Okay, I got it downloaded to my iPod/Touch, but it is in a gazillion little files and they all have numbers I haven't figured out yet. If worse comes to worse, I can listen to it on my computer... that one is staightforward. But, of course, it would expire in 21 days. Maybe I can figure out the numbering system.

Regina is kindly helping me with my gazillion little files/tracks. If I get that fixed, then I won't have a time limit. I have faith in her... even if she is trying to explain things over the internet. ☺
Thanks for the get well card and sentiments guys. Feeling better at the moment and finally able to get out of bed and not feel nauseous. I went to the doctor and they gave me a pain shot. I'll probably be miserable again tomorrow. Too bad I couldn't take a couple extra home with me. I need my stomach to settle and the pain gone for a while. I lost 10 pounds. I don't recommend this form of dieting, however.
Okay, bad news/good news.Bad news: I couldn't get the WMA audio to download from my library OD Console to my iPod/Touch. Regina helped me so much, but alas, I think I need to contact someone at the library.
Good new: I found the CDs at a library in the city next to mine. I checked them out and I am sucessfully downloading them to my iPod as I type. (I hope! Fingers crossed; however, trial test worked.) Still, it is 38 discs so it may take me a couple of days, LOL!
But, not to fear about my checkout date expiring. So, we are good for when ever Lisarenee is feeling better. (I hope you are!) I'm up to my neck in buddy reads, so no rush on my part.
I am feeling better. Does this weekend sound like a good time to start? I still need to divide the chapters and finish logging the page numbers.
Yeah! Download of CDs was sucessful. I'm ready and the week-end is fine. I hope you are in the pink 110% by then, Lisarenee.
Also, you can randomly assign days for me to create questions.Looking forward to returning to Westeros!
Okay, I think I'll wait until Monday to try reducing pain medication. Was a little late taking it this morning and wasn't feeling so great.
I woke up with massive headache that isn't going away, but I can still read, just a bit slower. Plus went back to bed after taking ibuprofen and didn't wake up again till 10. Will probably get questions up around 2 or 3. Sorry. I'm over half way through the reading. Planned to finish reading when I woke up.
FYI I forgot to take my muscle relaxer last night so maybe they're right about this being a muscle related problem.
Questions for Epilogue - Chapter 3 (Jon)1) So we finally learn about the wilding killed by Jon in the third book(I think it was the third book). The one we were all sure had turned into an eagle when he died. He is a warg and wargs are skin changers. Able to go from one animal or person to another, thereby able to live indefinitely. What do you think of Lump?
2) Do you think all the Stark siblings are Wargs or only some? Could this mean Sansa could transfer into someone else? We've already seen Bran do it.
3) Tyrion is alive and drinking. Do you think he was starting to get suicidal? Do you think that is why he picked the mushrooms? Do you think serving mushrooms to Tyrion was clever of Illyrio?
4) Thoughts on what Magister Illyrio would use Tyrion for?
5) Do you think Tysha and Tyrion will ever get back together? Can he find her? If she is alive would he still be married to her. If so, does that mean his marriage to Sansa is no longer legit?
6) Yay! Dany's back. How do you think she's faring so far as a ruler?
7) What did you think of the bones the man presented her? Could her dragons have killed a child or are they being framed?
8) This chapter really confused me. This seems to be taking place before the end of the last book. Looks like we'll get a glimpse of what really went on in Jon's brain before he sent Gilly off with the wrong baby.
9) What do you think of Melisandre's interest in Jon Snow? What did you think of her last comment--"Then you know nothing, Jon Snow"?
Sorry guys I actually attempted to post the questions hours ago. I hit the post button and the little thing did a circular saving arrow. I just noticed the darn thing was still on the screen and the little arrow thing was still circling. It never posted.
Lisa Kay’s Answers to Lisarenee’s Questions for Prologue - Chapter 3 (Jon) 1) So we finally learn about the wilding killed by Jon in the third book (I think it was the third book). The one we were all sure had turned into an eagle when he died. He is a warg and wargs are skin changers. Able to go from one animal or person to another, thereby able to live indefinitely. What do you think of Lump?
Ick. Varamyr Sixskins/Lump has gone over to the “dark side” hasn’t he? LOL! It was like he was trying to justify the things he did b/c they are not as bad as Haggon. I was glad Thistles got away – until her fate was to become a Wight. So GRRM is up to it again. Nobody to cheer for. Okay, I’m back on track.
