Brian I thought the movie version was simply atrocious. It would have been comical watching them undermine themselves and their chances for a sequel if it weren't for the fact that it was based on this book.

MizziQ You said it!

Madeline Is the movie that bad? I haven't seen it...

Anna No Madeline, it is not that bad. I have seen it twice and I would have to say that is sorta violent but it's has been awhile since I watched it. There is no kissing at all which I like. Eragon's dragon is super cute when she is little and beautiful when she's older. Over all it's a little violent and I would suggest that you look it up and read some reviews.

MizziQ Violent? Really? Hmmmm... I didn't notice. I guess everybody has their diffrent triggers. I didn't think it was that violent. But it doesn't really matter. I just didn't care for the movie is all. :) Worth trying though, especially if you've read the book!

Brian Anna C., please tell me that you are a troll. You can tell me--my faith in humanity depends on your answer.

J.P. McNeill I can't believe a screen writer would literaly "rape" a novel in such a horrible way... Percy Jackson was the exact same way... A screen writer feels he/she need to rewrite, or come up with a different story line to better fit the silver screen and all this does is destroy a well imagined story by a hard working author... Boo Hollywood! Unless they want the rights to my book; with a simple six figured check they can trash my novel however they please...lol.

Holden Attradies I wouldn't say they "raped" it, I think "gut" is more accurate. It's been a while since I saw it but I don't think they even say that the elfs are elfs, they leave the dwarfs out.... they basically remove any complexity's to the story that make it good and worthwhile. There was no depth to the movie... It felt more like an outline of the plot made into movie, not the book made into movie.

J.P. McNeill I believe "Gut" is the better term, although I am sure a author would feel as though his work was raped if he/she saw what had been done to all their hard work

Sum I seriously hated the movie.... they made all of the interesting bits dull and annoying. A lot of the complex or mysterious elements of the book were dumbed down or left out altogether.
Some examples: Angela the Herbalist, who was treated like an extra. Solembum the Wercat, left out altogether.
The way Eragon found out Brom was another Rider was stupid. Arya and Eragon's relationship felt stale and predictable.
So yeah, the movie version sucked.

Cinderela Okay so I almost walked out of the movie - and i've never wanted to do that.
The next day I wrote FOX an, i'm sure pointless, e-mail because I needed to vent.
It's been so long, its hard to say what exactly but there was like 101 things wrong with it; and I mean really wrong with it. Not just plot changes.

It would be nice if they re-made this movie before I died.

It shouldn't have been called Eragon. Basically it was just a scheme to make money because they obviously knew their could be no future after this. They messed up the plot so much that to even consider tring to produce Brisingr or Eldest out of that chaos would be ludacris.

Anastasia IT FELT SO SHORT!!!!!! i was mad because this a book that does not depict the dragon as the bad guy for once.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I was sad because I didn't like how they made Aayra

Clara the movie was terrible!!!!!!! arya was not supposed to know that Saphira had hatched!!!!!!! nor was she supposed to be awake when Eragon got her out of prison!!!!!!!!!!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

yup

message 16: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Banyai In my opinion, no movie is as good as the book.
I watched Eragon first then read.

I really enjoyed the movie but I have stopped comparing movie to book.....I wish they would continue making more movies with the series!

Holden Attradies The thing is they did such a bad job making this particular book into a movie I'm not sure how they could make the next book into a movie.

Beatrix The film is not much to do with the book. The finish is lousy.

Brian Who else thinks the ending song of this movie should have been an orchestral piece instead--preferably one without singing...

Oh, and Amy, be careful what you wish for. A whole lot of other people might be driven insane if that were to come true.

message 20: by Blue (new) - rated it 1 star

Blue Caeruleus The movie was indeed terrible, they got next to nothing right! Were they just hoping that nobody would care enough to complain? They got the nature of all of the characters wrong; and curse them, they left out Solembum and Orin!!! Their depiction of Angela was the worst in my opinion. The plot was scrambled, the villains were stupid, and the characters were botched beyond all possible forgiveness. I understand that when you're turning a book into a movie, it's impossible to stay 100% accurate, but for pity's sake! They didn't even TRY to stick to the book!

Avinash I HATED the movie. Spoilt the entire picturisation of the characters i had built up in my mind. It also left so many characters and details of the book.
I re-read the series immediately after seeing the movie to obiliterate the movie images from my mind...

Alexanne I watched the movie and thought that the book might be good so I read it and I REALLY liked the book and I was shocked at how innaccurate the movie was.. man
The book felt more serious and dangerous while the movie felt more like the later film, 'The Waterhorse'.

message 23: by Don (new) - rated it 5 stars

Don If I judged the book by the movie then I would never have read the book. Thankfully I read the book first.

Aami-wa The movie was FRIGGIN TERRIBLE!!! HOW DID THEY GET THAT CRAP OUT OF SUCH A GREAT BOOK?!?!?!?!?!

