I believe I have probably bought around 10-15 books this year, only 2 of those on my Kindle, which I have only had for about 6 months. I just received a book in the mail today and it got me thinking, I wonder how many of you already know about paperbackswap.com? I think I found out about it from one of my groups on GR. If you have not checked it out, its a really cool site where you can swap books with others, the only money you spend is on shipping, which is usually only a few bucks. It is also a good way to thin your collection, if that is something you are looking to do.

I (only) bought about 15 books this year... And I read 3 of them.
My book buying has increased slightly since getting an ereader. It works out since ebooks are usually cheaper and sometimes free.

Not really, I mostly get used books, unless they are newly published.
Mostly a rough estimate as I went through my Book list, but here you go.. 35 mystery, 5 war, 15 Fantasy, 20 fiction, 10 SciFi, 20 Spy/Adventure and 5 His/ Bio... 110.. and I managed to read 75.. I'm fighting a losing battle here..

I actually spent money on around 100 books this year, though with a few exceptions they were all Kindle ebooks. In many cases, those were special deals, like the Kindle Daily Deal.
I couldn't begin to tell you. I used to have a better idea before I got my Kindle, but now with all the downloads I have no idea.
I am doing a lot better this year in book purchasing terms than I did the last. I am determined to keep my to-be-read list down, so I've been basically forcing myself not to go into bookstores. I would say I bought no more than a dozen books all year, that with a trip abroad and a visit to Powell's.
I've been pretty *good* this year. My personal rule of buying only books that I'm sure I will want to keep and re-read does help keep my book budget manageable. So far: books by John Sandford, Craig Johnson, Mercedes Lackey, Lois Bujold, J. D. Robb, Faith Hunter, Elizabeth Moon, Larry Correia plus a handful of *new* authors I've discovered through free downloads on Kindle and liked well enough to buy more in those series.
This year I've really been trying to get my TBR to imaginable levels. I've only bought 27 books so far which is a great achievement for me given my previous amount of yearly purchases.
So far I have bought 6 books from Robin Hobb, 2 from John Green, 3 history books, 3 books from Kevin Hearne and another 10-ish single books and this is without the books I purchased on my kindle which probably are another 7 or 8...
Bought? Probably 30 eBooks or so.The real number is how many I got rid of, probably about 150 to 200.
I had to move and getting rid of all those old paperbacks really pushed me away from buying anymore physical books, for now at least.
Bought three more today. Added another couple to my "buy soon" list. (Libriomancer came out in paperback.) Bought some last week, too. Brings my yearly total up to about 20, I think.

According to my wife, well over 100. I hit garage sales, book stores, amazon, etc. Since I read around a book a day, or 4-6 a week, lots of them get donated to book sales, etc, but I also read them on e-readers as well.
Given the hundreds of books I have on my shelves I am supposed to be on a book diet. But it seems I find TBD too hard to resist so I clocked up 10 purchases there. Another half dozen at various other shops and I received a half dozen mooches from book mooch.
Not a ton but too many considering the state of my shelves.

Even when I had a great deal more free time, I could never read that many books. Congratulations. That is quite impressive to be able to say that.
I haven't bought all that many books this year, really. Maybe a dozen, give or take.I got so tired of buying books only to end up not liking them, so I mostly only buy books, now, that I'm pretty sure I'll definitely like (like if it's part of a series I have) or if I can't get it another way. I've been hitting the library pretty hard, and getting some free e-books now and again when they're offered.
I've bought about a dozen books this year, minus books from garage sales and other places that don't give receipts. I've read ten of the twelve. I save receipts from bookshops, the library and SFBC and other places to show what I've read and bought. I bought two copies of The Ocean at the End of the Lane. One came from SFBC. The next day I called to pledge money to my public radio station so I could hear Neil Gaiman interviewed, have him sign books, including his newest, in honor of the radio station and a new independent bookstore.I'm trying very, very hard to get most of my books from the library.
Just checked, bought 29 so far. That's not good because I pledged to myself to buy less books than I read - and that's 20 so far this year. So either I stop buying or I need to read faster!
I'd say in the vicinity of twenty this year, most of them non-fiction for once. I'm trying to make sure I finish reading the books I have before I buy more, but it doesn't always work out.
Hmmmmmm 25+?Something like that...before I became a manager I used to read more, now, not so much.:(
I will say that it helps that I now live within walking distance of a library. It makes my life much easier, and it cuts back on the costs.

