Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I'm not seeing zombie apocalypse when I look at this book cover for A Zombie Apocalypse 2 : Spreading the Disease

Oh...okay. I guess it wasn't what I was starting to think was going to happen...

Summary line : After reuniting with her niece and turning her into one of the infected, the two make their way along the highway stalking human prey.

RUN!!! They're coming to disease you!

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Wow...uh yeah that reminds me of a Friends episode when Joey was so excited because he modeled for a poster...and it turned out it was for a VD warning campaign. Yeah...that description...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments Stacia ~ platonic wrote: RUN!!! They're coming to disease you! "

They look like they're spreading a disease alright, but not a zombie one...

LOL! So true!

Stacie (stack-i-e) Hahaha, I think someone else has said it before. I wish goodreads had a like button for comments!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I was thinking the same thing Cassi and originally had posted a comment about STD's, but thought maybe someone would think I'd lost it, so I went back and edited.

Apparently, I haven't if you all were thinking the same thing...either that, or we've all lost it.

message 358: by Hillary (last edited Feb 02, 2012 01:57PM) (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Pfft. I am perfectly sane! You read that description and your brain screams "skanks!"

Also I will let my gamer flag fly for a moment here...the first thing that popped into my mind was this guild on one of the many WoW servers we played on over the years. Its name was STD'S ARE BOP. (Bind on pick-up, for you non gamer people.)

message 359: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I remember that one. I used to love all of the weird guild names, like ghouls gone wild, etc.

My favorite was R.I.P. Bill Cosby because it never failed...someone would always end up saying in general chat, "Bill Cosby died?"

We may have all lost it. But I think that picture and that description invited the joke.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Good point.

I like this cover.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 197 comments This is a beautiful cover.

The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry

message 363: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I had to enlarge that one to look at it more closely. It is a beautiful cover, but almost creepy at the same time because it looks like the wings are growing out of her back.

Picked this book up today and it also has a steampunk vibe to the design, but I'm thrown by the futuristic Egypt summary/description.

message 364: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) The wing picture weirds me out too because they're such tiny weird little nubby wings.

message 365: by Leea (new)

Leea Hahahaha!!

message 366: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And the attachment point looks painful -- like it just happened.

Spreading the disease -- why would they be carrying their shoes if their zombies? LOL they are spreading a disease!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Athlete's foot?

Maybe even zombies get sore feet. High heels can be a bitch.

message 368: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL. Definitely -- but would zombies worry about saving their heels?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Good point. They aren't supposed to have much brain function.

message 370: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha, makes the cover even more WTF!

Oh god he is hot!

message 372: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Stacia ~ platonic wrote: "Did you mean he doesn't look as handsome compared to the first three covers, or just not handsome in general? I assumed it was the same guy, but I didn't look closely, so maybe it's a different person.

I do think the guy doesn't look as great on this cover (the goatee is an odd shape from the front on view), but I love the color scheme and the design.

It's probably silly, but I've always had a little bit of a fascination with the Atticus cover model, especially on the cover of book 2 (Hexed). I had to stop for a second to go look and see if it's the same guy. After looking at them side by side, I can't tell.

The books are just as well received by men and women and aren't girly at all, so I think it's kind of funny/cute that we're talking about how sexy he is!"

I have a strong dislike for this series but I love the covers. I think the covers are very well planned out - -but I agree, the goatee is weird on #4. I think they appeal to both men and women, because what we like about Atticus on those covers is his power and strength and that appeals to men too. Men want to be him or know him.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I didn't realize the Iron Witch series was about yoga.

Tree pose, right? Or do you put your hands together in front for that one?

I do sort-of like the cover.

message 374: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments rofl Yeah. She must be trying to blend into her surroundings!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I have no real comment about the cover design, but I WISH I had penned a book titled Land of Corn Chips. That has to be one of the best book titles ever.

message 376: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stack-i-e) I find it hilarious that the book title is something like that and there is a dragon on the cover!

message 377: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments Yes, I find myself wanting to read it just to find out the connection between the Corn Chips and the dragon!

Looks like the same person to me! And I swear I've seen this same looking cover somewhere else as well

message 379: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I think it's the same stock photo...

It also reminds me a bit of the Finnikin of the Rock cover. Different guy, same feel.

message 380: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Feb 09, 2012 01:32PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments He's a stock image guy. You'll find him on several books on this list :

Guys Wearing Hoodies

Book number 15 on the list makes me laugh because he's doing duckface!

The Finnikin cover always makes me think of Ben Barnes if he had blue eyes.

There are a lot of stock models who seem to be used for books. I have a thing for the guy who's on this list :

That Girl & Hot Guy from the Obsidian Cover

I am curious as well. It's such an odd thing, yet somehow intriguing.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments That Maxim font is way too close to (if not) comic sans for this graphic designer not to cringe upon sight.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear

message 383: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stack-i-e) Hahaha, duckface. I didn't realize how many book covers used stock images.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments Stacie wrote: "Hahaha, duckface. I didn't realize how many book covers used stock images."

Almost every book. Even the Twilight covers (which made so much money) are non-royalty stock photos. Sometime showed me where it was available once.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Hmmm...

This summary blurb make me do a double take.

This a charming and most moving tale about a young female calf growing up, told through her own eyes.
Princess is not just an ordinary calf. She is different to the others. Sure she is black, but the wrong kind of black!
Follow her through her early years, of bullying and racism, until her best friend, a young boy, tells her of a Great Place that is to be her destiny.
If Princess were human, she would be a 13 year old girl, dreaming of a career as a super-model. That would a daring dream for any girl; but for a cow that is different, is it a dream too far…?

message 386: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 10, 2012 04:35PM) (new)

what the?
its like a very messed up black beauty

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments My first reaction is: AHHHH attack of the fonts! Then things only get weirder as I read the description. Where do you find these things?

message 388: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I have a few bookmarked sites that I check daily for freebies. This one popped up on the list today.

I'm unsure if the book is supposed to be an educational book about racism, or if it's a weird take on Pinocchio, where the cow just wants to be a real girl.

Part of me is tempted to download it just to see wtf is going on.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Is it just me, or does this cover scream Lolita? I'm not sure what to think of it, but I think it disturbs me on a certain level.

This last part of the summary made me grab the free Kindle download out of strange curiousity...

So Levi starts playing his game - and the consequences will alter her just as much as they will him.

Parental advisory recommended - strong language and sex references.

I'm not sure whether I should be intrigued or frightened. I'm leaning toward nervous.

*edit* Uh...GR you don't have this shelved as a YA book but I found this under "children's freebies." Now, I'm even more unsure what's going on here.

This cover creeps me out.

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Ooo....I like it

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments At least in steampunk covers the pretty dresses serve a purpose!

Much preferred for me too. The font is really nice along with the colors.

message 398: by [deleted user] (new)

oo that is pretty!

message 399: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Feb 17, 2012 06:19PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I agree about the colors and font. Everything works.

What do we think of this cover? I think something about the way everyone's standing is a bit stiff, but it does convey that the shit is probably going to be hitting the fan.

Also, if crisis was about to go down, I could think of worse places to be stranded than a Wal-Mart. At least you can get everything from food, to camping gear, to weapons there.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments That covers says to me "Look another dystopian novel" which makes me feel a little meh because it lacks WOW factor. Also is reminds me a bit much of the movie twister and I'm wondering if a tornado is relevant AND why the heck they're all just staring at it.
