Chunksters Read-a-thon!!

Haha. Yes, I think 16 hours of reading is all anyone can handle, but the point of giving a full 24 hours seems to be to allow different time zones to run with it...

I can tentatively say that works for me."
Good excuse for me to re-read

Some things never require an excuse ;)
I have to disagree with Judy about the movie though. I found the script poor and it diverged so far from the book as to seem like the writers had no understanding of Alan Moore's motivations and intentions.

Does that mean that the theme of the Read-a-thon would be the English Parliament, with books all having to have at least something to do with Parliament (even if it's just that one of the characters is an MP)?
For those non-English who don't "get" this post, November 5th is Guy Fawkes Day. Having an English ancestry, I was brought up on it.

Oh, and those of us in the US will have 25, not 24 hours, for the read-a-thon, since that's the change from Daylight Saving Time and the clock falls back at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, in the middle of the time.
And, one other question. You said start at 10:00. Is that local time, so we all start and end on a staggered schedule, or do you want to specify a time zone for the 10:00 start?

I thought that way, those of us on the East Coast could start at 10 a.m., and when everyone else woke up they could join in. And then, I'm sure that when I go to sleep, those on the West Coast would probably still be chatting for a few more hours.
I know we've got at least a couple UK residents joining in, so I'm hoping basing it around Eastern Time won't inconvenience them too much. If so we can adjust.
I totally missed that that was fall-back weekend.
We can still edit and adjust as we get closer to the event date.

I don't think anyone is doing a full 24 hours. I'd be a wreck for work the next day. But making it a 24 hour period (the exact same 24 hours across time zones) seemed a decent way to be sure that at every hour, at least a couple folks will be around and posting.
I'm not a slave driver! :)

If you do another I'll probably join that one.

That's my plan, too, Martha. I vacuumed while listening to The Three Musketeers today. :)

You have to go to Aruba? You have our sympathies! :)

Of course, the simple solution to this problem could be that you should borrow/purchase an audio book before that day, so that if you still have to pack, you'll be reading while doing so. :)

I hear you, Meera. Biggest issue for me is husband - of course hours of football on his part are a given each weekend!

Naturally. You expected anything different when you married him? [g]

My boyfriend watched football all Sunday as well so he owes me one :) he doesn't get why I would want to read for 24 hours...lol
I listen to books on tape during my commute, I don't know what I would do without them! I think this would be a great idea though incase I have to do any errands or anything that day.

Of course on Monday, Thursday, and Friday nights I do get a lot of reading done, and before the child I got lots of reading done on the week-ends too, so I kinda like it.

LOL, no- never just weekends here ... it's any and all college, pros football, baseball, hockey, basketball, golf, tennis, soccer .... but the time for watching sports is in some kind of a different time dimension than any of the activities I like to do. Hmmmm

Books mentioned in this topic
A Town Like Alice (other topics)On the Beach (other topics)
East of Eden (other topics)
Rebecca (other topics)
The Zookeeper's Wife (other topics)
If the plan is a go, I would change the title of this thread to Chunksters Read-a-thon!
Also, picking a date would be necessary (a weekend I'm sure).