2) Do you think all the Stark siblings are Wargs or only some? Could this mean Sansa could transfer into someone else? We've already seen Bran do it.
I don’t know. I think they are all wargs, but we’ll see. I hope Sansa can turn into a bird and fly out of there.
3) Tyrion is alive and drinking. Do you think he was starting to get suicidal? Do you think that is why he picked the mushrooms? Do you think serving mushrooms to Tyrion was clever of Illyrio?
LOL! Yes, he certainly is. He is going to pickle his liver b/f he finds Tysha. That is probably why he picked the ‘rooms. Hmmm. I don’t know!
4) Thoughts on what Magister Illyrio would use Tyrion for?
Not sure, but he is in the thick of it. Makes me more convinced he was one of the men down in the bowels of Kings Crossing when Arya got lost. What is he up to?
5) Do you think Tysha and Tyrion will ever get back together? Can he find her? If she is alive would he still be married to her. If so, does that mean his marriage to Sansa is no longer legit?
Well, he is sure trying to track her down! Good question about the legality of his marriage to Sansa. Or was Tywin smart enough to invalidate that?
6) Yay! Dany's back. How do you think she's faring so far as a ruler?
I think she is going to have a trying time of it with Meereen – her work there is not done, it seems. She is going to be under much more pressure. Too many King Solomon decisions.
7) What did you think of the bones the man presented her? Could her dragons have killed a child or are they being framed?
Maybe/probably. I don’t know; they are dragons!
8) This chapter really confused me. This seems to be taking place before the end of the last book. Looks like we'll get a glimpse of what really went on in Jon's brain before he sent Gilly off with the wrong baby.
Yes, GRRM is backtracking a bit. Glad we will get to see that.
9) What do you think of Melisandre's interest in Jon Snow? What did you think of her last comment--"Then you know nothing, Jon Snow"?
Well, I don’t trust her! I have never liked her. Well, you know who those words reminded me of, right? Wasn’t it you, Lisarenee, that got sick of that statement when Ygritte kept saying it? Or was it Sandy? I think her fire reading skills are going to be like a tabloid newspaper – only a grain of truth.
Okay, I'm fortifying myself with several books to combat this one, LOL. One just too, too sweet – so much so it might be boring – and another which is a supposedly funny romance.
I'm probably going to be a little late with this one. Had a bunch of stuff come up today and interrupt my reading. Can anyone else do questions today?
I can do them today, Lisarenee. I haven't finished listening yet. I have a chapter and a half to go. I don't know how great they'll be. Unsure of some of the spellings of the names, and my mind drifted a bit, but I'll give it a go.
Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 4 (Bran) – Chapter 7 (Jon)
10. Pitiable Bran and his little group. Ghastly weather! And starvation. Terrible way to die. Is Jojen going to make it? And what about Summer’s non-healing wound? How do you feel about Bran warging into Hodor? Poor Hodor is so confused. Anyway, Bran seems to have a better grasp of which reality he is “in” – as it were.
11. What do you think of Coldhands and his spying ravens? Did you expect more indignation out of Bran about the dead followers being men in black? If they were Night’s Watch, who were they? Does anyone still think Coldhands could be Benjen Stark? Meera believes Coldhands is lying to them. Does this bode ill? What about his reveal that his master is the Three-Eyes-Crow – or rather “the last Greenseer.” That he is “Bran’s monster”?
12. So, is the old one-eyed wolf Varamyr Sixskins, from the prologue? If so, what does this mean for Bran? And, will Varamyr be able to warg out of that wolf or is he hopelessly lost in there now?
13. The wolves eating human flesh grossed me out, but I was trying to figure out the identity of the human corpse with the sword in one hand and a leather bound stump for the other. Who was that?
14. Illyrio tells Tyrion about how he and Varys became friends. Did he share everything? Was he truthful? What did you think when learning that paranoid Mad King Aerys is the one who recruited Varys and his little “mice”?
15. Illyrio has piqued Tyrion’s curiosity about Daenerys, but now he is not revealing much. Did you believe him when he said he didn’t expect Dany to survive the Dothraki? Does that imply his plans for her were not a long ranging as I believed? If he is telling the truth, then for whom is all this political maneuvering?
