I really liked that book, once I got into it. It sometimes takes a little while because his books are so intricate, but he usually sucks me right in!
I just finished reading Marlin, Darlin'. It's the first book I've read on my Kindle. Sort of a romantic comedy mystery, but it kept me on my toes! Definitely worth checking out!!Marlin, Darlin': Garnet Sullivan Live from Florida #1

Started to read olive Kittleridge(?) It's a summer best seller and I'm enjoying it,but I'll have to wait to know if it's a winner.
Listening to Three Bags Full - an Irish shepherd is found murdered, so his flock decide to investigate!Sounds like a horribly eye-rolling premise, but it's actually a terrific book!

I'm on page 514 of the paperback edition of The Girl Who Played with Fire, by Stieg Larsson. Gotta go now——must get back to the book!
Trying to read In the Woods by Tana French but I'm having a very hard time getting into it. I've been told it's really great, but so far I'm not seeinc it. Sut I haven't given up yrt.

Lord Edgware dies by Agatha Christie, in the U.S it's known as 13 at dinner. Very good old fashioned detective story, Poirot is ok but I prefer Miss Marple.
Just finished James Patterson's Private and started Lisa Jackson's Left to Die. So far, so good.
I'm reading Ice Cold by Tess Gerritsen and it is a really great quick read. I find that after being with goodreads for about a year and reading what's been said if someone says it takes awhile to get into a book I automatically mentally decide not to read it. I have quit too many books that I spent money on because it started out slow and boring. Just me, I guess, but I just want to move on to the next one when that happens. examples....Girl w/Dragon Tattoo, The Thirteen Tale, In The Woods

I am on the waiting list at the library for the new one, Postcard Killers.
Dia, I really do enjoy his books. They are quick and fast-paced books. But there are some of his, not alot, but some that I felt like he wasn't quite sure how to end it. But I'm still looking forward to reading both of his new books.

I'm reading Marlin, Darlin': Garnet Sullivan Live from Florida #1 by Margaret Langstaff on Kindle. Have a few chapters left, but I have really enjoyed it so far. It's set in Florida and follows a reporter as she tries to uncover a murder mystery.
Jan, I'm reading In the Woods and have Faithful Place to read next. I have no idea why but I had a hard time getting into In The Woods at first. Bue now it's really got my attention. I can hardly put it down. Have you read In The Woods yet?

Bue now it's really got..."Yes, I looked back at my review from June 2008. I gave it 5 stars and recommend it to everyone. I said "I couldn't stop reading this book! The ending is not what you expect either so this book should definitely be on everyone's list." Tana French is definitely an author that I watch for new books.
I'm still reading In the Woods and I'm really getting into it. I'm having a hard time doing any thing but readins.
I thought In The Woods was good, but had a weak ending (and it was not too difficult to guess the identity of the main criminal). The author's second novel, The Likeness, was much weaker -- slow, depended on at least two major coincidences involving people looking like other people, unconvincing set of students, and it had been done better by Ruth Rendell writing as Barbara Vine years ago. I do hope that Faithful Place returns to the promise of In The Woods.
I'm sorry that you didn't seem to like any of Tana French's books. However since In The Woods is the first one I'm reading and enjoying very much and plan on reading some of her other books (like The Likeness, which I already have from the library) I do wish that you had not given away some of the plot in the book.

Just finished watching the new BBC series Sherlock, it's made me want to read Sherlock Holmes again.
I am sorry too, Karen, I do hate spoilers and I should have been more circumspect.I highly recommend Liza Marklund, a Swedish author. The first (chronolgically) is called Studio Six. Her protag is a journalist called Annika, and the books cover not only a crime plot but also her career struggles and various familiar issues with her personal life.
I also recommend Ann Cleeves, either her Vera Stanhope series or her Shetland quartet.

I read Irene Ziegler's Ashes to Water. Not only is it well written, it has sooooo many twists and turns...my kind of book!!

Finally finished Olive Kittleridge,and the characterization is great. Still I liked The Help Better!
I am in the middle of "A Certain Justice" by John Lescroart. It is one of the books in his series about Dismas Hardy and Abe Glitsky.Very well written; and the author is really goood about pointing out other things that affect the law--media; politics and other agendas.
If you like legal thriller and have not tried John Lescroart, I highly recommend him!
I am currently reading The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear. A great book that I somehow made it through half of last night. (sleep is overrated) This one is the 7th in the Masie Dobbs series and I recommend them all (best done in sequence)

They pretty much stand alone. I have enjoyed all of the five or six I have read so far. I highly recommend the series.
I am Reading Ptolemy's Gate by Johnathan Stroud. It is the third book in the Bartimeaus trilogy. Its great! the theme is incredibly fresh and also keeps you laughing with bartimaeus's comments :) I personally loovvveee it!!!!!

I am reading Life Support by Tess Gerritsen now. I have enjoyed Tess's books that I have read before and I am enjoying this book.
I've just started Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell. I loved the movie, and it seems to have followed the book so far. It's beautifully written. I can't wait to get back to it.

Likeness just didn't do it for me (slow). I may wait for the early reviews before buying her new one.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the latest in Winspear's Masie Dobbs series. I thought it was the best in the series thus far, but I'm sort of a sequential type of guy. The book lays the groundwork for the next phase of the series. Enjoy!

Maybe Stephanie ought to hook up with Hannah Swenson and throw the 4 men back into the dating pool. These never-ending triangles have lost my interest, that's for sure. I only read Plum series now for Grandma Mazur and Lula.
