MashJ | 733 comments I hope I've put this one in the right place! Many apologies that I haven't been around for a while and as I'm off to ireland tomorrow for ten days cycling I'll be absent for a little longer.

Anyhow I have read two romance books with thieves in them recently and was wondering if you know of any more?

message 2: by MashJ (last edited Sep 22, 2011 02:04PM) (new)

MashJ | 733 comments one is The Devil to Pay (Machlachlan, #1) by Liz Carlyle

the other All Through the Night by Connie Brockway

message 3: by Shelly (new)

Shelly (shellye77) I'm interested too! I've read a few contemporary romances with heroes who are thieves, but not a HR. I'll have to look into those.

message 4: by Zumbagirl (new)

Zumbagirl | 90 comments If Tomorrow Comes - this is not a romance book. But it was very exciting and I think there was a love story, but that wasn't the main part of the book. Heroine is not a petty thief, but a very sophisticated one. It's Sidney Sheldon and may shock your socks off

message 6: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments The only HR that comes to mind is Lady of Desire (Knight Miscellany Series #4) by Gaelen Foley .

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Off the top of my head:

The Smoke Thief (Drakon, #1) by Shana Abé The Dream Thief (Drakon, #2) by Shana Abé The Devil to Pay (Machlachlan, #1) by Liz Carlyle (<--already mentioned, but it's good) The Prisoner (Orphan, #1) by Karyn Monk My Favorite Thief by Karyn Monk His Favorite Mistress by Tracy Anne Warren Every Whispered Word by Karyn Monk The Charade by Laura Lee Guhrke

The ultimate thief: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Stolen Charms (Winter Garden, #1) by Adele Ashworth
Once Upon A Scandal (Once Upon Scandal) by Barbara Dawson Smith

Does it have to be historical?

Catspaw by Anne Stuart
Catspaw II (Harlequin Intrigue, No 103) (Harlequin Intrigue, No 103) by Anne Stuart
Night And Day (Harlequin Intrigue, No. 637) by Anne Stuart

I think they are a band of thieves

Lady Gallant by Suzanne Robinson

MashJ | 733 comments Oh thank you everyone, I'll look up your suggestions- I'm back (with buns of steel) from my cycling round Ireland and ready to read for the autumn.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Good for you, Mshj! How was the weather?

I love Ireland...where did go while there?

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) I'm visiting Ireland right now:) Dublin is very nice but I only get one day to visit the countryside and thought of going to Kilkenny, since I need something that's not too far and has a rail station. Any other ideas?

message 13: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments The weather was a bit mixed (but it's Ireland so we were expecting that and had all of our wet weather gear). Sorry Fani- I was on the wrong side (on the West) but would recommendgoing over to the West coast if you have the opportunity. We were in Calre, Galway (Connemara) and Mayo and it was all lovely.

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura (filoviridae) | 783 comments The west coast was definitely my favorite part, too!

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) I went to Wexford- east coast- after all:( I read in internet that the train ride was very scenic and it turned out they were right. I wish I had time to go to the west side though; I've heard it's the best part of Ireland.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Just finished Danger's Kiss by Sarah McKerrigan , which was pretty good. The heroine is a trained thief.

Thanks Lisa Kay, I will check it out.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments So, Mshj, which book did you read for your thief challenge? I just re-listened to Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas , and Bea (technically) qualifies as a thief.

message 19: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Good point, it wasn't a challenge, I just enjoy the edginess of the thief thing. I am probably just a girl in pants fan.

message 20: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Ah! Got it.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Reading one right now where the hero & heroine are not thieves per se, but run shennanigans to take money from people. I'm almost done and it's very very good, it's called Crooked Hearts by Patricia Gaffney .

