Just finished State Of Wonder by Ann Patchett, recommended by my wonderful wife, it was a great book, It totally amazes me how an author can come up with an idea and turn it into a real treat to read. Read it and thank me later

Just finished Caught and was pleased but not AS pleased as I expected to be. The writing is excellent, as always with Harlan Coben, but I found the story to be slightly confusing. It went in so many different directions and I wasn't sure how it would all be connected. It wasn't a clear connection but still a connection.

I've now started Blindsighted, the first book in the Grant County Series by Karin Slaughter. I've heard so much about this series and this author so I'm very excited to finally read her work! :)

As a fan of Irish authors, I just finished Ratlines by
Stuart Neville, excellent. Starting Collateral Damage by Stuart Woods, quick and easy Stone Barrington book also, Empire and Honor By WEB Griffin (one in the car and one in the house).

Correction... I got notice that Dark Places became available from my library and since I've been waiting months for it, I'm going to read that first! Can't wait! :)

Is this the author of the Ghosts of Belfast? (Neville) I loved this book and wanted to read the rest of the series but since it was a UK book,and even the 1st novel had a different title, I didn't even know what to look for. Could it be Ratlines?

However in the right side banner there is a list of his books. Also I found his last 3 blogs very interesting. It's all about the "sock puppet" situation that some Irish writers had. Some authors were posting negative reviews of rivals' work using false names. Neville and some others figured who they were and outed them. What an interesting story!
He also has a website which is more update I think. I'd like to read one of his books because I love Irish writers.

Yes, this is the same author, I really like Ken Bruen another Irish author as well. His work is very unique short but too the point, excellent.

I've been reading Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder series of mysteries and very much enjoying them. The characters are interesting and memorable and the mysteries themselves are very intense. I started mid-way through the series (I think the book was free) but would recommend reading them in order as the main character Matt really changes throughout the series.

Scudder is one of my three all-time favorite mystery series protagonists. The other two are Spenser and Dave Robicheaux. I just reread the scudder series-- I hope Block writes more.

Reading Case Histories . This is the first Kate Atkinson I've read. I was a little uncertain about it on page one, but by page three I was hooked. Good book!

I love the Nameless Detective books. Finished the series quite a while ago, so I'm due to reread them again.

Love Pronzini and the nameless series, have read dozens of them, it is interesting to follow himm through his life into "old age" that would be about my age

I've just finished reading and reviewing a collection of personal essays that had been sitting on my TBR pile for longer than I want to admit. The Norton Book of Personal Essays is a wonderful, eclectic collection of essays by the likes of Twain, Fitzgerald, Welty, Cather, Parker, Capote, and many others. If you're a fan of the personal essay, you'll really enjoy the book.

Just finished America The Beautiful by Dr. Ben Carson, wow is he a great story, born in absolute poverty and his mother made he and his brother read a book every week, write a report on it and she couldn't read, he became the head of the pediatric neurosurgery department at John Hopkins and his brother is an engineer, he offer a lot of sensible ideas about America

I'm about halfway through My Forbidden Past which is one of those melodramatic old historicals written in the 40s. I picked it up because an old Ava Gardner movie I saw recently was based on it. Also almost done with Landay's The Strangler , my first foray into Landay since Defending Jacob. Finished Double Life: A Love Story from Broadway to Hollywood and A Box of Darkness: The Story of a Marriage the latter of which was irritating.

I'm currently reading a book called For Writers Only, by Sophy Burnham. It's not a how-to book, but reflections from the author and quotes from famous writers about the emotional component of writing: the fears, courage, nerves, favorite writing places, and so forth. It's amazing how many famous writers were afraid of a blank page. It's a quick read and I'm really enjoying it.

I just finished an amazingly good book, The Lost Saints Of Tennessee by Amy Franklin Willis, I can't recommend this enough, When I heard about this book it was mentioned to be a "Pat Conroy" type book, it was and I loved it, not a mystery but a wonderful tale.
