I have that book sitting on my bookshelf, I loved the cover as well. It's what lead me to want to read it.

Diane | 1234 comments This thread is interesting because you always hear "you can't judge a book by its cover" but it seems that so many do. It also makes me wonder about who decides on the cover art. There are some pretty cheesy covers out there and you can bet that somebody got paid to do the cover and somebody got paid to make the decision on who that would be. It also makes me wonder about all the e- books now. Is the cover really important in that regard? If not how does that affect some peoples choices? Just food for thought...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments Before Goodreads I was more apt to judge a book by it's cover. However now I use the opinions of friends.

Somebody at the publishers makes the decision. From what I hear around the internet sometimes they consult the author, sometimes they don't. Too many covers nowadays are made with stockart in my opinion.

I agree with Cassi that GR has made it easier to use the opinions of trusted friends. Before GR, it was about browsing the bookstores/libraries or maybe checking out some Amazon reviews (which are rigged a lot of the time). So it was almost always a crapshoot.

I'm more likely now to read a book with an ugly cover if trusted friends are telling me it's worth the read. I'm also very big on looking at summaries. Lately, if I'm not working on some sort of a group/buddy/challenge type of read, I think about what subject or genre I want to read and go from there. Exploring different subjects is fun, so I'll often go looking for something that's subject specific.

Pretty covers will get a book added to my TBR list if there aren't any opinions out yet, but if enough people that I trust say the book sucks after release, I'm not going to waste my time unless the subject is one that really appeals to me and I'm willing to risk it. But that's rare.

While I will admit that this may very well be true, there's also another reason why the fans are cheering. Ward didn't want to write this book for the longest time because it's about a m/m couple and most of the books are m/f. She said that she was probably going to make a side novella instead because she didn't want to alienate some of her fans. The fans have been pushing back to have Qhuinn as a featured lead and it looks like a lot of people got their wish.

Qhuinn is one of the best characters though and he looks like an assassin on that cover. Even better.

I second this! He does look awesome on that cover.

message 672: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments hahaha. why is his shirt pulled aside so we only get one moob?

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments I'm not at fussed about Atticus's cleavage. I want him anyways, cleavage and all.

message 674: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm laughing at his facial hair, he's got a 'tickler' lol!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I was talking to a friend about the cover model and we were wondering if he's a rendering of a real person.

If so, I want to know who that is.

message 676: by Carina (new)

Carina Anyone seen the next Necromancer book cover?

I liked the first MUCH better than this one. Definitely, not a fan of the cover, BUT I am highly anticipating this book. So I don't really care about the cover, I just want it to be as good as the first book or better!

message 677: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Wait, what? That's so different. I liked the first one way better. It was all dark and creepy looking with Sam and the crow.

The new one sucks.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments Stacia ~ the professional insomniac wrote: "I was talking to a friend about the cover model and we were wondering if he's a rendering of a real person.

He's a real person but not a red head. Apparently he's even more rugged before photoshop. That's all Kevin Hearne will say about it.

message 679: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Eeek, I'm excited about Trapped, and Cassi, I agree. I'll take Atticus cleavage and all. He can quote Shakespeare to me all day and I'll be happy. Beautiful cover!

Necromancing The Stone - I heard that the cover still might change. It's just a 'working cover'. So, while I think its a cool cover if the entire series matched, here's hoping that it does change before the release.

Forgive me if I shared this already - but have you guys ever seen the TED talk by Chip Kidd, a famous book cover designer who talks about some of his creative process. Very cool :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC0KxN...

Holy Shit! What a great cover!!! And I'm really liking the look of Granuaile! Even though it looks like Atticus has more boobs than her! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They both look great and makes me more excited for book 5.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I so want him and Granuaile to get together. It's not like he's going to end up with any of the goddesses anyway.

Tellulah, I don't think you had shared it unless I'd missed the share. Gonna go check it now, thanks. :)

Did you read Tricked? Their relationship sort of went to a new level there (nothing sexual though...which actually opened some funny conversations.)

message 685: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I haven't. I only finished Hammered (Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne last week and it's rare that I read series books back-to-back these days. Hopefully I'll get to it soon though before I forget any details. It was a bad idea to split up books 2 and 3 with so much time in between. There were a few chapters of confusion for me with Hammered before things started to fall into place.

message 686: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I got the feeling that something would happen in Tricked that would elevate Granuaile and Atticus relationship. I'm thisclose to finishing Dust & Decay, so I think I'll do Tricked next.

message 687: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I don't read series back to back either. I need some space in between the books but I've learned that I can't wait that long either. :)

message 688: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments It can be rough if you wait too long and lose some of the former excitement.

Joan (official heroine hater) | 98 comments Wow, the Finale cover is really nice. Guess I should read Silence one of these days. Nora drove me so nuts in the 2nd book, I never did get the third.

Joan (official heroine hater) | 98 comments Okay and that Atticus guy is seriously hot, cleavage and all. I should really try those books out, everyone here seems to love them....

message 691: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I laughed that Kevin Hearne called him pretty. I found an interview when I went looking to find the model's name.

No one is letting the info slip. :(

message 692: by Gwennie (last edited Jun 08, 2012 06:02PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I know! I've searched and looked myself. Not sure why, I mean he's gotta be a model... or maybe not. It's weird that it's a big secret.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments I know! It's a tightly guarded secret. I thought about going to a Kevin Hearne signing tonight (it's 1.5 hrs away & I've driven a lot this week which is why I didn't go) just to see if I could bribe him with cookies to give me a name or at least an unphotoshopped pic for further investigation.

message 694: by J.W. (new)

J.W. Ellis (jwellis) oooooh a 5th book, awesome, i am wrapping up Hammered tonight, starting Tricked tomorrow, but this cover is defiantly something new. I like it. but hmmmmmmmm

message 695: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL! I like it. I'm going to start Tricked this weekend too. I'm excited for it.

message 696: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I still haven't read past the 1st one, which sucks because I really liked it! And I have the 4th one. I should probably pick up 2 and 3 on the Kindle. But the size of my book pile is :(
