Phil | 11837 comments I saw TRON tonight. It was cool. Nothing spectacular, but cool. And thirteen was in it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, I want to see that. My husband doesn't though. When did I become the guy?

message 2653: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I watched Fargo last night for the first time. It was rather intriguing. Apparently, it's not available in a novel. You can buy the screenplay. I could be wrong though.

Disturbing that there has been no claymation adaptation, either.

Margarida (mar9292) I saw "The Last Station" yesterday and thought it was very good. Helen Mirren is amazing as Tolstoy's wife.

Your post was right after mine, but I didn't put up any spoilers so surely this must be about an earlier post! Describing a 2 minute scene that has nothing to do with the main story or outcome of the movie is incapable of being a spoiler.

message 2658: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It didn't relate to anything. The words just spilled out through my fingertips, as is often the case when I'm here.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You might want to have those fingers checked out man. Leaking is never a good thing.

Oh, at first I thought that was a commemorative plate.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Commemorative condom plate.

message 2666: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart I just saw Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, and everyone must watch it. It is so good, you guys. If you have netflix instant streaming, it's on there - go see it now.

message 2667: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Britt, it was waiting at the library for me yesterday! Hope to fit it in this week.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments My in laws want to see "The Fighter". I do not. Too much violence for my taste. I had enough trouble with "The Town". I am looking forward to "True Grit" which I know has violence in it but it is not about violence itself.

message 2671: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I want to see The Fighter, Black Swan, Harry Potter, True Grit, and The Tourist. Tron looks interesting, but I will wait to hear the reviews. Hopefully, at least a couple of these after the holiday craziness.

message 2672: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments will watch "The Tourist" when it shows up on "on demand".

message 2673: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart I heard Tron is very pretty

message 2674: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments TRON was okay for me. I'd see it again if invited, though the CGI on Bridges at the beginning of the film was freaky.

The other day at Costco, I pointed to the rafters, told my wife, "Look, it's Haley's Comet," and threw this in the cart when she wasn't looking.

There’s nothing fancy here – no dancers throwing shapes in the background, computer-aided mumbo jumbo, or sparks showering down from the rafters – just five guys (eight, if you include Bobby Keys and two other guys on horns) who found stardom through a rough combination of dues paying and genuine talent, not custody battles, smoke, mirrors, and wardrobe malfunctions.

This 1972 tour memento, filmed at four Texas gigs, finds the Stones bloodied but unbowed by Altamont with the Beatles sucking their fumes again (the Fab Four just weren’t built for the long haul, thank God), Charlie Watts reining the whole mess in just before it all threatens to fall apart. Jagger’s lips have never looked bigger, Keef sports what looks like a Scottish terrier on his head, and Mick Taylor quietly plies his craft in the background. Without Taylor, it’s not hard to imagine these guys throwing a rod somewhere along the way.

Highlight for me – amongst several - is a sloppy “Dead Flowers” twangfest courtesy of Taylor and Richards.

message 2680: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'll see them all when they get to Netflix. King's Speech is high on the list.

Channel surfing and out of my insomnia-crazed mind at 3 a.m.:

South American princess grinds her crotch against rich white people to alert them to the tragedies of deforestation. Or something like that. I finally passed out.

That's not Don Johnson, is it?

I once attended a Don Johnson film festival. That guy has been in some doozies. I don't recommend "The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart."

ms.petra (mspetra) @Heidi. I just saw Javier Bardem on Jay Leno. He has a new movie, BEAUTIFUL. He is just the bee's knees! :)

message 2688: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments My father came to visit, and we saw Black Swan in the theater, then Inception and Mr. Nobody at home. I doubt anyone else in the whole world will have watched those three movies in three days, but I can now tell you that time, memory, and self are all illusions. I've made all of you up. There are cities beneath my eyelids.

1)Black Swan was creepy, sexy, and violent. I think I would have gotten more out of it if I knew Swan Lake better, but it was pretty damn cool.

2)Inception was awesome looking, and a pretty neat construction.

3)Have any of you seen Mr. Nobody? It's a Belgian SF film from last year starring Jared Leto and Sarah Polley. Poignant and daring.

Britt, I watched it last night. I did not realize she is 75 yrs old! I find her humor somewhat caustic and brash, but I do love her on the Fashion Police. She has forged her path and is admirable in her work ethic. Overall, an interesting movie.

message 2690: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart I didn't know she was a comedian. I just knew Joan Rivers as the woman who got a lot of plastic surgery and who did the red carpet fashion shows.

I also didn't know that she's so funny! When she's telling off that heckler, and she does the joke about her first husband, I died.

message 2691: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments Britt, you should have seen her when she subbed for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show, before Jay Leno.

Félix (habitseven) Saw Bright Star tonight, an Aussie 2009 production of the story of the love affair between John Keats and Fannie Brawne (played superbly by Abbie Cornish).

Photography was spectacular. Abbie is spectacular. Very enjoyable film.

message 2694: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I watched COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY. I did not know that Coco was Igor's muse and benefactor. Desire, passion, broken hearts, and of course, music. I loved it.

So-so, but a little too long. Disney throws a lot of things at the wall here to see what will stick, including traces of "Logan's Run," "Rollerball," "Star Wars," "Deathrace 2000," and a plot cribbed directly from the Old Testament.

message 2696: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments saw "True Grit" today. I enjoyed it. This version was closer to the book than the earlier version. Jeff Bridges was good. Matt Damon so-so. The actress who played the young woman held her own which was no easy feat with Jeff Bridges going to town on the Rooster Cogburn role. It might have been more interesting if Matt Damon had played the villain and Josh Brolin the LaBouef part.

message 2697: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) watched Scott Pilgrim with my daughter last night. it kind of grew on me by the end. I did love the Knives and Ramona haircuts.

message 2698: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Black Swan was incredible. I wasn't expecting a psychological thriller. Wow.

message 2699: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I really want to see Black Swan. I have Scott Pilgrim from the library, for my wife, since I've already seen it...I thought it was ok but maybe too long. Also, I'm sick of Michael Cera.

Did I mention I saw Salt? That was good, better than expected.

message 2700: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart I'm seeing Black Swan tomorrow!