But it does cut my costs back for I mostly all my books there.

It helps, I suppose, that it's part of a network of libraries, so they can get books in from elsewhere too.
I am so refreshed to hear of others who have this same so-called "problem"!! I believe I bought around 100 this year (new and used), giving me a grand total of somewhere like 2,500.
Around 25 so far but if we count gifts that could be beyond 50. Mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy books with some Speculative Fiction and Horror thrown in for good measure.
I just picked up the entire Tales of the Otori series in hardcover. I wasn't going to get it… but it was at a local market and the covers were so lovely… and the whole series only cost me $20…Here's what one of the covers looks like, so you can see where I'm coming from:
I'm guessing I've bought around 50, both used and new. I never thought to count before, it's too scary!!
Bill wrote: "About 150 but around 60-70 were free."Are you counting only paper books or ebooks too? I'm asking since I have a hard time putting all the books I have somewhere - I can't imagine what I'd do with another 150 ^_^.
Too many. ;)I've only bought ebooks this year. Most were discounted. Many were free.
I've had my nook since the first one and at the moment I have 730 books on it. I would need a new house if they were actually book books. And that's not even counting my kindle books. Lol.
I have a problem...
I've been doing significantly better in my book-uying mania. Many ebooks I've gotten for free, and in general I've decreased my TBR pile from 170 to 80, many newly added this year. That said I have a huge paper library, and have still bought probably around twenty paper books, and will most likely continue to buy more once I get another set of shelves. Bad me.

I've been trying to limit my paper book buying because I'm running out of space. However, my resolve tends to crumble when confronted by an affordable version of a book I really like (especially if it's a hardcover with a great cover… sigh). On the upside, where I live there is a service that basically gathers up all the unwanted books and sells them for cheap to raise money for charity - if they're not bought, they get pulped. So I've been picking up the ones I like and my family is also sending them overseas to help start a library. It's a lot better than seeing the books get pulped.
I keep track of all books purchased in an app on my iPad. The primary purpose of this is to ensure that I don't double purchase a book. As to space, I have exceeded all of my bookshelves in the house (and all are 2 deep). We have our office which I am in the process of converting into a library, where we have a few stack of books against the wall. And yes, I buy more books than I can read in any given year. That said, I am building a library for my eventual retirement (many years away yet).
So here are the counts:
- Hardcover / Softcover Books - 149 Books
- E-Books (Nook) - 21 Books
- Audiobooks (Audible) - 35 Books
In fact, I just purchased 23 books from Barnes and Noble last week as part of their Employee Family Discount weekend (and yes, I have someone who manages a B&N).

All ebooks. I take paperback and hardcovers out of my library but don't have anymore space to store them.
Seldom buy books. Use the local library services for my reading choices. Since I rarely read a book more than once, I just don't see the point of buying them. And, the library probably has whatever I want to read. In the past year, I only ran across 2 books that I wanted to read that the library doesn't have. And, later, I found 1 of them in the ebook section of that library service. And, the few books that I do want read again, I do have copies of. The adult center we frequent, occasionally have books put out as give away items from other users of that center. There, I've found a couple that I do want to re-read.
Actually, now that I think about it, I found 1 that I gave to a friend as he'd never read anything by Michael Connelly. Someone put out The Black Echo, which I gave to him. I believe that is the 1st Harry Bosch book and I thought what better way than to read the 1st in the series.
I usually only buy books when I want to read a series ('The Dark Tower' - 7 books; Earth's Children' - 6 books; 'Harry Potter' - 7 books; 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy; 'Hunger Games' trilogy) or if I am sure that I will re-read a book more than once.Like Ron, I borrow the vast majority of the books I read from the local library; however, I do own 101 books, including those named in this posting.

Must have bought some 200 books this year. Apart from 30 or so being eBooks (moving into this format now), I came across an group called Save the Children who were fundraising by selling cheap books. Got some real gems there! Left with two or three boxes full. I'd say about 15 or so of them were sci-fi and fantasy novels. That's where I got my Lord of the Rings trilogy, which is on my "to read" list.
I do not want to put it in writing...might get into trouble!! I also try to buy books for gifts whenever I can (there's nothing like encouraging people to read). :-)
