Modiglian | 3 comments it was a book for children or pre-teens. the boy had a simple name. (Harry maybe.) he somehow obtained an oil or ointment in a little vial. when he rubbed it into his back, he sprouted wings and flew around for hours at a time. but the ointment wore off after a while. he was able to keep it secret all during summer vacation i think and by the time he had to go back to school, he was all out. but all the summer's flying put him in excellent condition for the upcoming year of school sports. the author was a woman and noted author of childrens books, may even have one or more awards. read sometime between 1976-78.

please help me with the title.

thank you.

Black and Blue Magic by Zilpha Keatley Snyder

Description:
Twelve-year-old Harry Houdini Marco is awkward and clumsy, bearing little resemblance to his magician namesake, until he acquires the gift of flight.

From back cover:
"You must be very careful Harry!" The strange Mr. Mazzeeck warns before he leaves. "this magic oil is extremely powerful. And re,member: no one must ever find out!"

"Find out what?" Harry wonders now. Carefully he rubs the oil into his shoulders, and feels a strong tingling sensation. He rushes to the mirror and sees them-spreading out behind him, from his head to his ankles!
"Wings!" Harry gasps. As he fans them slowly, he feels himself lift off the ground.
"whoopee!" he shouts. "I can fly!"
