Maha, thanks for reading the rules! That says alot about you and wanting to do the right thing. Being active here would mean participating more often in the threads, (more than two or three posts), however you are heading down the right road.

Look forward to seeing more of you out there !!!

message 108: by Alice (new)

Alice (goodreadscomalicerene) How come there are so few posts in this group? I haven't been here for a while because I've been travelling all over the place and had no time for the computer. However, I did get a couple of books read. so, even though I'm an author and would love to do some self-promoting, I'm going to tell you about the books I've read: One was "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. I's been made into a movie, so I thought it would be a great book. Wrong! Interesting concept but weak on story line and often draggy. The other one is "Olive Kitteredge" by Elizabeth Strout. Good book! I can see why it won a Pulitzer prize. I'm just finishing it now, but can tell you the author knows how to draw a character. You can almost identify someone you know like the person she describes. It's a great read.

Next time I'll tell you about my book. Okay?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments "So few posts in this group"????

:::scratches head:::

There is a thread, by the way, about books we're currently reading. A fairly busy one, at that.

message 110: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Alice, there are hundreds of threads here at TNBBC (probably thousands of posts since you last checked?). Honestly, there's so much going on here I can't keep up with all of it! Make sure you start with the homepage.
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...

Olive Kitteridge is one of our picks for this month. We're discussing it here:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Here's a long thread with people discussing "The Road":
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

You can discuss any book you please by starting a new thread here (make sure it doesn't already have a thread):

Alice, I am little thrown by your question too. This is the largest, most active group here on Goodreads. How can there not be enough posts for you?

For the record, this folder that you post in is just for my announcements and rules for the group. It wasnt intended for actual posting. Thats what the other folders and threads are for....

message 112: by Alice (new)

Alice (goodreadscomalicerene) I am in the wrong folder! Sorry.

Hi Heather,

I meant to do this about a month ago but "my life" got away from me in the meantime: I'd love to get my book read/reviewed on your website. Is that possible?

Cheers, Alice

Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) | 20 comments I'm an avid reader who happens to be a fiction writer as well. I appear at book clubs frequently and love the concept of people talking about books. In that regard, one thing I've found book club readers ask, is what I am reading. I usually bring to my book events copies of my list of what I call under the radar books. With a small publisher myself for the first two books (the third one is just under contract with a major publisher), I don't feel the need to help promote the best sellers, not that some of them aren't worthwhile, but like the independent booksellers, I like to help lesser known authors. So ... I recommend CS Richardson's The End of the Alphabet for anyone who's looking for a good Valentine's Day cry. Happy reading.

I've so enjoyed our conversation about THE HELP and look forward to next month's discussion! Thank-you for this opportunity to tell you about my novels, which I call "great beach reads" because they're fun and have seaside settings.

LEAVE ME GASPING is the first title in a series featuring female sleuth Del Jakes. A childhood friend is missing and Del travels home to coastal Florida. In a whirlwind of clues and revelations, the sleuth and her cohorts move from a grungy marina grill to a luxurious waterfront enclave; Sound side towns to Gulf side mangrove thickets; suspicion to trust; despair to hope—and grief to love.

ESCAPING CELIA is the story of Carly O'Shea, whose long-awaited solo vacation is derailed when her mother, aunt, and relentless cousin Celia invade her seaside cottage. Stir in a snarly runaway teen, a hot guitar player, a cool Southern boy, a gun-toting matron, and a wise boardwalk barista—and you’ve got the kind of summer stew that gives everybody heartburn!

Both are available in ebook format from Amazon, Smashwords and Barnes & Noble.

For more information, please visit my website: http://www.great-beach-reads.com

The Romance Reviews (Carole) (The_Romance_Reviews) | 15 comments Hello, this is my first time to post here. My name is Carole and I've been reading books for a long time. Books are my passion so I don't expect me to get tired of reading them. Ever. Though I may need to rest once in a while between books. LOL Great to be here and be among people who love books as much as I do.

Tracy Darity (tracyldarity) | 13 comments It's never my intention to spam, I just belong to so many groups (GR's, Yahoo, FaceBook, Ning, etc) that it's hard to keep up with them all, so when I do have something to share I usually feel guilty as I try to select groups that will benefit from that information. The groups that get the most input from me are usually the ones filling one of my many inboxes on the regular. Also, a lot of times I just enjoy reading the posts and don't necessarily have anything to add.

Urgent and important to you does not equal or excuse spamming my group. There are other avenues available to you for quick answers. Live chat rooms would be a better resource than double posting in the group.

message 131: by Erik (new)

Erik Orrantia (captaineo70) | 10 comments Hello! I'm pretty new here and am sensitive to spamming...not my intention and I'll only write this once.

Cheyenne Publishing has recently released my novel Normal Miguel by Erik Orrantia about a gay student teacher from Mexico City who completes his first year of teaching in the rural hills of Mexico.

Enough said. If you're interested, you can find information on my author page. Thanks and I look forward to discussing it as well as participating in your many discussions!

Barbara Chepaitis (chepaitis) | 4 comments Thanks for this! I follow books to read on this site, but haven't participated as an author before now. I'd like to start a discussion group, perhaps for writing tips since I teach creative writing/creative thinking skills at the college level. I'll have to learn how to start a group, however!
I have 7 published novels and a new nonfiction book, Feathers of Hope. My website gives lots of info on it all, http://wildreads.com.

I agree with you, J.A. I think having fun on Saturday night with addictive substances is a slippery slope. Yes, alcohol is a problem - but not to the extent that the illegal drugs are. I've been personally acquainted with individuals who started "relaxing" with drugs and fell into an abyss where they were sleeping in ditches at night and selling bj's for $10 to strangers on the side of the raod - an abyss from which they have yet to climb out. I don't totally understand it -

I am new here but have exchanged some emails with Lori and she totally rocks. I am so glad she put up a new page on her awesome website in a quest to find readers who will review indie books because it makes total sense. The "big time" authors with "big time" publishers simply will not be affected one way or the other with some reviews, but you can totally change an indie author's life by reading his or her book, and hopefully providing some positive feedback and perhaps even encouraging others to read that indie author's work. We all buy art from indie artists. We listen to indie music. We watch indie films. Why not read indie books?

Incidentally, I have written roughly 30 books and I am not going to mention them here or now. It's just does not feel right. Perhaps someday ...

Until then, let's all keep reading and recommending indie authors because writing and reading books is one of the best ways to spend quality time.

message 141: by Matt (new)

Matt Damon | 3 comments So I think I already breached the group etiquette by making my first post about the Q&A I did on Reddit - but at least the entire book I wrote is up online for free, so maybe that counts for something.

But hey, if you guys think the Q&A sucks and adds nothing of value, feel free to ban my sorry ass to the spammers death circle - sorry for not taking more time to read the Group Rules before hastily posting!!

Yes, you are currently in the folder that is for group rules. If you look at the home page, you will see many folders with different titles that describe what type of threads you will find in them.

I am trying to promote a giveaway of a wonderful book (seriously, I stand nothing to gain by this, I'm not related to the author in any way) on my blog. Here's the link...if you want to take a chance and post to win, that's all you gotta do. Good luck!
