HAHA, you had me snorting at "I hold sword to boob".

That is one really sad cover, considering I actually liked the cover for the first Mythos Academy book.

message 853: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments Is it me or has the model for the Mythos Academy books been different in just about every cover? That has bothered me, too, almost as much as "sword to boob."

The covers for these books are much better in Australia. You should check them out:)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Mead really deserves better by now. This is just...awful.

message 856: by Katy (new)

Katy | 478 comments I saw this one the other day. It's kind of awful.

Sydney? kind of looks like a cyclops btw.

message 857: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I do not like that AT ALL!

message 858: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments lol cyclops Sydney

message 859: by Katy (new)

Katy | 478 comments she makes me think of Leela from Futurama :P

message 860: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Siege and Storm cover:

Love it.

And there's this - because Penguin Teen is obsessed with forcing our bookshelves into unmatching chaos:

Thoughts?

message 861: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments I actually love the new Stephanie Perkins covers. I hated the original cover for Anna and almost didn't read it because it was so cheesy. I do miss the purple haired Lola though.

message 862: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I have ambivalent feelings about both sets of covers. No matter what you do to the covers (which were froofy cutesy and young looking), the titles are still REALLY girly. Trying to appeal to more mature teens and adults, maybe? I can see these new ones going over better with an older audience.

message 863: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Mar 01, 2013 05:09PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I wasn't a huge fan of the original Anna cover when I first saw it, but that was more because I had an aversion to all things YA contemporary romance at the time (Anna was the book which got me to try out the genre, actually). Since then, the cover has grown on me and now I think it's cute. I really like the original Lola cover.

The new covers bug me. If I passed any of those books in a book store, I wouldn't look twice. They look too generic to me and don't give any indication of how fun the books really are.

message 864: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I agree with you completely Stacia. I wouldn't think twice about those covers, and while I agree that the original covers are girly and young, I think they're also really cute and I was really looking forward to seeing the couples on Isla. I'm pretty disappointed.

message 865: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I was really looking forward to seeing the Isla one too. :/ I agree that the older covers had to grow on me, but grow on me they did. The new ones are definitely boring in comparison. Not ugly per se, just boring. So whatever. I'm giving up, Penguin. You win.

Also agree. Yes, the original covers were cutesy but there was a personality to them. These give me nothing.

message 867: by Carina (new)

Carina OMG, someone needs to fire the person in charge of the Richelle Mead book covers!

I have always loved the original Stephanie Perkins covers. Probably the only one here.
I hate the new covers. So boring and predictable.

message 868: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments You're not the only one. They were cute and had personality, just like the books. Now they lack that little something to catch your eye. Isla better be afuckingmazing and blow its new cover out of the water.

Nope...I'm not annoyed...not me!

message 869: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 867 comments IMO they were cute and more according to the genre they are.
Though I like colors in the new covers and they are visually beautiful, now the titles seems cheesy instead of cute which is a bad sideeffect. They don't represent what the books are.

Kathleen | 38 comments Adult book but KMM's "Burned" cover released today.

I love the contrast to "Iced" but I wanted to see a female on the cover as well like the small silhouette on "Iced." I'm so used to her books with females (or males) on the covers. This might not be released til Jan 2014 according to her fb.

I really want to know more about Ryo already.

Amen to all that.

message 874: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I agree with everything you said.

I am excited, but I definitely won't be rushing out to by it in hardcover, lmao. Fool me once...

How do you post large images like this? I've been curious about that.

message 877: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 38 comments I hope Mac and Barrons at least get to talk in this book and not just "they're over there" lol

message 878: by Carina (new)

Carina The only thing I disagree on a little, is on the less creppy Christian. I know, I know, I must be crazy, but I found him so entertaining in ICED. Lol

He was super creepy but after a few of the zings I found him amusing too. lol. I'll back you up Carina!

message 880: by Christina (new)

Christina (alinastarkov) Ugh, unmatching bookshelves is the worst - that's why I (almost) always e-book until a series is completed. When it's over I can choose the matching paperbacks or hardbacks once and for all, lol.

Is there a reason Syd's lily is on the wrong cheek/missing? I haven't read TIS yet, so maybe it's some spoilery plot clue I don't know about.

I love this cover:

message 881: by Carina (new)

Carina I'm glad I'm not alone, Hillary.
On the Moning group, everyone hated the change in Christian's character. I felt like the lonely fan who liked where things went. ;P

message 882: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I wouldn't have minded the Christian change if the pedophile aspect wasn't there.

There's just nothing that will make me believe Christian is going to (view spoiler).

Just looking at that cover, which I like, reminds me of this trailer I just saw for a movie with I think? James McAvoy and Kirsten Dundst about lovers from this twin world where one lives on the ground and the other in the upside down sky world so they are upside from each other.

message 886: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 867 comments Yeap, Upside down. The movie poster resembles a lot. I want to see it, BTW.

Cover reveal for book 3 of Legend.

message 889: by Rachael (new)

Rachael F (rachaelreviewsall) Hey guys, I found this really interesting post on book covers and gender. Maureen Johnson set her Twitter followers to design covers of famous books as if they were written by a gender-swapper author. It's really worth a read/ look at:

message 890: by Lekeisha (new)

Lekeisha (lekeishathebooknerd) I was browsing Amazon for NA/YA Paranormal books and came across this one... THE ELITE Unveiled by Coey Cain

The cover drew me in so I read the synopsis. I bought it and it was a great read. Lacking a little more info about The World Elite, but I think it'll be covered more in book 2. I'm anxious to see what Book 2's cover will look like.

message 896: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Yeah I read that stuff with Maureen Johnson. And, while I think it sucks that female authors are often given these froofy covers even if the content isn't being represented properly by those covers, I also don't like the insinuation that these covers are somehow less than just because they're 'girly'. Of course, if publishers would stop trying to play up the cutesy of the covers, maybe they could stop feeling like they have to redo them mid-series in order to appeal to a wider audience. But then if society would stop perpetuating the idea that women and girls and femininity are inferior, then maybe guys wouldn't be too embarrassed to pick up a book with a 'girly' cover to begin with.

message 897: by Kelly ~ happily oblivious (last edited May 10, 2013 12:26PM) (new)

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 3 comments I'm guilty of being much more attracted to some of the "girly" covers. I guess I liked the aesthetics and the promise of romance over the bluntness of the "boy" covers. Some of the "boy" covers seemed too bleak to appeal to me. Like you, I believe the covers should reflect the content. If the story is bleak, then the cover should be fitting. Likewise, if the story is froofy, then the cover should be also. Hence, my choice in reading materials.

message 898: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the new divergent cover, but I couldnt get into the second book and it makes me sad :(

message 899: by Rekall (new)

Rekall | 12 comments I'll admit, I'm not crazy about the coverflip article. I think the theory of it was better than the execution. Mainly because instead of taking a cover by a female author and giving it the male equivalent in the same genre, they're taking a cover from one genre and redesigning it into another. To me, all they're doing is proving that different genres have different styles of covers (which is already known).

I think a better experiment would have been if they had compared the covers of female and male authors in the same genre. Like Harry Potter vs Percy Jackson, Harry Dresden vs Kate Daniels, or The Maze Runner vs the Hunger Games. I especially it would be good if it was done on a large scale where many examples were looked at in the same genre by authors of both sexes.

message 900: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 38 comments I really like the new cover. I'm going to have to reread before it comes out because I can't make sense of it off the top of my head in relation to the factions.
