She's young and unattractive. I think her pants split when she's the ring bearer? Also she has a friend who is a boy, and she makes him chocolate chip cookies. SOLVED

That Crazy April by Lila Perl Yerkow? I remember the ring bearer thing and the chocolate chip cookies, and also that her mum is a feminist and changes her surname back to her maiden name, and makes a fuss at the girl's school because she wants to do metalwork. It was a great book!
