Excellent movie, I agree...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) We watched 127 hours on DVD on Friday night and Red Riding Hood at the movies last night.

127 hours was alright, but I almost would have preferred it to be shot as more of a documentary style. I really didn't care about his personal life flashbacks, even if they were sort of showing how he was starting to go a little bit mad.

Red Riding Hood was good. Nothing special. I guessed who the wolf was right away (although other people I've talked to didn't, so maybe I just got lucky). The story was average, some of the lines were cheesy ("I could eat you up"...ewww), but it was cute and the cinematography was stunning. My husband liked it okay, so that was a minor win. I loved watching it on the big screen for its beauty.

janine | 7709 comments i've been watching more tv lately due to internet withdrawal. yesterday i saw the red shoes on the bbc.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments I went to the movies with my Dad this weekend and saw Red Riding Hood. I liked it. Not excited about it, but was entertained. My Dad, who usually can guess who did what, was actually wrong. It was nice to taunt him at Long Johns after. :)

message 2905: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments We saw Paul, which was pretty funny. A few too many gay panic jokes for my taste, but other than that it was entertaining. There were some great references to other SF films, and a couple of fun cameos, and Kristen Wiig was movie-KW not SNL-KW, which is to say not irritating.

Also saw the Fighter on DVD. I thought it was quite good. I'm glad I didn't know the results of any of the fights, or really any of the backstory. Melissa Leo was good, but I'm not sure she deserved that Oscar more than the other nominees.

message 2906: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Saw "The Lovely Bones" yesterday. We got it from Netflix about five months ago. Call me speedy. :)

It was, as Randy Jackson would say, "ah-ight" for me.

message 2907: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments I caught 'Ocean' on TV the other night. Considering I rarely watch TV, I actually have a pretty nice one- and Ocean was very pretty to watch on it. It's the first time I've fully appreciated the LCD/HDTV thing. It's probably been out for a long time, but this is the first time I've seen it.

message 2908: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments What is Ocean?

message 2909: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments Phil wrote: "What is Ocean?"

I think it’s a Disney nature program- it was a documentary all about well, oceans and how we’re destroying them. It really was visually stunning. I think it’s by the same film maker as ‘Earth’- also visually stunning, if you haven’t seen it.

I don’t go very often. The only time I get to go is taking the four year old to the latest animated movie. Suckerpunch does look interesting.

Brittomart Phil wrote:

'cause Randy Jackson is the only black person to ever say aiight.

message 2912: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Really? I thought it was more popular than that.

I used RJ as an example because he says it week after week on one of the most watched television shows in history.

Perhaps I should have said, "as many black people might say, it was aiight for me?"

Aiight, let's settle this once and for all.

message 2914: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Phil. It was a joke.

You could have just said it was aiight, and that would been hilarious.

message 2915: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments In the aftermath of the "are we gay friendly" thread, I missed the joke.

Aiight?

message 2916: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Does there need to be an "are we race friendly" thread? Geez. Calm down.

Phil | 11837 comments Hehehe. Now you missed my joke! Even Stephen, that's my name! :)

Anybody see what I did there?

Oooh, I want to see Margin Call.

With Jeremy Irons, Simon Baker, and some others I don't care about including Kevin Spacey and Demi Moore. Subject: global financial crisis of 2008.

I had already planned on seeing Suckerpunch, but Hanna also looks like it will be quite interesting. The commercial came on a few times tonight and it caught my eye.

message 2922: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I saw two movies while in AZ. Limitless was average. It could have been much better, although two hours of Bradley Cooper was bearable ;) Rango was fun. A modern and fun take on the 60's serial western. The animation was stunning even if the story itself was predictable. Not sure it is really made for kids though. My daughter and I were going to see Suckerpunch, but the reviews were so bad... I wish we would of seen it instead. Damn those reviews!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) We watched Buried on DVD over the weekend. This has to be the lowest budget movie ever made. The guy was in a coffin the whole time with no props other than a cell phone, a lighter, a flashlight and some glowsticks. There was only one actor (Ryan Reynolds) and a few voices on the phone.

It sucked pretty hard. He did everything wrong for the entire length of the movie, and in the end he got what he deserved.

message 2924: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I watched CONVICTION tonight.
This movie made me think...
what would I do for my sisters?
about the death penalty...
Hillary Swank was wonderful.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I watched Temple Grandin over the weekend. I also watched Paper Heart, Capitalism: A Love Story, and a serious retro wayback - The Last Unicorn (ft. original music by America).

Temple Grandin was really the only one that didn't disappoint. In fact, I found it to be inspiring, mesmerizing, & charming.

Félix (habitseven) I just watched the first 2/3 of Crazy Heart. Heartbreaking. So good. Bridges is amazing.

janine | 7709 comments i've watched delicatessen and the shawshank redemption last week.

message 2928: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I've never seen Delicatessen. Tell us about it, in your own words.

message 2929: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments it is a bit like amélie (you know, french), but with cannibals. the loveliest film about cannibals i have ever seen.

message 2930: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I loved Amélie. I've never seen a film about cannibals.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments Saw Sucker Punch on Saturday. Slightly confusing at the very beginning, but I got back on track and enjoyed the movie.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I saw The Tourist this weekend. Holy bejesus was that movie boring.

One of my favorites, Larry!

Watched Salt (not bad) and The Road this weekend. The Road was every bit as depressing as the book, what was I thinking adding that to the queue?

message 2936: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Heidi, I loved the Last Unicorn as a kid, and I've heard it holds up as an adult. So that's true?

Watched and loved Youth in Revolt a few times this week. Love Michael Cera. Love.

message 2938: by RandomAnthony (last edited Apr 01, 2011 02:11PM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I didn't like Youth in Revolt much. I'm not sure why.

Over the last couple days I watched Inside Job, the documentary on the cause/process of the economic crisis. Well done...pretty interesting.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Sort of behind, but saw RED last night and it was eh...

Phil | 11837 comments On a recommendation from someone here (Sarah Pi?), we just got "Micmacs" from Netflix and will watch it this weekend. I've got to have something to do because we'll be in Las Vegas and I don't gamble. We're there so my wife can enjoy the UNLVino wine tasting & her dad can play blackjack.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Saw Sucker Punch tonight. If they had tightened up the story a bit and scaled back a few of the long action scenes, it would have been a great movie. With the few complaints I have, I rate it somewhere between mediocre and decent. The cinematography was beautiful, and the music fit the mood perfectly, but there were a few parts in the movie where my eyes started to glaze over a little.

Now this is more like it. No cutesy, animated talking critters, tired, cliched plot lines, or predictable happy endings. "Rodrick Rules" pulsates and twitches with an undercurrent of sibling headgames, middle-school caste systems, and good old-fashioned parental duping. Much better than the first installment.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments "Life With Judy Garland: Me and my Shadows." Really great cast, based on book by Judy's daughter Lorna Luft. Such a sad story, but the movie managed to be not as depressing as Judy's life.

I said I was interested in seeing Micmacs, not that I'd seen it yet. I'll be curious to hear your report!

We watched "Love & Other Drugs." Both Anne Hathaway and Jake Gylenhaal are very, very, naked in this movie.
