I'm late to the game, but I finally finished the first book and have the other 2 ordered and on the way to my house!! LOVED, I usually dislike distopian books so I put this book off for 2 years, but this book was an emotional rollar coaster and it was interesting to see a girl that obvlivous to Peeta's feelings to her! I can not wait to see the movie and dive into the next books!

I'm going alone this weekend sometime - not sure which show I will see yet. My husband will stay home with the kids so I can have some time to do something just "I" want to do. When I get home I will see about getting tickets. I can't wait. I am glad I reread it last weekend so it is all fresh and unless the movie is awful I don't think I will pick it apart. We should open a thread for those already seeing the movie so we can discuss it with out spoiling it for others.

Was listening to the second book in the car on the drive back to LA. I'd forgotten about the part at the beginning when they're at the party and they have the little glasses of clear liquid that can make them puke so they can keep eating. I made a comment on it the next day to my boyfriend, only to figure out that he'd fallen asleep during that part.

THG was the most fun my brother and I have had in a long time. It wasn't just the movie either. All his 'planning' was hilarious. He made us clear our schedules today. Then he had us pick something to keep us busy, (view spoiler) so we wouldn't be too bored waiting. I thought three hours was too long a wait. But we had a blast... and was I glad not to be on the end of this (view spoiler)On the movie...
I really enjoyed it even not having done a reread. It made me remember what I felt when I was reading certain scenes... (view spoiler)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Don't worry about starting a second thread Diane. Discussing the movie and how it compared to the book is the whole reason this thread was moved in here. All I ask is that if there are any plot spoilers that you think are big enough, place them behind spoilers. That way if there are people (like me!) who don't care, we can choose to read them, and it protects those who don't.Just like Isamlq did above me.
Isa, so jealous! I can't wait until tomorrow night so I can go see it!

Maree, I'd forgotten about that too until you mentioned it.Yes, I'm bad and had to look at Isa's spoilers. Wow, talk about a wait! I love that you illustrated with pictures.
2 more days for me. We had to get another ticket because the teen wants to go with, which surprised me. I figured he'd go with friends like he always does. It's kind of nice to go with both my husband and the kid though because it's the only book series that all 3 of us have read, so for the first time ever, I will get to have a book-to-movie conversation with my entire family (other than the little one).
awwww, that is very cool Stacia. I always wished I had kids during the Potter experience so I could take them to the midnight releases and the fun things.Isa, I am jealous. :) I wouldn't have been able to go anyway. Can't stand up without being sick. I hope it gets better for the weekend since my friend is coming up to see it with me.
Stacia, that sounds wonderful! I would feel the same way you do. I wish Lex was old enough. I'm not sure if I'll let her watch it yet, she's so young and it's so violent, lol.I've got my Peetariffic shirt on, and I'm so excited for tonight!
It's simple. It's black with a dark orange printing across the front that says 'Peetariffic!' and then under it in blue it says 'The Hunger Games'. My friends who's going with me is the exact same, except it says 'Galetastic!'.I plan on taking a picture tonight so you ladies can see.
I saw them doing the premere thing on TV last night and there was a 6 year old in line to see the movie and said her mom reads the book to her at night. I was just thinking that she was young for the violent content and of the book and the movie. I know my 7 year old would not be ready for that. I know each parent knows their child but feel they should let them be children and they can take this step when they are a bit more mature.

It's hard for me because growing up I could read everything and anything I could get my hands on and could understand it. I was younger than 12 when I read V.C. Andrews, and they contain incest. I was around 12 when I started picking up bodice rippers, lmao. I read Clan of the Cave Bear years and years before Outlander, and Outlander I read somewhere around 16.So needless to say, my moms thoughts were that I was reading at home with my nose in a book when other kids were playing Nintendo and watching TV. So she never really regulated that.
I tend to be the same way. Lex is 8. If she was at a reading level that suited it and she wanted to read it, I would let her. I'm not saying I'm going to put a bodice ripper or VC Andrews in her hands at 8, but the nice thing is that she's not on that reading level. Now at 12, well by then I already knew about sex and stuff just from television, sadly. At least in the bodice rippers it was about love.
Movies and television is different to me. There's something about reading words on a page and creating the images in your head that's... I don't know, it's not so jarring or scarring. Movies, all the realistic graphics, those are the things that really cause the nightmares. I'm not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me.
I'm waaay more apt to let Lex read anything she wants than I would be to let her watch any movie.
I'm constantly telling my husband that violent images do something to your soul. It desensitizes people. He laughs at me, lmfao.
Anyway, I haven't decided yet if she can watch it. I'm going to see it myself tonight and figure it out. It's got a PG-13 rating, and she's watched all the Harry Potters, which got violent. I've heard that the violence is toned down in the movie, which I assumed it would be to maintain a PG-13 rating. If that's the case, I'll let her watch at home with me.
I understand all children mature at different rates and a parent should know their child well enough to help with those decisions. I just feel that there are too many irresponsible parents out there that let their children see anything at any age. I work in an inner city K-8 school and kindergarteners and 1st graders idolize all the Jason and Halloween movies and can tell you all about Scarface and American Pie. They can describe acts of violence and sex acts in vivid detail because they have been exposed to these things BEFORE they even got to kindergarten. I just think kids should be kids first and there is a time to move on to more intense things as they mature.

