I finished reading The Gauguin Connection. It is possibly one of the best books I've read this year.

Now I'm going to reread an old favourite of mine: The Lion's Game

I'm halfway through Gone Girl and there isn't one of these characters I would want in my life. I'm enjoying the book, and they're holding my interest, but these people are basketcases from the starting bell on, and more than once I've asked "what in god's name do you SEE in him/her?" about just about every one.

I couldn't put the book down,but it would be hard fo find more consistently unlikeable protagonists. Every time you think you have it figured out, there's a surprise. Contrived it is, but well done. I thought it interesting how clueless her parents were. She certainly was the "Amazing Amy."

I am reading The Murder of Halland Pia Juul's thoughtful novel on love and death set in a Danish fjord. Excellent.

I'm reading The Beautiful Mystery. Oh, how I love this series! Reading about Chief Inspector Gamache and his co-workers, friends and family is like being with old friends again. I love trying to solve the mystery of "who done it" too.

I just finshed Charlaine Harris's latest Sookie Stackhouse novel, Deadlocked. I loved it! But, I always love her books. This mystery in this one--who killed the part-were and left her on Eric's front lawn--pulled me right in.

Finished two today -- Kill Shot which means I have only one unread Flynn left. And he's been ill, so I hope he's able to overcome and forge ahead. Also The Hollywood Canteen: Where the Greatest Generation Danced With the Most Beautiful Girls in the World , the primary effect of which was to make me feel like I was there-- which is exactly what I wanted from it.

My lovely wife suggested The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, I would not usually read this semi science fiction book, but as usual she was right, how could I ever doubt her? Great read

Honestly I found Gone Girl horrifying. I lived with someone sorta like that. Good story but too close to the truth to be "enjoyable'

As I said, despicable characters, but I couldn't putbitbdown. I am curious about Flynn's other books that also sound really dark and disturbing. Has anyone read any of her other books?

I am reading Kill You Twice by Chelsea Cain. This is book #5 in the Archie Sheridan/Gretchen Lowell series. I am 70% complete and enjoying it but I do recommend reading the series in order for a full appreciation of the characters.

Top recommended book from me is Immoral by Brian Freeman. By far, my favorite author in the mystery genre and his first book is a gem.

I took a break for a while but I just started back on my beloved "In Death" series by JD Robb with Seduction in Death. I simply LOVE the character's and their personalities in this series. They make me laugh, especially Eve & her husband, Roarke! What a strange yet perfect match! :-)

I just finished The Wheelmanby Duane Swierczynski. It's fast pace and easy read though no character development. It was okay. Watching The Hunger Game movie tonight and tomorrow I'll pick up Lee Child's new one A Wanted Man.

I am listening to One Summer by David Baldacci and it's definitely not his norm. He writes mystery and A/A but this is a very emotional book. I cried during the first CD. I'm sure not many like it because it is not at all like Baldacci's normal writings but I love it.

I'm reading The Coroner's Lunch and I love the main character, Dr. Siri! He is so smart and funny and I loved it when he told his boss off. He refuses to go along and is so feisty. I am also reading Enemy Women. I'm enjoying it too.

Just finished Tess Gerritsen - The Killing Place. What a brilliant book. Couldnt put it down. Her best yet that I have read.

I started The Perfect Husband this weekend while waiting for the next installment in the In Death series at the library. The next day, I got the email telling me that Reunion in Death was ready to check out so... I will be reading both of them! I'm in LOVE with the In Death series & really enjoy Lisa Gardner's writing style. Looking forward to both of them! :-)

Just started Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay. I've always enjoyed his books and this one is starting out well. I didn't enjoy The Coroner's Lunch as much as I thought I was going to. When they got into the stuff about the angry spirits from the trees possessing people I lost interest. Not my thing and unexpected. I did finish it though.

American Assassin is a great book. I'm going to go on a Mitch Rapp kick here the next couple of months to catch up. I read one a while back and found out I read it out of order so now I'm starting at the beginning.

I read and reviewed Death Play Pokers last week. I really enjoyed the book, so now I'm reading another mystery by a Canadian author, which is also good yet completely different. Quarrel With the Foe by Mel Bradshaw is police procedural set in Toronto in the 1920's.

I listened to the first three books on audiobook from the 'brary. Reader was Carolyn McCormick and she did a great job. After #3 I was definitely a fan so I started to read to help support the author and get a visual perspective on her writing. I see that the reader has changed for books #4 and #5 (Christina Delaine) so I am curious to see how she does compared to CM. I may listen to Kill You Twice in a few months to check it out. It's tough to move from the audiobook if the reader does a really good job putting a voice to the characters.