16. This trusted advisor Illyrio speak of, Griff, is really Jon Connington, the former Hand of the King and boyhood friend of Rhaegar Targaryen. Can Tyrion trust him?
17. What did you make of the story of King Hugor Hill? Are there more dragon eggs in Dragonstone? Or some other hidden treasures? If so, what?
18. Man-oh-man! It seems a lot of men want to marry Dany. Do they want her or her dragons, remains the eternal question? What do you think of Quentyn Martell? He is Prince Oberyn Martell’s nephew, right? Given his problems with females, not to mention Dany’s desire to remain single, do you predict he will be successful in his pursuit of Dany’s hand?
19. Did your perception of Quentyn change any after he was in agreement with Gerris about defecting from the Windlblown after signing on?
20. WTH? Why was Jon Snow so harsh with Gilly? Does it take this to “kill the boy” – as Maester Aemon advised – in order to make him into an effective Lord Commander?
21. I must admit, I did like the hanging cum execution of Janos. But what of the Melisandre’s warnings of hidden foes? Should Jon Snow have sent Giant away?
22. Well, King Stannis doesn’t want to listen to Jon Snow in any way, shape, or manner. Can Jon continue to put off signing that paper? For how long? Comments?
22. A bit of overlap here with Sam; still, will they be able to find Valyrian steel elsewhere? Ah! Maybe in Dragonstone?
I am behind already! Busy weekend helping the neighbors with painting and visiting a friend's baby in the hospital. Hope to catch up by tomorrow!Questions for Prologue - Chapter 3 (Jon)
1) So we finally learn about the wilding killed by Jon in the third book(I think it was the third book). The one we were all sure had turned into an eagle when he died. He is a warg and wargs are skin changers. Able to go from one animal or person to another, thereby able to live indefinitely. What do you think of Lump?
I think he does what he has to to survive, but it's hard to have sympathy for him. So, when he took over Thistle's body, was she attacked by the others?
2) Do you think all the Stark siblings are Wargs or only some? Could this mean Sansa could transfer into someone else? We've already seen Bran do it.
I think they all have some ability to commune with animals. I wonder if Sansa hasn't found her talent or maybe her talent is nonexistent because Lady is dead?
3) Tyrion is alive and drinking. Do you think he was starting to get suicidal? Do you think that is why he picked the mushrooms? Do you think serving mushrooms to Tyrion was clever of Illyrio? I think he is full of self-loathing and self-pity, but not suicidal. I think it was clever of Illyrio b/c it made Tyrion realize how much he wants to live.
4) Thoughts on what Magister Illyrio would use Tyrion for? Sounds like he wants him to put his support behind Dani.
5) Do you think Tysha and Tyrion will ever get back together? Can he find her? If she is alive would he still be married to her. If so, does that mean his marriage to Sansa is no longer legit? At this point, I have serious doubts that Tysha will ever enter the picture again.
6) Yay! Dany's back. How do you think she's faring so far as a ruler? I think she's doing well, considering her age and all she has been through, not to mention the opposition she is facing.
7) What did you think of the bones the man presented her? Could her dragons have killed a child or are they being framed? I do think the dragons could have killed a child.
8) This chapter really confused me. This seems to be taking place before the end of the last book. Looks like we'll get a glimpse of what really went on in Jon's brain before he sent Gilly off with the wrong baby. Yep, this is before Gilly/Sam went off.
9) What do you think of Melisandre's interest in Jon Snow? What did you think of her last comment--"Then you know nothing, Jon Snow"? I worry that she knew he was planning to switch the babies. I wonder if she could "see" him and Ygritte together in the past.
@ Sandy#1 - I don't think Lump was sucessful at taking over Thistle's body, was he? She fought him off, but was turned into a waith (spelling?).
#3 - I do think Illyrio was trying to make Tyrion think (goodness, I didn't like where Tyrion was going - turning into an a$$hat), but I think Tyrion was "toying" with sucide... but this snapped him out of it.
#4 - Yup.
#5 - Awww. But, you are probably right. GRRM likes to tease me.
#9 - Hmmm. Now that's an interesting thought about Ygritte. I didn't think of that.
@LisaKay#1 You're right he was not successful at taking over the body. I am wondering what exactly killed her, though. The attempted possession? did she kill herself? Did an Other/Wight get her? She had been trying to get him to get up and leave when he tried to take over her body, so were the "hundreds" of Others/Wights that close? I didn't think this was clarified.
