Yea i noticed right after i read Nevermore..sucks
I'm on page 300 now and I'm liking it/on the verge of loving it maybe? But it feels like we should have gotten some answers by now.
Wow Stephanie that is so cool! I bet the author is super nice. I grew up in MD (western MD) and i have heard about the man in the scarf as well... isn't that creepy but kind of cool too. Makes you wonder how much truth is behind the book...
I'm about 150 pages in, interesting main characters, love the Poe references. (I teach 5th grade and I always do a little Poe unit right around Halloween.) I'm looking forward to reading more.

I agree Cambria, I kept expecting more answers. I know that it is a series, but I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied. I do like the characters, and I enjoyed the Poe references. Interesting, but I'm not dying to read the next one. It was good, but not great.
Stacia ~ poisoned wrote: "I didn't know that about [spoilers removed]"I thought that was pretty interesting as well. Reality and fantasy tied together.
Shanna wrote: "Interesting, but I'm not dying to read the next one..."This is probably a good thing since the next book doesn't come out for a while!
just got the book today from the library, it took forever to come. =) tonight is going to be a good night.
We sure like to abuse our book characters, don't we? I have a few people I'd love to smack if I had the chance.
ok i finished it. lol... wow, if left me in a state of "WTF?" lol i hate cliff hangers. but i do love the way this book weaved in eap's work, that i thought was beautifully done.
Not impressed. I didn't like the dreamworld sequence it was really hard to follow. I am not interested in reading the rest of the series I just want someone to tell me what happens so I wont watse my time reading it.lol
I finished on Friday but haven't gotten to post until now. I'm just glad I made it in October!I didn't particularly like it. I kept reading, mostly because at the length that it is, I had invested a lot of time. If I had it to do over, I probably would have stopped sooner. One reason I kept going is the particularly high ratings it has, which made me assumed I'd get to a point where I'd like it more/it would get better.
I think overall it just wasn't enough information for me. I can handle not knowing some things as long as answers come eventually. (Jellicoe Road is an excellent example of this.) But there just weren't enough answers for me, and what little explanation we did get came after 500 pages. I am patient, but that's pushing it!
I was never a big Poe fan but I don't think that has anything to do with what I didn't like about it. I actually liked the parts about him and his writings, and how some of the mystery surrounding his death was a framework for the story. And even though I wasn't crazy about it, it was nice to read something creepy the week before Halloween.
I do find it interesting that the way it ended didn't bother me. I don't like "ending in the middle of the scene" style cliffhangers and this wasn't one for me. I could tell there was more to come, both from the book and because I know it's a series, but the action of this book did feel closed to me.
I can completely forgive you not liking this one since you're a Jellicoe fan. Anyone who likes Jellicoe is okay with me. :) This book is different, even for the genre. I'm not sure I'd read anything like it, so that was both a positive and negative for me in different areas.
That's true, I'm not sure I've read anything like it. But in this case, that wasn't necessarily a positive for me. In the case of say, Jellicoe Road, that works in its favor. Liar is another good example--I'm not sure I liked that one, either, but it sure was miles away from anything else I had ever read, and I can give it props just for that.

Moving this back to the Urban Fantasy folder. The discussion will stay open for anyone who reads the book after October.
I think I'm going to reread this book so I'll be refreshed on it when it comes out on

It's a rare Bunny sighting!
I've missed you. :(
So it comes out this week, huh...I have two other books coming out the same day, one adult book and the new Unwind book. Decisions, decisions...
QURRRLLL U KNOW YOU'RE MAH ONLY ONE! I've missed you and everyone in our little group. D: It's hard to balance everything having a job and being in college. >.< I never have time for anything. I miss buddy reads and all our awesome forum discussions! Yea, it comes out on the 28th! Actually, a ton of shit comes out on the 28th. It seriously gets my panties in a wad when they do that tomfuckery.
That darn bird is starting to freak me out. It was probably a bad choice in gif.You think I'm cutting you slack? One "hi" a week in eff would kill you?
Seriously, I'm just glad to see that you're alive any time you log on these days. College and work at the same time is a pita. I've been there.
Please, that bird is excellence personified. But naw, you're totes right. Every now and then, I go stalk eff then go try to catch up on books/gossip y'all are passing me in. LOL. Yea, my dad is a real stickler about earning my own way and being a productive member of society. My mom slips me a twenty now and then when things are looking bleak, but for the most part, I hustle my ass off to make good grades and
WTFFFFF. GR didn't email me to say you replied, for some reason. Also, I hear the same thing too. Too bad I can't dance, not to mention I wouldn't be reaping the spoils of free coffee, and baked goods. And, lets face it. The free, unlimited access to caffeine and carbs are totally worth it. :D
I really liked Nevermore and the Poe integration. I thought the book was very different from any other story out there. I have Enshadowed but haven't started it yet.
I may have to try this book again. I really wasn't a fan and ended up skimming toward the end, which I'm sure didn't help.

I feel bad that everyone seems to have loved the book, and I coldn't even finish half!
My library just ordered the second book. I only barely liked the first one, but I do want to know what's happened to Varen, so I'll probably pick it up sometime soon.
I only finished it because it was our group read and I had just joined the group, so I felt obligated. I would have stopped long before the end otherwise. It does make me feel better to see that others struggled with it, though! At the time it felt like everyone loved it.
