I have read this, was another group's read, was dubious as I don't do zombies. However, I loved it, and the next book.

I read it and loved it. The Dervish House got my nr. 1 vote for Best Novel, but Feed was a very close second.

I have this queued up to read soon, hopefully starting next week. I really appreciate new spins on well-worn tropes, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this re-iteration of the zombie apocalypse plays out. I've read nothing but great feedback on this one!

Never been a huge fan of Zombie books either, one or two very notable exceptions maybe. The high praise from voices I respect in this and other groups has in this case made me buy a copy, which is now skulking in my bag as I type.

Internal mental reputations of people I've never met are on the line here. Hope it's a good one.

Kernos, I'm the same way - I don't like zombie books, and the only reason I read Feed is because I wanted to read every piece of fiction nominated for a Hugo this year. And I'm glad I did -- it's a wonderful novel. I definitely recommend giving it a try, even if zombies aren't your thing.

Almost bought this the other day as I knew it was coming up at BOTM but I, too, am not a zombie-book reader, so I will pass. But I will follow the discussion and, who knows, may be persuaded otherwise and pick it up in the future.

I don't like most zombie stories, but this is an exception. I've read it several times and will be following the discussion.

Please don't let not being into zombies put you off - I nearly did and I would have missed an excellent story. I don't want to spoil it by saying more for other readers but at least start the book and give it a couple of chapters. It is one of my best reads of the year.

Perhaps I will reconsider, though it does not seem to be available in HC. It's the start of a trilogy. Is it a stand-a-lone?

The only formats it was released in were e-book and mass market paperback, yeah. Take it up with the publisher; myself, I wish there'd been a trade paperback edition.

Anyway, it's not exactly a standalone, but it wraps up enough of the loose ends that you could probably pretend it was. The second book ends on a cliffhanger, though.

Had this one already for the Hugo nominations. Ran out of time to read it before the Hugos, but am looking forward to reading it now.

I'd like to add my voice to the people urging readers to give this book a chance even if you don't like zombies.

I am totally not a zombie fan and was very cautious when I started reading it, but it's a great book. I've been saying ever since that it's a zombie book for people who don't like zombies.

Please do give it a try.

I read it and really liked it. It is not a typical zombie novel for sure.

I was pretty disappointed with the second book in this series though. I'm hoping the third will be an improvement.

I listened to this last month on the strength of Stefan's review and I liked it quite a lot, although I, too, hate Zombies and have only watched a couple of episodes of the Walking Dead because I always end up thinking it's so unbelievable it's stupid. The audio version is very well done and enticed me into listening to #2 which name escapes me at the moment. It was not quite as good, but still good.