#5 Yes, he does like to tease the reader! I don't think he wants to give Tyrion a HEA either. I am really bummed because for the longest time Tyrion was my favorite character. Now, not so much!
Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 4 (Bran) – Chapter 7 (Jon)10.
Well, if I had to place a bet, I would say that Jojen is not going to make it. GRRM has killed my optimism! I think Bran's warging into Hodor is extremely disturbing. You're right, Bran has a good handle on things.
Maybe the dead followers were the ones who died at Craster's? Not sure. If Coldhands is Benjen Stark (or anyone else friendly for that matter) how is it that he still has retained his "friendliness?" Seems that when someone is made into a Wight/Other that they lose their humanity and just operate on animal instincts. I am not sure what Coldhands is up to. He could be lying, but I hope not. I hope we meet the "monster" in this book. I am tired of waiting for stuff to happen!
12. So, is the old one-eyed wolf Varamyr Sixskins, from the prologue? If so, what does this mean for Bran? And, will Varamyr be able to warg out of that wolf or is he hopelessly lost in there now? Yes, I do think it is Varymyr. I think he can no longer be a man ("His wolves would save him, he told himself. That was his last thought as a man."--Prologue) but I am not sure if he can slip between animals. The laws of warging are still unknown to me!
13. The wolves eating human flesh grossed me out, but I was trying to figure out the identity of the human corpse with the sword in one hand and a leather bound stump for the other. Who was that? I don't know, but it probably is someone we should know.
14. Illyrio tells Tyrion about how he and Varys became friends. Did he share everything? Was he truthful? What did you think when learning that paranoid Mad King Aerys is the one who recruited Varys and his little “mice”? If he's anything like Varys, I'm sure he has more secrets. I wasn't sure that it was the Mad King, thanks for clarifying!
Yes, I do believe he didn't expect Dany to survive the Dothraki. Varys could be behind all of it. For all I know, Littlefinger has his finger in it too.
16. This trusted advisor Illyrio speak of, Griff, is really Jon Connington, the former Hand of the King and boyhood friend of Rhaegar Targaryen. Can Tyrion trust him? Hand of which king? Didn't the Mad King kill his Hands?
I think they want the dragons, and by extension, her power. I don't think Quentyn will win Dany's hand. I am wondering about the mentioned agreement that he would marry her. Does he have this in writing? Why would Dany believe it?
He had to be harsh to make her take the other baby and leave her own. Jon genuinely wants to save both children. He had to threaten her son in order to make her comply. He did what he had to do.
21. I must admit, I did like the hanging cum execution of Janos. But what of the Melisandre’s warnings of hidden foes? Should Jon Snow have sent Giant away? I liked it too. Jon really showed them who was in charge. I have to remember he is just a teenager!
22. Well, King Stannis doesn’t want to listen to Jon Snow in any way, shape, or manner. Can Jon continue to put off signing that paper? For how long? Comments? I am not sure why he won't sign it. He is committed to helping guard the Wall, not to helping Stannis win the throne.
22. A bit of overlap here with Sam; still, will they be able to find Valyrian steel elsewhere? Ah! Maybe in Dragonstone? They need to find it somewhere, and fast!
Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 4 (Bran) – Chapter 7 (Jon) 10.
Seems like they're not going to make it. I keep wondering if cold hands is the missing uncle? The missing Stark. Can't think of his name.
Yes, as I stated above I think it's Benjen. I don't know what to think about coldhands lying.
12. So, is the old one-eyed wolf Varamyr Sixskins, from the prologue? If so, what does this mean for Bran? And, will Varamyr be able to warg out of that wolf or is he hopelessly lost in there now?
I don't know. Gah!
13. The wolves eating human flesh grossed me out, but I was trying to figure out the identity of the human corpse with the sword in one hand and a leather bound stump for the other. Who was that?
I do not know. It couldn't be Jaime could it????
14. Illyrio tells Tyrion about how he and Varys became friends. Did he share everything? Was he truthful? What did you think when learning that paranoid Mad King Aerys is the one who recruited Varys and his little “mice”?
I thought of all those mice in the last book. I think he did a great deal of sharing but not of everything.
I don't know.
