1) Font staying where it was from book to book. So if I switch from one book to another, I don't have to keep switching the font. Barring that, a much simpler way to change them, ala the Kindle.

2) Better shelf memory. Take me right to my just added books, not to books that have already been shelved.

3) Memory of my last place read if I lose my place. I've heard the Nook used to have this and it needs it back.

4) A remote control locating device! :-)

message 2: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice I agree with you on all of your points. however my nook does #3. Do you have the 1st generation nook?

message 3: by willaful, dedicated nookworm (new)

willaful | 414 comments Mod
I'm not sure - I have B&W with 3G and wifi. I thought I'd read here that this feature disappeared in a software update.

message 4: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice I have the same one. When I first got it it had it. And with the 2 new upgrades that they have done it's still there. Are you punching the button on the bottom that says 'reading now'?

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. The Nook will generally keep my place, but sometimes the options will come on unexpectedly and I'll hit a button that makes it go back to the beginning. If I try the "reading now" button, it will take me back to the beginning.

I guess what I should have said was "furthest place read."

message 6: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice Yes that is what it does. You just have to be careful not to accidentally hit a button on the bottom. Your touch pad must be really sensitive. I have not had that happen to me. Yet. (crossing fingers).

message 7: by Tiennie (new)

Tiennie | 15 comments Hmm. I have the Nook color and it does 1-3 but not 4. Seems my nook is always with me. :)

Well, see, I need the feature so I don't have to be super careful all the time when I'm trying to enjoy my book. :-)

message 9: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice I totally agree. So that means I'm on board with all of the options that you want! I also hate the fact that it's so hard to flip back to pages that you've read to find something that I have a question about.

message 10: by willaful, dedicated nookworm (new)

willaful | 414 comments Mod
Another one: I want a button that shows all the books I'm currently reading.

message 11: by Tiffmoney (new)

Tiffmoney | 6 comments 2. You can choose on your nook how to organize your library. You can organize by "most recent" and it will take you to the books you've most recently purchased first.

3. As for 3, do you have multiple nooks on one account? Otherwise, you shouldn't be having that problem. If you're touching of the keypad is accidentally resetting you back you would have had to press multiple buttons to do this. So, perhaps there is an issue with the nook.

message 12: by willaful, dedicated nookworm (new)

willaful | 414 comments Mod
I'm already set up to sort by most recent, so that's not helping.

No multiple accounts. Possibly there is a problem with it. I don't I'll even know.

message 13: by Editio (new)

Editio (editiomedia) | 2 comments Wow these are all really good ideas. I think I would like the price lowered, maybe thats just me.

I miss the furthest read feature as well. I have finally learned to bookmark the page I am on before turning over the Nook to a friend so they could look at it. It never fails, everytime the Nook leaves my hands the person either goes back or forward a couple of pages, or back to the cover. I have also lost my place when I have gone back a chapter to remember who a character is. Bookmark, bookmark, bookmark.

message 16: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL I would like for there to be a way to see whether I've already read a book or not while I am in the library. Or even show the last page read.

And I'd love to be able to delete things directly from the Nook. I will often download a Preview and then I don't need it anymore. I have to mess around while the Nook is plugged into the computer to try to find the file to delete it. I know I can archive, but I'd rather just delete!

message 17: by willaful, dedicated nookworm (last edited Aug 24, 2011 09:41PM) (new)

willaful | 414 comments Mod
I was thinking we could delete, but have just figured out that's only in "my documents."

message 18: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL I'm not sure how to delete. I have one of the new touch-screen Nooks and I thought I had even read somewhere that it was possible to delete off the old ones, but not the new ones.

I am using Calibre, which helps. But the big issue is that my library books stay on the list even after they have expired -- you just can't open them. So they are adding clutter!!

message 19: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Crain | 88 comments RE: KEEPING TRACK OF BOOKS I'VE READ - I created a shelf for books I have read and as soon as I have finished book I move it over there. Then later I can delete them when since on my pc if I want, or still have them available in case I want to reread one.

I do wish we had the delete option for b&n direct purchases direct on the Book. I can delete from the my docs directory and from the pc sync, of course. But it would ne convenient to us e a delete option available.

I have the new Nook Touch and mine does 1-3.
1. Same font from book to book unless its been formatted weird then I may have to increase the size of the font but this happens rarely and mostly with books not purchased from B&N or Indie books.

2. Right on the home screen it tells you the lastest books you've purchased. You can also sort your library by most recent.

3. Because the whole screen is a touch screen I also go back to the home screen when I am taking a break from reading so when I open my book again it is on the page that I left off.

4. Don't need because my Nook is always with me.

Since I have a strong suspecion a Nook Touch is in my near future, that's good to know. :-)

My reading is frequently interrupted and I seem to leave my Nook every damn place. On top of my jewelry box. On the piano seat. I've been finding new flat surfaces that I never even noticed before.

message 22: by willaful, dedicated nookworm (new)

willaful | 414 comments Mod
Shoot, I thought the Nook touch showed all the books you were currently reading, but it doesn't seem to.

message 23: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (lindseybond) I have the Nook Simple Touch and I would love a way to organize shelves from the computer. I find it to be really tiring to go through each book on the Nook and add them individually to a shelf. I would much rather be able to drag and drop a bunch at a time.

message 24: by Gina (new)

Gina (sagenundlegenden) I have a Nook Touch and love it. However, I would be over the moon if they got a note-taking feature. I'm a scribbler, it helps me process books, and I'd like to use the Nook for research as well as fun reads.