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments To Love a Thief by Julie Anne Long

One of my favorite books ever: To Love a Thief by Julie Anne Long. Heroine is caught pick pocketing by sexy barrister and agrees to pose as his friend's cousin to make the woman he wants to marry jealous but of course it doesn't end there... I think it is her second book, written before the Pennyroyal Green-series.

message 23: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Oh, thanks, Susanne! To Love a Thief by Julie Anne Long is also a Pygmalion theme book, which I LOVE. And, it is only 99¢ on Amazon right now. ☺

message 24: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Btw Lady Gallant that you mentioned was a shed load of fun. Very well done and different in style to a cookie cutter historical romance. gazooks codpieces!!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments **snortsnort** LMAO, Susanne!

message 29: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Oh, added one I thought of!

message 30: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Uh oh... a bit of a warning on The Charm School . . . (view spoiler)

message 31: by S (new)

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments Lol! A quick Q: Can I read Minx as a standalone novel or should I pick up the other in the Splendid series first?

message 32: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Oh, dear! I've forgotten, Susanne, LOL! Maybe someone else would be better at answering that. I know I read them in order; however, my gut/first response was to say it didn't matter. (Geez... I hope I don't get run out of GoodReads on a rail for that! LOL!)

message 33: by S (new)

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments That's my gut response too. I'll double check but I can promise you that there will be no running involved whatsoever ;-) I'll probably try to read them in order anyway, I don't want to repeat the Wallflower debacle when I messed up the order and read DiW first but IMHO that seems to have been an extreme case - most historicals are far less related than LK series.

message 34: by Lisa Kay (last edited Mar 26, 2012 09:05PM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments True. A lot of times the author will just have past characters in a walk-on roll, but Ms. Kleypas usually does NOT do that. Neither does Mary Balogh.

message 35: by Susan (new)

Susan Gorman | 400 comments Susanne--I read Minx before the others in this series. Not a big deal. There are characters that have a walk on role from the earlier Splendid books, but the book can be enjoyed on it's own.
However, if you decide to read JQ's Bridgertons series ~I'd read those in order as they are "related".
I read LK's Hathaway series out of order-last book first!

message 36: by S (new)

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments Tnx Susan! I think you guys have convinced me - I'll pick Minx up before getting into the rest of the series. I actually put it in my April BYOC so now I have to read it soon :-)

message 37: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Some great new additions here! I have one to add too:

My Lord and Spymaster (The Spymaster's Lady, #3) by Joanna Bourne

Joanna Bourne,
My Lord and spymaster, highly recommended.

message 38: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Another great thief book:

Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison

message 39: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments I just wanted to say that I have been regularly revisiting this thread to pick up new books with one of my fave themes! Thank you all.

message 40: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Thief of Shadows (Maiden Lane, #4) by Elizabeth Hoyt

New one to add. Very enjoyable although having had a pirate and a thief phase I am currently enjoying some westerns!

ᑭᑌᑎƳᗩ [Punya Reviews...] (sadeyes) | 241 comments I just finished Captured by Victoria Lynne and this might fit into this category. The heroine is a con artist (thief, pick pocket, cheat etc.). There is also an interesting secondary character, the person who trained her. Overall, a lovely book. :)

message 42: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments Thank you. Got to say a fabian cover makes me hesitate!!

ᑭᑌᑎƳᗩ [Punya Reviews...] (sadeyes) | 241 comments Lol, it's been re-released this year and the new cover is much improved. Check this link out: Captured. The author is generally quite good and the hero of this one was worth a fabian cover IMO. :p

message 44: by MashJ (new)

MashJ | 733 comments I need to add a new one by Anne Mallory.

Daring the Duke (Lords of Intrigue, #2) by Anne Mallory

message 45: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ong | 1 comments my favourite romance book of all time is by my favourite romance author of all time Anne Mallory. Her latest two are One Night Is Never Enough (Secrets, #2) by Anne Mallory and In Total Surrender (Secrets, #3) by Anne Mallory . Coincidentally they're both about thieves and are absolutely capturing.

Phoenix (Online Elf) | 425 comments Thanks, Alicia. Good to know.