16. This trusted advisor Illyrio speak of, Griff, is really Jon Connington, the former Hand of the King and boyhood friend of Rhaegar Targaryen. Can Tyrion trust him?
I don't know.
A three headed dragon?
I don't think he will be successful and I think the ment like the whole package that comes with Dany,
19. Did your perception of Quentyn change any after he was in agreement with Gerris about defecting from the Windlblown after signing on?
No.
20. WTH? Why was Jon Snow so harsh with Gilly? Does it take this to “kill the boy” – as Maester Aemon advised – in order to make him into an effective Lord Commander?
I don't know.
21. I must admit, I did like the hanging cum execution of Janos. But what of the Melisandre’s warnings of hidden foes? Should Jon Snow have sent Giant away?
What happened to Jon? Maybe it needed to be done to keep others in line?
22. Well, King Stannis doesn’t want to listen to Jon Snow in any way, shape, or manner. Can Jon continue to put off signing that paper? For how long? Comments?
I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.
23. A bit of overlap here with Sam; still, will they be able to find Valyrian steel elsewhere? Ah! Maybe in Dragonstone?
It will be interesting to find out.
Sorry I got behind guys. I'm chairing an PTA event for my kids school that was supposed to be easy, but is proving to be anything but and the work falls mainly on me. It's kind of skewed my reading time. I'll try to post the next set of questions shortly.
No problem! My reading time has been impaired due to the Rangers being in the World Series! I try to read during commercials but then the kids want my attention. :-)
Also, for some unknown reason I volunteered to plan my daughter's class Halloween party. Don't know what I was thinking.... LOL
Well at least you didn't volunteer to chair a Reflections art contest. I can't believe all the rules associated with it. It's driving me crazy trying to get signatures and the like.
Questions for Chapters 8 (Tyrion) - 11 (Daenerys024) Well now we know what they want Tyrion for. Do you think he'd help Dany against his own family? He does still seem to hold a grudge, but would he totally betray them?
25) We're starting to learn about the Dance of Dragons and now know where the book gets its name. What do you think of about the tale? Do we truly have the full picture of what happened yet?
26) Could Stannis trust the Three Sisters? I believe that is what Davis is trying to do--form an alliance with them or keep them loyal? I'm a bit confused about what is happening in Davos' chapter.-
27) Do you think Stannis can win the wildlings to his cause?
28) That darn Dornish song is back. Why? There must be some significance to it.
29)What do you think of the horn being burned and Mance being killed?
30) Seems like Jon is having second thoughts about taking Stannis up on his offer to take his father's name and lands.
31) Being in charge of the wall seems like a lonely position.
32) Do you think Dany will open the fighting pits?
33) What do you think she'll do about her dragons? What do you think she should do?
Questions for Chapters 8 (Tyrion) - 11 (Daenerys024) Well now we know what they want Tyrion for. Do you think he'd help Dany against his own family? He does still seem to hold a grudge, but would he totally betray them?
I believe at this point Tyrion has nothing to lose. I have no doubt that he would betray Cersei, but I have trouble believing he would betray Jaime, despite the whole Tysha ordeal. At least Jaime has treated him with kindness during his life, and also Jaime set him free from a certain death.
25) We're starting to learn about the Dance of Dragons and now know where the book gets its name. What do you think of about the tale? Do we truly have the full picture of what happened yet?
I don't think we know everything about it yet.
26) Could Stannis trust the Three Sisters? I believe that is what Davis is trying to do--form an alliance with them or keep them loyal? I'm a bit confused about what is happening in Davos' chapter.- I am confused too, and to be honest, I didn't really care about what was happening when I read this chapter. It sounded like Sallador Saan abandoned his support of Stannis but let Davos hitch a ride with him. Davos then, what, jumped off the ship and was caught in Sweetsister while trying to make his way to White Harbor? It sounds like Godric will let him go, but Godric is straddling the fence between Tommen and Stannis. So, Davos is on his way to see Manderley who, we learned in the last book, killed Davos, right??
27) Do you think Stannis can win the wildlings to his cause? Hard to say. They are set in their ways, and they prefer electing their leaders.
28) That darn Dornish song is back. Why? There must be some significance to it. Not sure, but the Dornishmen are trying to team up with Dani to win back the throne.
29)What do you think of the horn being burned and Mance being killed? Both events were very significant for the Wildlings. Shows them in no uncertain terms that the Southern rulers are stronger (at least for now).
