When is the next WC, next year?

message 2802: by [deleted user] (new)

When is Super 15?

message 2803: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments World Cup is this year!
Super 15 starts Friday February 18th.

message 2804: by [deleted user] (new)

Crap, I'll have to see if I get it and if I can set it to DVR. When does World Cup start? That is THE BEST, SA, Aussies, All Blacks, Fiji, Samoa...then the couple of European teams that don't totally bite in comparison. ;) The US is always a bit lame, but I cheer them on anyway.

Sarah | 13814 comments It's not til late summer/early fall. September maybe?

I didn't like this as much as everyone else.

I just saw Machete. That was fun, really, completely over the top and very violent, but, uh, in a campy way, although I had to keep shooing my kids out of the room.

Also, Michelle Rodriguez. Damn.

message 2807: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Don't see Machete, then, Barb!

message 2808: by [deleted user] (new)

Ech, I abhor Tarantino.

message 2809: by [deleted user] (new)

Hah! I can only order a cheeseburger and fries, or invite you to church. :) (leftovers from a mission trip when I was 18.)

message 2810: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) The Old Man and I watched 2 movies the other night--Devil--LAME!! oh so lame--and The Joneses, which was interesting. Demi rocked some sweet Louboutin boots in one scene so I did my usual "LOUBS!!" shriek-alert, which annoys him and makes him worry an expensive package is going to show up on the doorstep a few days later. (Not gonna happen, my cat Gozer has ruined me financially.)

Félix (habitseven) Whatever.

Félix (habitseven) Scrambled.

message 2816: by [deleted user] (new)

Larry, her husband put the movie Devil on the other day, but he fell asleep, because it was obviously so boring and crap. As a result, he hasn't bothered to give it another go.

I translate from girl to boy for a nominal fee. Your invoice will be in the mail shortly.

I was cleaning out the basement a few days ago and came across this in my old entertainment center. Have no idea how I wound up with it.

The world's most beloved child murderer keeps the world safe from teenagers.

message 2818: by Riëtte (new)

Riëtte Rossouw | 11 comments Freddie Kruger.. good times.

80's horrors, then. I watched 'IT' again the other day, and it was still scary. Maybe it was just residual creeps from what I remember about it when I watched it the first time, and had nightmares about Pennywise hiding in my closet, chewing on Tigger.

VHS?

Stacia ~ the plucky heroine wrote: "VHS?"

Yup.

message 2821: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I long to see a truly scary scary movie. The last one I saw that really frightened me was Paranormal Activity, which merely annoyed me in the theatre but worked on my mind for a couple of weeks afterwards.

I hear you.
Have you seen The Orphanage?

message 2823: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Yes. Some good scary moments but overall, not scary enough.

message 2824: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments We watched RED the other night. I thought it was pretty entertaining. Loved Helen Mirren.

message 2825: by [deleted user] (new)

I really liked The Messengers.

message 2826: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I watched CATFISH. interesting movie, made documentary style, about a facebook relationship that is not really what it claimed. this movie raises a lot of questions in mind about my virtual world. are you really who you say you are?

Huh! Was that Netflixed Petra? I might have to check it out.

message 2828: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I just saw the King's Speech. It was excellent. Good drama with a sense of humor.

ms.petra (mspetra) Sally wrote: "Huh! Was that Netflixed Petra? I might have to check it out."

I picked it up from the library, Sally. It is probably on netflix.

message 2830: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Watched 2 movies last night, neither of them especialyl good--The Cry of the Owl and Chloe, which looked good on paper--Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, and Amanda Seyfried--but was disappointingly unoriginal.

message 2831: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I saw the King's Speech today. The Oscar is Colin Firth's to lose. He was really, really good.

Yikes.

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I'm sure, but 5 seconds was already too much for me.

Sarah | 13814 comments Aynge wrote: "I'm sure, but 5 seconds was already too much for me."

Meryl Streep did a good job with The Winner Takes It All, and her two sidekicks were awesome. Other than them, the cast's singing ability did not win me over.

Zu rented "Welcome to the Rileys" last night, which was some Sundance film with James Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart and Melissa Leo. Melissa Leo was very good as the agoraphobic wife. Kristen Stewart was AWFUL, pouty and twitchy and creepy. It wasn't part of the character, I guess, but does she even have the facial muscles to smile?

message 2837: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I haven't seen much of Kristen Stewart's work. I only remember her as the daughter in Panic Room. But I did see her on some talk show, and she really did seem twitchy and awkward and very inarticulate. Maybe she's just really shy.

message 2838: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I had no idea that was her in Panic Room. Huh.

message 2839: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Is it just me, or are there a lot of new actors and actresses that have that one thing they do, and that's it. Like, Kristen Stewart is always the same unbearable character. Michael Cera is always Michael Cera. And yes, Jesse Eisenberg is ALWAYS the same guy, except when he's Mark Zuckerberg.

Sarah | 13814 comments Myles wrote: "I thought she was good in Into Thin Air, but then again, maybe she's just good at being a bored, desperate teenage girl.

Twilight and Adventureland were pretty dull."

Into Thin Air? The Everest book? Did they make a movie out of it?

Britt, I'd agree with you on all three of those actors. I think the degree to which you like their movies depends on the degree to which you tolerate their persona. Ellen Page is on that list also, but I like the spunky teen shtick better than Kristen Stewart's pouty one.

message 2841: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Yes, I agree about Ellen Page. But I also think that she's growing though.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments That's what's so amazing about Christian Bale - he becomes such different characters in his movies, not just different versions of Christian Bale.

message 2843: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Sam Rockwell too. I never recognize Sam Rockwell from movie to movie.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hee! I love the guinea pig Sam Rockwell. :)

message 2845: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Since the guinea pig photo and the one from Moon just above it are at the same angle, I can actually say I see the resemblance. It still has his nose.

message 2846: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Sam Rockwell as Thisbe in the 1995 A Midsummer's Night Dream was pretty legit as well.

message 2847: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I'll believe you that he was in that, though I don't remember it. He's a chameleon. Still, are you sure it was Thisbe he played? 'Cause that would be a stretch even for an actor of his caliber.

message 2848: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Yeah, he was one of the rude mechanicals that was chosen to play Thisbe.

I feel this way about Meg Ryan.