Most definitely! Lex loves to watch 'scary' things. But really, the most I'd let her watch was Buffy the Vampire Slayer (select episodes). I admit to letting her watch IT. But I watched it first, and she actually thought it was funny. She's used to such extensive graphics now.

Awesome! Have a great time. I will be going Sunday evening, hopefully the crowds will be settled down a bit by then.

Have fun, Wendy! Those are awesome shirts :)
Ahh so jealous!! I was going to go saturday with a friend of mine, but she forgot and might not be able to...That's great to know it's that good!
Oh how exciting!! I'm glad it's getting good reviews, because I've already scheduled to see it twice with different friends, lol.

I want to read that spoiler! But I also want to be surprised with the movie. Well as much as you can be surprised with reading the book. Decisions, decisions...

I enjoyed the movie as well and kept looking for Effie's butterfly eyelashes. I did not like the shaky camera scenes, like the reaping. They may add to the feel of the movie, emotions and what not but I can't stand them in any movies. Loved the background scenes of the districts and all that Haymitch was doing!

We're leaving in a couple of hours to go. I found out my sister in law was upset that we didn't tell her we were going because she wanted to go with. Can't wait to come back and read the spoilers. :)
Ok, I removed the 'Major Spoilers' I had in my last post, because if you have read the books, well they're not really spoilers.I guess i just want people to be careful when reading my spoiler cause, well...it has some complaints about what I didn't like, and I don't want to put people off before they watch the movie.
The movie was good, not the best I've ever seen, but it was still good. =)

I also agree Carina about (view spoiler)
The person who surprised me the most was (view spoiler)
It was a pretty decent movie overall. I liked it. As a whole, the parts that were the most crucial were left in, so that's good.
Oh and we all got a laugh at the scene where Katniss and Peeta (view spoiler) because some guy yelled out, "OH NO SHE DIDN'T!"
So THGs showing my friend is going to is at the same time as Kentucky's Elite 8 game which pretty much means I have no clue when or with who I am seeing Hunger Games now. :(

It was awesome!!! Saw it today.. OMG!! I cried in all the exact parts I did when I was reading the book!So................ Yeah I'm super happy now with the choice of Peeta.. He played the role more than well.. They all did!
It was so good! I'm so glad you love Josh as Peeta. I thought he did so well! It was so good, I saw it twice! I want to go again.

AHHAHAHAHAHAhAhI need to see this. Tomorrow when I wanted to I now can't because of basketball. BUT I WANT TO SEE.
This is getting harder and harder.
I just got home from seeing it. Wow! I was not disappointed at all. I kept thinking how awesome it would be to be one of the artists working on the make up and costuming. They portrayed the Capitol so well and I too kept looking for those butterfly eyelashes until I saw them at the ore game interviews :) I also loved how they captured the poverty of Appalachia in district 12. I would have liked to hear a bit of the accent from the people though. It was a great movie in its self but I am not sure if I would have been as emotionally involved had I not read the book. They could have shown the bond between Gale and Katniss better as well as the bond between Rue and Katniss. I liked how they showed district 11's reaction to Rues death even though it strayed from the book because I think it sets hings up for the next movie ( that won come soon enough for me - I'm a glutton like that) I agree with the camera movement thing but got over that. There was not an actor that I felt did not do a great job or was not a good pick but Josh as Peeta really was impressive -2 thumbs up all the way. Now I can't wait to see it again!

I haven't seen it yet but I think Josh makes the perfect Peeta because if you watch Josh in the interviews he's so comfortable on camera and has a comfortable back and forth with the interviewer, which is totally like Peeta. I saw him on an interview with Liam Hemsworth and Alexander Ludwig (Gale and Cato) last week (before I read the book) and noticed how much more comfortable on camera and with the crowd Josh was. Even my sons commented on it. Then I read the book and realized that's exactly how Peeta is. I still ♥ Gale though. ;)

Wendy F wrote: "It was so good! I'm so glad you love Josh as Peeta. I thought he did so well! It was so good, I saw it twice! I want to go again."LOL! I do think he did an excellent job as Peeta, I thought the guy playing Gale did great too.. and of course Ms. Katniss kick butt as well.. And Lenny as Cinna.... RAWR!
Yeah the mob was out when I went yesterday.. and my shirt isnt ready still but my undies were! ;)
So when I go back to see it, I'm gonna be "Peeta deck out" #hardcore# :D
