Re-make of the Movie

I absolutely loved the original movie. I have watched the series over and over. I don't know how to feel about the americanized re-make. What do you think?

I love the books, and I love the Swedish movies! They are awesome! And yes, Rapace was excellent as Lisbeth--still my favorite literary character!

I have great reservations about the American re-make. I read there are quite a number of changes including the ending. I don't know how true this is, but I still have my doubts. Nothing will outdo the Swedish versions.

SIDENOTE: Noomi Rapace was so awesome as Lisbeth Salander, it makes me excited and anxious to see her in the next Sherlock Holmes movie!

SIDENOTE: Michael Nyqvist was great as Mikael Blomkvist, I'm eager to see how he does in Abduction and the next Mission: Impossible movies.

I am amazed that people did not like the Swedish versions of the books. I thought they managed to come very close to my visualization of the story and the characters. The actors were so close to my vision of them. This said, I will see the American version. I saw the extended trailer at a recent film showing and it looked really good although the American version of Salander is a little disappointing to me.

I loved Michael Nyqvist in the Swedish version (mostly because he's in As It Is In Heaven, which is one of my favourite ever films)... but mostly I'm annoyed at the idea of an American remake because of this seeming arrogance of the American film industry that they can do anything better than anyone else. They remake everything... and more often than not, do a terrible job. Death At A Funeral, anyone?
Maybe this version will be much better (although I saw a picture of the new Lisbeth Salander and thought she looks nothing like the Lisbeth Salander I imagined), but I'll probably not end up watching it purely because this whole remake thing annoys me. Which is probably stupid of me, but whatever.

By the looks of the trailers, I think the new movie looks more close to the book than the Sweedish version. Case in point, the description of Liisbeth Salander in the book is much more close to the new actress than to the former.

It just doesn't seem necessary to re-create a film that was as good as the Swedish film, just a little redundant. But, it does offer one the chance to enjoy the story again...

movies are re-made all the time - international ones, old ones etc...I mean, why the heck are they re-doing footloose...it makes no sense to me

Im excited for the remake. Rooney Mara is in my opinion a perfect cast for Lisbeth. She just looks exactly how I invisioned her.

I really liked the art house qualities of the Swedish versions. Dark, broody etc. I was a bit suprised they were bothering a re-make so soon, but then there is £$ to be made...

We will probably go and see them but I do wonder how Hollywood will get to grips with the more "gritty" aspects of the novels...

I thought the movies followed the books pretty closely. Why do they want to re-make them? Are movie makers so unoriginal that they can't think of anything better to do than re-make existing films?

I fall into the "annoyed" camp. My wife I devoured all three books and all three films. Noomi Rapace was incomparable as Salander. Unless word-of-mouth is excellent, we won't see the new film. Hollywood has a history of butchering remakes of foreign films.

I'm not sure how I feel about the American movies coming out. Lisbeth was cast perfectly in the Swedisch movies and I'm already disappointed with her in the American ones. I say leave a good thing alone, do we really have no more good ideas that we need to start making movies again and again?

I hate that America always make their own versions of foreign movies. It's called international culture, and you should try it.

I am SO excited for the American version! The Swedish version was a big let down, but this trailer look freakin' amazing. It. looks. great.

I can't really see how you can improve on the original Swedish film. I loved all three !!

I loved the Swedish version of all three movies. I do not think they could have found a more perfect Lisbeth. I will certainly watch the American version of the film, but I can't imagine it being better.

I thought the Swedish movies were outstanding and that they followed the books pretty much. Rapace was perfect as Lisbeth and I liked the fact that Michael Nyqvist was not a pretty boy. I have seen the trailer for the American version and it is stylish. However, Hollywood has a habit of shying away from gritty harshness and providing happier endings. I do not know if I will see the new movie.

Any idea when the movie is going to released? I hope they don't intermingle the books.

I loved the books and the Swedish movies. Rapace was perfect as Lizbeth and carried the movies.

I saw all three of the Swedish versions. The story was treated well and Rapace was great though maybe a little 'hard'.

What I think the American version will bring is better cinematography, more stunning visuals. A movie is never the book, but I hope they stay close, still changes are a legitimate concern.

Fincher is a great director, particularly a great visual director, I really think there is potential.

The trailer is here ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVLvMg...

Still curious as to what others think.

Rapace was the PERFECT Lisbeth. And I love Daniel Craig but he might be a bit too good-looking for the part. So for those reasons the idea of another film version kind of annoys me.
My guess is that they will be better as movies but less faithful to the books. Which, to my mind means, why bother?

A friend of mine was telling me she saw the trailer and it looks really good....I don't know...I thought the Swedish version was excellent so not sure if I can wrap my mind around a different Lisbeth Salander.

The Swedish movies were absolutely amazing. I have no intention of watching the American remake. In fact, I met quite a few people who felt the same way. Why bother? I can't see the American version being anywhere close to the original.

I watched the origianl Swedish version and thought it was terrible. It did not even follow the book at all! In truth I do not even believe the characters matched the discriptions in the book. I was very disappointed and am hoping the newer one with Daniel Craig will be a lot better. I am so glad I read the book first because if I would have watched the movie first I would NOT have read the books at all!

I think that Hollywood will just not be able to grasp the effect the environment has on the people. Obviously an all Swedish crew got that. Will they do all their filming in Swedan?