On that note, more availability of Nook books and especially of nonfiction and out-of-the-way titles.

willaful | 414 comments Mod
I read today about a "MyNook" application for the computer that's supposed to be coming soon, perhaps that will be a feature? Would be awesome. Organzing the shelves is very tiresome.

The Touch does have a note taking feature, a much better one than the old Nook. Hold down whatever you want to highlight for a few seconds and it will bring it up. Then you can get to it from the "contents" selection in the book navigation bar.

message 26: by Mgray (new)

Mgray | 12 comments I have the white nook. It is my second one. I wish page turning was a little easier on the thumbs. My Dad has the nook touch. I haven't used it enough to know how it feels on the thumbs.

message 27: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 340 comments Mgray, I think the page turning is a lot easier on the thumbs because you can do in multiple ways. You can either press one of the actual buttons on the sides. Press the right side of the screen or swipe your finger to the left. Any of these turns the pages so if I have caught myself doing it multiple ways.

message 28: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mgauffant) | 86 comments I'd love to be able to return books I borrow through lend me on my nook, without having to go online, and do it through there.
I also have a pandigital novel reader, which is pre-loaded with BN. I can returned borrowed books directly through that device without having to log into my BN account online.
It doesn't make sense to me that one device, with BN software has it, but the "actual" BN device doesn't.
Also, I'd love to be able to Synch both devices to my same reading page.
If they carry BN software, it should automatically synch with a Nook reader..only makes sense to me!!

message 29: by Missyb (new)

Missyb | 221 comments For the Simple Touch
1. I'd love to see a spot that shows your recently added books, and not by sorting it that way. I like it sorted by author.
2. I also wish it didn't show books you don't own on the bottom and cram what you're reading in the corner. The screen is so busy.

For the Color
1.I'd love to see a folder that you're recently added books went to automatically in your library as well as they showed up in the order that you've set your Nook (I chose to sort by Author) to sort.
2. I'd also like an easier way to shelf books. I can't always get an option to add to a shelf when I press & hold a book. It depends on where it is whether I get that option or not. If the book is on my home page then I cannnot.
3. I'd also like to be able to choose where something went on my Nook when I send it there while using the cord.

This drives me crazy!!! I can't stand not having my place if I choose to read on a different device!! Is there no known solution for this or does it just flat out not work?? I haven't been to B&N to be able to ask yet.

message 32: by Valencia (new)

Valencia (empowered) | 69 comments 1. I'd love to have something like Reading Life and/or Kobo Pulse. BN so need to jack some ideas from the Kobo Vox :) I'd love to be able to see my reading stats like on the Reading Life function.

2. I'd love to be able to rate and review my books on my NC without having to upload to BN.com or having to be hooked up to wifi.

3. Easier shelving function. Like being able to shelve the books on the BN.com account and it sink with the device. Or having an option to have 'sticky' shelves like on Goodreads. That way when adding books to a shelf, books on 'sticky' shelves won't even show up. Also, it'd be great that when you pull up book details you'd be able to see what shelves a book is on.

4. A more controlled way to sort books in the library and on shelves. The shelves part is my main concern. I have a lot of series organized on the same shelf. The shelf is where it can also be organized by author, but I'd still like to be able to put the actual books in the order I want them on the shelf.

message 35: by Missyb (new)

Missyb | 221 comments I'd like to see an option to delete a book from the Nook Simple Touch.

Currently you have to plug it in to your computer and try to find the book and delete it. I've tried using Calibre to delete stuff and still have books that I eliminated the duplicates on Calibre, yet the duplicates still show up on my Nook. It's frustrating.

message 36: by willaful, dedicated nookworm (new)

I've also found that I can't delete books via Calibre. I use ADE to delete books on my Touch, but of course that also requires plugging it in. They're easy to find, though.

Thanks for the info, I'll give that a try instead. I can delete & fix info on books in Calibre without a prob, but it doesn't carry over to the Simple Touch. maybe I'm skipping a step, like not snycing it or something before disconnecting the Simple Touch.

message 38: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (bebop67) 1. Ability to export/import notes and annotations.
2. An easier way to remove books off your shelf without connecting your USB cord.
3. A cloud box.
4. Ability to highlight hyphenated text.

Yes! to # 1 I want to be able to export my fave notes and highlighted quotes! I know they have that on the Kindle, but syncing it would be amazing, I never want to shelve, archive or delete some of my books with lots of highlights and annotations cause I'm afraid of losing that info.

When you are done reading on device A (for example) you have to hit the sync button. When you go to device B (for example) you have to hit the sync button before you read. If you do these steps the devices will be synced.

Gianne (willowhippo) | 3 comments The dictionary. It's decent but could be upgraded way better. For example, say, I don't understand what is 'oscillating' and I tap on it to look it up. Then I would get 'to oscillate'. You can't tap on that to find out what 'oscillate' means, which beats the purpose of the dictionary.

There is also no internal dictionary to manually type the word in.

These fixes would be great!

that dictionery makes you want to contact the people and say "oscillating means to oscillate, really you think so"

message 48: by Erika (new)

Erika | 1 comments I'd like to be able to make notes on my nook.(no, I'm not talking about the notes function when highlighting a part of the book) I'm talking about making notes outside the book. Sometimes i want to write something down, like a list of books i saw, or a page or quote from a book i saw while walking by at b&n and I can't do it. And it would be very convenient.

message 49: by Valencia (new)

Valencia (empowered) | 69 comments There's a free app called Fliq Notes that might work for you :)

message 50: by Jean (new)

Jean French (jfrench55) | 82 comments There are so many good recommendations for the Nook. My one request would be for B&N to actually listen to their customers especially if they want to compete with Amazon.
