yes, J.K Rowling is a master, I adore her and am also a huge Harry Potter fan. But Stephanie not being as good a writer as the masters, doesn't make her a bad one, break it down and read the dialogue and her descriptions, her research into the area of Forks and Italy, the transformation, the emotional turmoil of first love and heartbreak, all teenage girls can relate to this. She is not an international bestselling author because she sucks. But you are entitled to hate the story, absolutely, but don't argue with people who like it and basically tell them they are idiots because they see something in it that you don't. To me, she is a good writer with an amazing story. And yes, she is a professional author, it's her "profession" and how she successfully earns a living.

Well put Elaina!

I hate how people judge you because you read twilight. If you can even 'stand' reading it you must be undereducated and stupid right? Indianaronaldo, I would seriously advise you to reconsider what you are saying next time you want to put someone down for reading twilight. Assuming that twilight readers don't know who Stephen King is a huge insult. Last time I checked my GPA didn't drop because I like Twilight. Oh, and guess what, I am ALSO an English major who adores the classics, so yes, I also know who Stephen King is.

Hemmingway is a masterful story teller, but he made many grammatical errors, but I still love him.

Don't judge people please. It's what I hate most about people who dislike the Twilight fans. You can hate the books all you want, but don't judge the readers.

Natalie Back to the discussion:

I just finished Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick and I really enjoyed it!

LoisLane00007 Well Put Natalie, thank you. And yes, back to the discussion, Hush Hush was really good, you should definitely continue with the series. I didn't love Crescendo, book two, it was my least favorite, but Silence, the latest one was the best of all three. Now we just have to wait for 4 to come out.

Danielle Someone mentioned the Hunger Games Triology and Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. I have to second those. While Hunger Games does not have any vampires it is still fantasy and I think the story will be liked by those who like Twilight. If you want just vampires try Fledgling by Octavia Butler.

Fiona Yonkman Definitely read Wings by Aprilynne Pike and Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore.