The movie SUCKED. I might have liked it if it wasn't compared to the book, but they took like two of the events that happened in the book, twisted ALL the characters around into hideous grotesques, added a million other things that NEVER happened and called it "Eragon, the Movie".

The people who made that movie are idiots. Don't authors have to approve the movie or something? I don't think Chistopher Paolini would have approved that trash. >:(

Don't mind me. I have wanted to say that for a long time. Oh, and don't even get me started on that pathetic moving picture that they made out of Percy Jackson. Is there a discussion on that? I have a LOT to contribute. :P

Brian Don wrote: "If I judged the book by the movie then I would never have read the book. Thankfully I read the book first."

According to Wikipedia, Paolini liked the movie...

message 26: by Lida (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lida I watched the movie first, and at that point didn't think it was that bad, slightly superficial and it's potential not fully exploited, but not bad!
Then I read the book, and now the only reason I would watch Eragon again, is to look at the cute dragon, because that you cant argue.... that is probably the best dragon depiction in a movie!!!!!! (And I love her voice)
And that is about the best I can say about the movie!!! (Ok, and I like the black horse :D )

Other than that, There is not much that is saving the movie!!!!

Bryce Lane I didn't mind the movie it was ok. The problem is that they screwed arya over, really blonde hair are u kidding me, and they botched it so bad they can't make another movie which pisses me off. Other than that it wasn't too bad.

Michaela i liked the movie, but the bad guy was so overrated. is it just me, or was the shade a better actor?

Alondra Miller I won't be that harsh; but it was pretty bad compared to the book. If you had never read the book, the your expectations would not be so high. So much was cut out of the book and kind of patched together. This book should have had 2 separate movies maybe... The book is so wonderful and the movie did not do it any justice.

Call myself a troll? Hardly think so. No way, how about you call yourself a ugly fleabag since you wanted to me to call myself a troll?

message 31: by Jo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jo Face the facts, Eragon-movie lovers: Eragon was the tenth worst criticized movie of the year.

Clara i know right... how could anyone who's read the book like the movie????????????????????????

Samantha The only good that came from that movie is hopefully more people read the books and realized how much better they were. They totally messed up the story line and took away any chance of making further movies; not that they would have been any good anyway!

Clara there was no Katrina so was Roran supposed to find Eragon???

Clara Do you remember when they were in the outskirts of Duart and some how also in the foothills of the Beor Mountains?? And Eragon was way to suspicious about Brom starting the the fire with " Brisingr"!!!!!

Ashlie I agree. The movie was terrible. Plus! They didn't even get through the whole first book! They only got like halfway through it, and it was cheesy, and had terrible acting!

message 37: by Ally (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ally I liked Jeremy Irons as Brom though!!! Everything else was an epic fail. They should go back and do a remake. And make it awesome! But yeah. Jeremy Irons is the best choice for Brom.

Ashley Ally wrote: "I liked Jeremy Irons as Brom though!!! Everything else was an epic fail. They should go back and do a remake. And make it awesome! But yeah. Jeremy Irons is the best choice for Brom."

Totally agree Jeremy Irons was great as Brom.

message 39: by Kasi (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kasi Blake The movie did suck. My nephew loved it, but I hated it with a passion.

Lady Amber (The Batty Bluestocking) I saw the movie first then read the books. The I went back and watched the movie. Needless to say I still rant about to to this day.
I mean seriously! Arya wasn't even an elf and did you see how fast Saphira grew. *facepalm*

Clara I know she grew into a full size dragon on like 2 seconds!!! And Arya wasn't even in her self induced coma when she was supposed to be... and what was up with Murtagh " l know these mountains like the back of my hand." LIAR!!!!!!

Clara Ashley wrote: "Ally wrote: "I liked Jeremy Irons as Brom though!!! Everything else was an epic fail. They should go back and do a remake. And make it awesome! But yeah. Jeremy Irons is the best choice for Brom."
..."

However Brom wasn't supposed to be some weird beggar dude!!! The guy that played him was a good actor though I always pictured him older!!

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the film was a complete disapointment!!! You just can't compare it to the book..... I vote that the film gets remade, but yeah, they can keep Jeremy Irons
^^

Clara I hope that some day they will remake the movie into 2 parts cuz that's the only way they're gonna get all the details in there!!!! And also change the actor for Eragon, Roran, the Shade, Arya, and so forth.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

yes. the movie sucked. badly. they could have done it WAY better then that. It ended it a cliffhanger, and it were not like the book at all.

Clara Excactly.....none of my friends understand how I feel! Im so glad I can vent my feelings here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :):):)

Taylor The film did the book an injustice in my opinion. The book was way better than that! I personally wish now that I never saw the movie because it wasn't even like the book.
