LMAO! That's a great story! We all jumped a mile too, and then busted out laughing at ourselves. And by 'we all' I mean the entire theater.
Nhya, that is such a great story! It would be the perfect "meet cute" for a movie or book...or real life! lolMy friend jumped and screamed so loudly that it scared the mess out of me! The entire theater jumped, but my friend was louder! lol
That's a super cute story Nhya!I always jump too, violently usually, but no screaming because you can tell it's coming. I hate waiting for things to jump out at you! Argh. The snake in the second Harry Potter movie got me too.

He was cute too! I should have played the "Damsel in distress" and sat in his lap LOL
Anyone else disappointed with the people of the Capitol? I guess I was expecting more flashy, crazy make-up, like purple and green people walking around. They looked good, but more tame than in my imagination. I wasn't exactly disappointed, but it was not how I pictured them in my head. The make up was a lot more subtle than I pictured. And I thought the skin colors were permanent, but I think we saw Effie in 3 different skin colors, to match her outfits.
I liked the fact they toned down some of that. I wasn't sure it would translate very well to screen.
Yeah, I was afraid the physical alterations wouldn't translate well on screen w/o being CG. So, I'm glad they toned that down, too.
I think the whole thing was done well with out being too physically graphic but still kept the emotional intensity. I agree with the rating being PG 13 and am glad they kept it from being R. Maybe had they shown that the must were once the other tributes it would have caused more controversy and a rating change.
I'm sure the didn't want to rate it R because they thought it might limit there audience. A pretty good number of parents won't let there kids watch Rated R.
I liked that they kept it PG13, and understand why. But at the same time I'm a very action oriented and gore loving girl (like the zombie kills in the Walking Dead) and part of me still wishes that the hallucinations Katniss had from the tracker jacker stings were more like the book. Especially the part with Glimmer.
Stacie, I don't know why, but the zombie kills on WD amuse me also and I'm normally not a fan of tons of gore in movies/t.v. I quit watching Spartacus because I got tired of all of the slo-mo gore. Maybe it's because on WD it's almost humorous the way you see the zombies' brains getting splattered. Is there anyone else who's seen the movie and wants to discuss it? We'll probably be moving this discussion back to the Sci-Fi folder under the topic name Hunger Games trilogy soon.
I just finished the first book. Can't wait to get my hands on the second. Some friends have been talking about The Hunger Games forever but I just had too much to read. Now that I have started I don't think I'll be able to stop.
Too many posts to read through :P But it seems the general consensus is that the last book was not well liked. I agree :/
I can defintely see why Mockingjay was a miss with people. But I personally, didn't find it to be bad. The WERE some things that made me boil with rage, that were just glossed over and not given the desserved detail they were entitled to, or some what of a rushed ending. But over all, a really good book.
I have to say I liked Mockingjay but it had some parts that I did not care for but I believe it was still a really good book.
I have to say, I thought the 3rd book was great - but I didn't form that opinion till I re-read all three books.SPOILER ALERT
I particularly liked the fact that Katniss's recover was slow, and that she and Peeta were left eternally scarred by the events. The last 20 or 30 pages did it for me.

I agree! Mockingjay was my favourite for the three. I really think the themes of all the books are really brought out in the last book. And the fear Katniss has in the end, the pain, the emotions, they all felt so raw.
SPOILER ALERTThe last novel wraped the first two books within a nice cover and I really liked that Peeta was, in the end, the one. It is one of my favourite series and, even if the epilogue was a little too short for my taste, I liked that Katniss didn't lose herself over the grief and still manages to have a normal life. The fact that Prim dies with all those childrean was one of the most shocking parts of the book. Along with Finnick death.
And I also haven't expected a second Hunger Games.
All in all, my expectation has been fulfield. It is a must!!

Welcome to the group Alice. :) Glad to meet you!Sorry for saying this; I feel bad since it's your first post... but I think there's some spoilers in your post for the last book about character deaths and who Katniss ends up with. Since we might have someone wander into the topic who hasn't read all 3 books yet, is there any way you can put your comment either inside of a spoiler tag or at least edit your post and put the word spoiler in caps or something?
I just don't want to ruin the ending for anyone who isn't up to that point yet. Hope you understand!
Believe it or not, I did not think that I would enjoy the Hunger Games as much as I did. I went into the series kind of iffy and came out of it a bawling mess of attachment to characters.(view spoiler)
I loved it. I was impressed, but then again a friend of mine who never reads (she actually gets really angry when she has to read, and the more she reads the more irritated she gets) is the one who told me I had to start the series because it was so good. I'm glad I did.
This is a great series for reluctant readers. I can't wait to see who Finnick is going to be in the movie.
Its rumored that Grant Gustin (Glee) is going to play Finnick.(view spoiler)
But I've also heard that Sam Clafin (Snow White and the Hunstman, Pirates of the Caribbean) is getting the role.

I really want to know who is going to end up being Finnick. He's such a unique guy.Have any of you ever seen the (view spoiler)

They made them as practice to audition for roles in the movie, and then they sent them in for casting call. I think two of them actually had the opportunity to audition.

Don't worry, it takes a while until I learn all the rules here. Thank you for making me pay attention. And also, glad to be here. It is a little overwhelming by the number of the threads, but I will try to catch up :)
Glad to have you! Take your time going through stuff...it's not going anywhere! Most of the main traffic for the group (as is with most groups) is in the What Are You Reading? topic, as well as the group reads/group challenges.
I couldn't even finish the first book. I went to see the movie in China. Me & Jessica (another teacher) were laughing through so much of the movie. We were even shushed by some of the Chinese. LOL!
I read this trilogy so long ago and I've already re-read theme one before, but I just love them. They are so well written, just long enough, and so full of great characters. I am glad I am reading them again and I can't wait for Catching Fire in November!
We might have to try and set up a group buddy for CF before the movie, since we sort of did one for HG.
Oh me too! I just got my boyfriend to read the series, so I need to know what I'm talking about again. ;)
I really enjoyed this trilogy. I confess that, prior to the buzz about the first movie, I had never even heard about it. Then I went and got the trilogy and just burned through it in a weekend (seriously, I disappeared from the world for two days and resurfaced three books later).I loved the first two books. I felt that SC managed to get you heavily invested in the characters almost instantly and I loved finding out what happened to them.
(view spoiler)
But yes, all in all, loved the series! Can't wait for the other films!
I agree with Constance too! The books were great and I as well read them all in a whim after coming out from the theaters. I felt it was a really good series, and makes you think a lot. What do you think about (view spoiler)
Thanks for your comments.
I really enjoyed the first two books. "Mockingjay" was a little too political for me, and it was an effort to read it through to the end.

Yeah, when the first one lunged, I actually jumped almost into this guy's lap sitting next to me cos I was leaning so far over into him.. And I hollered really loud so I know his ear was ringing.. LOL
But he took it in stride & laughed his a** off at me.. and said "hey, I have absolutely no objection if you'll feel safer sitting in my lap" I was sooooo embarressed. He was kinda cute though ;)