30) Seems like Jon is having second thoughts about taking Stannis up on his offer to take his father's name and lands. He is a very great responsibility. It would have been easier for him to take up the offer, but his conscience would not accept it.
31) Being in charge of the wall seems like a lonely position. Agree.
32) Do you think Dany will open the fighting pits? It sounds like there are those who want to fight, so perhaps she will open them on condition that no one is forced to fight.
33) What do you think she'll do about her dragons? What do you think she should do? Oh, man this is a tough one. Those are her babies and they are out of control. No one told her how to tame her dragons! Maybe Tyrion (who is highly educated and very well-read) will be the one who will tame her dragons for her!
Sandy answered "What do you think she'll do about her dragons? What do you think she should do?"with
"Oh, man this is a tough one. Those are her babies and they are out of control. No one told her how to tame her dragons! Maybe Tyrion (who is highly educated and very well-read) will be the one who will tame her dragons for her! "
I hadn't thought of that. That would be awesome. Oh I hope that is where this is going. He could probably already ride one.
Lisa Kay Answers to Lisarenee’s Questions for Chapters 8 (Tyrion) - 11 (Daenerys) 24) Well now we know what they want Tyrion for. Do you think he'd help Dany against his own family? He does still seem to hold a grudge, but would he totally betray them?
I don’t know! (I think I’ll be saying that a lot.) However, I agree about Sandy about Tyrion’s feelings for Cersei and Jaime; I think when it comes down to it, he won’t betray Jaime.
25) We're starting to learn about the Dance of Dragons and now know where the book gets its name. What do you think of about the tale? Do we truly have the full picture of what happened yet?
No, there is more to tell. Very interesting, though.
26) Could Stannis trust the Three Sisters? I believe that is what Davos is trying to do--form an alliance with them or keep them loyal? I'm a bit confused about what is happening in Davos' chapter.
I’ll make that three of us confused. My mind wandered a bit and I had to re-wind the audio. Salladhor Saan gave Davos a choice – go with him to Essos or take a small row boat; he chose the small boat. While I’m glad Davos is not dead, as Cersei was told, and he is not in White Harbor, I wouldn’t want to be in Sweetsister; horrid place. Not only was Davos updated on recent events (Lysa Arryn dead, Lord Tywin dead, Tyrion escaped) there was a lot of info about Robert’s Rebellion and I don’t believe Eddard Stark was of that character – so that is par for the course with GRRM > truth and lies.
Wait! Just read Sandy’s answer… I thought he was safe; so he could still die by Manderly’s hand? Drat! See, I’m getting confused on the timeline. I wish GRRM hadn’t done it this way.
27) Do you think Stannis can win the wildlings to his cause?
I don’t think he can, unless Jon Snow helps him out tons and tons here. I thought he rather arrogant with all the, “I am king and you’ll kneel if I say.” I don’t think having them burn weirwood branches and giving them some soup is going to make them trust Stannis.
28) That darn Dornish song is back. Why? There must be some significance to it.
LOL! I know!
29) What do you think of the horn being burned and Mance being killed?
That sucks. I don’t think that will endear Stannis to the wildlings. As an aside, why does GRRM always have his “heroes” denounce all they hold dear when their end is near? He did this with Eddard Stark, now again with Mance Rayder.
30) Seems like Jon is having second thoughts about taking Stannis up on his offer to take his father's name and lands.
Interesting, that. Speaking of titles, did you notice that Bowen Marsh never calls Stannis “king” – but “lord”? Is Jon Snow missing the small details – and will that be his downfall?
31) Being in charge of the wall seems like a lonely position.
True.
32) Do you think Dany will open the fighting pits?
Maybe. I like Sandy’s idea.
33) What do you think she'll do about her dragons? What do you think she should do?
I don’t know. I really don’t like what GRRM has done with Dany’s character here. I waded through AfoC to get to her chapters and this is what I get? I like what Sandy said; maybe well-read Tyrion will be able to advise her. Do you think Drogon will come back? Hmmm… maybe not in this book but a later one? When Dany herself gets some control.
And what about all those prophecies by Quaithe?
