Loathe it. Along with about 48 of the other choices.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Okay, pet peeve/rant here.

Why do the people who make animated movies have to get movie stars to do the voice overs for every movie now?

I don't watch movies with my kids (and my little one doesn't know who movie stars are anyway) to get my "hollywood" fix. Back in the days of Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, etc. I just liked the MOVIES, not who was starring in them.

Maybe I'm just jaded at these celebrities finding yet another reason to get a fat paycheck, when any joe off the street with a good voice and some skill would do it for 1/10 the price.

Clark, when the lights go down just put in your ear buds with your IPOD playing some of your hardest, most badassed music, close your eyes and enjoy. a win-win for everyone.

Worth the $1 Redbox rental fee I guess, but not all it's Kraked up to be.

I don't. This is Minnesota and Fargo is in North Dakota. If they would have picked a different title then maybe because it's not a bad movie. My picks would go to Herman, USA and Purple Rain.

i liked it too, it's the kind of story that appeals to me. i'd seen vanilla sky before and that was the reason i wanted to see the original. because of this the story was already spoiled for me. i would have liked it more if that wasn't the case.

if i were you i wouldn't bother with the american version, it has tom cruise and is too faithful an adaptation to add anything to the original.

The girls got this for their birthday last week so I poured a beer, sucked it up, and actually sat through the entire movie - and bonus features - with them.

It's all fairy dust and petty fairy jealousies and head games and cutesy fairy antics and lonely kids marooned in the middle of nowhere with nothing but their imaginations and unrelenting tape loops of crickets chirping to sustain them .

Let's just say that's 90 minutes and about $15 I'll never get back.

Joanne (bonfiggi) Disney, Barbie, Bratz dolls, what a load of crap. I know it's difficult to avoid, I sat through the &%$% Little Mermaid with my granddaughter, but I loathe it.
Not good for little girls.

message 2473: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments The Little Mermaid had decent songs, but I've always found the message of that story suspect.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm with you, Sarah Pi, on Little Mermaid. Give up your voice and your true self for a guy? I don't think so!
I love Beauty and the Beast, because Beauty really is an awesome girl, she loves to read, is totally unimpressed with Gaston, she's brave, really brave, and open-minded.

When I was 6 we went to Disneyland. At the end of the day, we only had enough time for one more thing or ride and I threw a small fit and insisted on some Cinderella or Snow White type thing, which wasn't even a ride. My brother wanted to go on a ride. We did the princess thing because I was younger and more deserving. Big mistake. It was completely lame and boring and utterly sucked and even at age 6 I regretted it right away.

Moral: Always go with the more exciting, less princessy option.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) As I read your post, LG there was an ad in the bottom right corner that featured Disney Princesses dancing.

Apparently, Goodreads disagrees with you.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments And may I point out that Beauty was not a princess. She's a bookworm with a crackpot inventor father.

Send her over, Gail. I'll spring for her flight. The Barbie princesses, Disney Channel teens, and Bratz are beginning to stare holes through the back of my head.

My son's been bugging me to buy this for what seems like forever so when we came across a used copy for $5 at Family Video, I figured I couldn't go wrong, right? So much for prescience...

We watched "2" last night and it fell just this side of memorable.

...and Stockholm syndrome.

I've had it with everyone loving Belle so much around here* just because she's a book worm. CINDERELLA is the best one. It's Cinderella. She's super nice to everyone, even though she's in a terrible situation AND she loves animals. She's not a princess either, until she falls in love with the prince. Please note: Cinderella doesn't even KNOW he's a prince when she falls in love with him. Belle has already seen The Beasts's giant castle, funny servants, and orgasmic library. She knows what she's getting. Plus, he has to die before she figures out that she loves him. Belle is a high-maintenance basket case, people. Get over her. There. I've said it.

*clearly I'm STILL bitter about that best Disney princess poll.

message 2494: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Huh. Never thought of it that way.
I guess that's why it was Cinderella they turned into the cute Ever After. Drew Barrymore's accent was beyond atrocious, but I loved her independence.

I love Anjelica Huston, and I love Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff/writer of Rocky Horror) chewing up the scenery as the bad guy.
Also, some excellent horse-watching.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Gretchen, you've made some excellent points! Yes, Cinderella is admirable, you're right.

I still like Belle, though. Come on, she wasn't thinking about falling in love AT ALL, let alone with a Beast.

I love Ever After too.

I mean, she knew where they slept and she fixed their food for gods sake...she could've knocked those bitches off and no one would've be the wiser...but noooo, she took their shit and kept on smiling. That was just sick and wrong...SICK.AND.WRONG!
