Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Give me eye-catching AND unique! That's what I want for my book covers!!

Although, I will say I've been duped by many a pretty cover and almost missed out on fantastic reads b/c of crappy covers.

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Wtf is with that craptastic hair. I half feel cheated not seeing a dodo bird nesting in her hair.

message 503: by Leea (new)

Leea LOL Hillary! So true.

Leea Great cover!

Carina Wow, that cover is really nice! Something different for a change.

Yeah, her whole look is just a little bit off. lol

message 508: by Carina (new)

Carina I have to admit. I love this cover *grins*

message 509: by Leea (new)

Leea On the smaller picture I didn't notice Dani, love it!!

message 510: by Carina (new)

Carina Isn't the background awesome? Oh yes. Call me excited!

message 511: by Ian (new)

Ian Loome (lhthomson) | 3 comments How are you guys on more cartoony Potter-ish covers?

message 512: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm excited too... Love the background with the church.

message 513: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Mar 29, 2012 08:59PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Wait, is KMM, the one who writes about Barrons? I remember Wendy telling me about the character and now I can't remember what book or author!

message 514: by Leea (last edited Mar 29, 2012 09:07PM) (new)

Leea Yep, Jen. Karren Marie Moning writes the Fever Series and the Highlander Series.

Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning and Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning

message 515: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Oh, good! I've heard he ranks up there with Jamie so I had to find out for myself. lol

I wasn't a huge fan of the Potter covers but I don't hate them either. The success of a cartoon-like cover would probably either depend on the audience which the books are targeted toward, or on the genre. I would think cartoon graphics would work best for middle grade books or (in some instances, depending on content) for sci-fi & fantasy books.

Here's one I like :

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Leea wrote: "On the smaller picture I didn't notice Dani, love it!!"

Why did I think Dani had light hair?

message 518: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments I must have that book. I need it now! lol

message 519: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) dDani was a redhead, right? Curly red hair?

Yes, Barrons is from Fever, and he is my second most favorite fictional man. Slots 3-4- and probably 5, are held by men from the BDB.

message 520: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Ya know, they only describe her like once when ya first meet her. Im fairly certain she's a redhead.

message 521: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Haha, for some reason that's what I picture... I'm pretty sure too.

message 522: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments It could have something to do with so many people fantasy casting Chloe Moretz (from Kick Ass and Let Me In) as Dani that I might have her image stuck in my head as Dani.

I just saw that Chloe was cast in the new Carrie remake. I'm not always a fan of remakes but I might actually watch one for Carrie.

message 523: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, I remember Dani being a redhead. Chloe Moretz would make a good Dani, just some hair color :)

A Carrie remake, that movie used to creep me out.

I knew you'd mentioned Barrons before when we talked about the best fictional male characters. Glad to know I'm not crazy. lol

These brothers...man, they really do make me curious about them, too.

message 525: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Mar 30, 2012 04:53PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Ok, so this cover...umm, I have no words.

message 526: by Carina (new)

Carina Is that a good or bad speachless, Jen? Have you read the book?
Maybe its because I've seen so many similar covers, but that Shattered Souls cover only gets a "Meh" out of me, instead of a "Ooooooo, I like!"

message 527: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Mar 30, 2012 11:07PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I actually like that cover in the larger size. When I saw it as a thumbnail it didn't really stand out. The flower petals falling away from her body, showing her presence disintegrating, sort of fits with the title.

Not a cover but the title made me laugh :

Teenaged Pussies From Outer Space : A Love Story

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments Something about her upper body looks distorted/photoshopped to me. I keep looking but can't figure out what.

message 529: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Dani has auburn hair! Mac states it in Dreamfever. Just happened to be rereading it and came to that part yesterday. :)

I am meh toward the shattered souls cover. Something just doesnt click for me.

That title made me go WTH!! It just sounds wrong on so many levels.

Well, the angle of her body is awkward and the disintegrating into flower petals is sorta creepy to me. Dunno why...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Book 3 in the Bright Young Things series. Maybe it's just me but this one doesn't have as much of a 1920's vibe as the first two did. It could be the hairstyle. I do like these covers better than the ones for the Flappers series though.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments The scissors are a nice touch! This girl's pose is similar to the one on this author's adult book Soulless, except facing in the opposite direction.

Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

message 534: by [deleted user] (new)

Im so excited for that book!

Really? Over Barrons? :)

message 536: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, oh yes. Jamie from Outlander has been my number 1 since I was about 16.

message 537: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) This is pretty freaking awesome! It's got me pretty excited!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Is that an official cover?!?

It's like we've been waiting for this book forever! I'm so excited if this means we're one step closer to getting a book 2!

message 541: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Wow. That's one fascinatingly creepy cover! I want to read it!

message 542: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I kinda want to hit that guy in the throat or possibly in the jaw area with my fist. I dunno why. Maybe it's his expression.

message 543: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Jenny, you crack me up! I think he'd shatter b/c he looks like he's made of glass...

message 544: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments He does. Maybe I should get him in the forehead. It looks like it has been structurally compromised.

message 545: by Carina (new)

Carina I guess this means I have to read Unwind sometime to see what all the buzz is about?

message 546: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments That is creepy!

Carina, I just read Unwind last month and the buzz doesn't lie! It's mind-blowing.

message 547: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I need to read Unwind too!

message 548: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 25, 2012 10:06AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) He does look to be structurally compromised. Unless it's like his 3rd eye and therefore gives him enlightenment. ;) Do it!

I've got Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman on my tbr list. Maybe it needs to jump to the top of the queue...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 76 comments The guy in the hoodie looks vaguely familiar. Or is it just because their are similar covers out there?

message 550: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) You absolutely need to jump it to the top of the list, Jen. It's amazing!

Cassi, it's funny because they are totally reusing the boy in the hoodie which is done all the dang time. But the face damage is what really makes it stand out.

I guess we're introduced to a new character which is made up of (view spoiler). So maybe that's who this is? Really that's not a spoiler if you read the synopsis but since there are some who haven't read Unwind yet, I went ahead and hid it, lol.