Lisa Kay wrote, "Wait! Just read Sandy’s answer… I thought he was safe; so he could still die by Manderly’s hand? Drat! See, I’m getting confused on the timeline. @ Sandy#16 Jon Connington: (from Wiki Ice)
Lord Jon Connington, Lord of Griffin's Roost, was the head of House Connington and for a time Hand of the King. He was one of the few close friends of Rhaegar Targaryen. He had no brothers.
Jon Connington is the only surving son of Armond Connington, Lord of Griffin's Roost, and his wife. He served as a squire in King's Landing together with Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. He danced with Ashara Dayne at the Tourney at Harrenhal. He was unhorsed at a tourney held at Storm's End by Ser Barristan Selmy.
Because of his connection with the royal family, and because he was a noted warrior, Aerys II chose him as Hand of the King after the dismissal of Owen Merryweather. Aerys wanted someone young and vigorous to match Robert's youth and vigor. After the Battle of Ashford, Connington took over the pursuit of Robert Baratheon from the Tyrell army. In the Riverlands, near the town of Stoney Sept, he caught up with Robert, who was hiding in the town. Connington's soldiers began a house-to-house search. Then Robert Baratheon's allies arrived at Stoney Sept.
At this point the Battle of the Bells began. The rebel army under the joint command of Eddard Stark, Jon Arryn and Hoster Tully immediately began attacking the royal army. Connington fought back fiercely. He personally killed Arryn's nephew and heir, Denys Arryn, and wounded Lord Tully. In spite of his bravery, Connington could not prevent a defeat, but still was able to retreat in good order.
Connington could easily have had Stoney Sept surrounded and then set the whole town ablaze, killing Robert (and ending the rebellion) before the relief force of Eddard Stark and Hoster Tully could even arrive; however, doing so would have meant the deaths of the innocent men, women and children of the town, so Connington choose not to go down that path.
King Aerys held Connington responsible for the defeat and exiled him, stripping the house of its lands, wealth and titles. Connington while in exile joined the Golden Company and served there for several years, it was said he was kicked out though after he was caught attempting to steal from the Company war chests. It was said that Connington drank himself to death a year later.
Questions for Chapters 12 (Reek) through Chapter 15 (Davos)May I just say that I miss Brienne, Jamie and Cersei?
34. Did anyone suspect the real identify of “Reek” in this chapter?
35. This chapter was really high on the “ick” factor. Do you think Theon/Reek has gone crazy? Do you think he has gotten what he deserved? It’s hard to remember everything he did, but taking over Winterfell and killing innocent boys no doubt deserves some sort of consequence. Has he been punished enough?
36. Do you think Lord Ramsay has good intentions toward Reek, considering the hell he has put him through? Why do you think he asked Reek to be his wedding attendant?
37. Oh my! When the fake Arya arrives, will Reek rat her out or hold his tongue?
38. The Ranger tells Bran & co. that the caves are warded so the wights cannot pass. Meer asks him, “What about you?” He answers, “The cave is warded” implying he cannot pass either. So, we have suspected up until now that this person is not human, now we know for sure. We just don’t know what he is exactly. Not a wight, surely?
39. Bran enters Hodor’s body to fight the wights. This didn’t bother me as much as the time he entered Hodor before. What did you think?
40. Thoughts on the Little Woman and the Greenseer? Is she really more than 200 years old?
41. Any idea why the Greenseer has been watching Bran his whole life? When he says Bran will fly, does he mean on dragons? I hope so! I can totally see Bran and Tyrion riding the dragons!
42. In Tyrion’s chapter, he thinks a lot about history, especially about dragons. I suspect it could be foreshadowing that he’ll play a role with Dany and her dragons. They better get a move on. This book is already dragging! 10 pages of Tyrion eating biscuits and watching a naked septa swim. Must we wait until the next book for Tyrion to meet Dany?
43. When the giant turtle makes an appearance, Tyrion thinks Gods and wonders always appear to attend the birth of kings. What does this mean? Does he think someone on their boat will be a King? Is there a King being born somewhere? I felt this could be significant but I had no idea what it meant. (Incidentally, I am still holding on to hope that Dany’s baby is still alive somewhere).
44. Well, Davos is on his way to see Manderley. *sigh* BUT….just maybe… Cersei was lying about Manderley killing Davos, or she was misinformed. Interesting to hear how people are talking about Dany and her dragons.
Sandy asked, "When the fake Arya arrives, will Reek rat her out or hold his tongue?"Interesting choice of words there. lol
