Leigha | 4 comments Hi everyone! My name is Leigha and I live in Canada. I belong to a GN book club that meet to discuss novels every month for about a year and a half. I love the medium and just want to be exposed to so many more titles. Some of my Favorite include Essex County, Stitches, The Long Halloween, Old Man Logan, and Super Man Red Son. I have long been a supee hero fan and always have my nose in the Marvel universe, with the exception of Batman. I want to learn more about non hero related titles.

Hi there Chris, welcome.

Here's a recommendation for you. You seem to like Vertigo comics so maybe you'll enjoy Preacher.

JP What's up gang?

My name is a Jason and while I've read comics intermittently for the last year or two, I've been on the grind of late. One of my best friend's is a huge comic/graphic novel fan and he put me on to a number of series including: Y the Last Man, Walking Dead, Northlanders, and Invincible. I'm currently reading Watchmen. Look forward to meeting you all.

message 262: by Robert (new)

Robert (statnut) | 8 comments Hello,

Big fan of graphic novels, so I thought I'd join this group. I've been catching up on some of the new Marvel stuff, and some old Marvel stuff recently (Busiek's Avengers run for example). I stick only to graphic novels, as I don't have time or space for single issues. Looking forward to jumping into the next reading discussion if possible.

message 263: by Matt (new)

Matt Clark Hi everybody,

I've just recently started using goodreads after signing up a while back and was delighted to find this graphic novel group. I've been reading comics my whole life and I still avidly read graphic novels and TPB's.

Lately I've been reading Locke & Key, Mouse Guard, and anything Mike Mignola has a hand in.

message 265: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) Hi, I'm Anna and I'm addicted to comics. It's only gotten worse in the last year. Wed is my new favorite day of the week. I know all the staff at Titan Comics by name. I fear there's no hope for me.
I started out with a small Kabuki craving, which developed into daily abuse of Y: The Last Man, Preacher, and Fables. It's a full fledged habit at this point and joining this group will surely exacerbate the problem.
I'm currently reading Saga, I,Vampire, Gambit, Mind the Gap, Before Watchmen, Revival, and Fairest (kind of-I mostly want the Adam Hughes covers.) I'm delving into Runaways, considering Aquaman and Batwoman, and looking forward to Halloween Eve by Amy Reeder.

message 266: by Margreet (new)

Margreet Heer | 34 comments Welcome to the club, fellow addict! :)

message 267: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) Why, thank you :)

message 268: by Sam (new)

Sam Quixote (samquixote) Hey guys!

Big fan of comics since I was a kid, now in my late 20s I'm still in love with them.

I enjoy the mainstream stuff put out by the Big 2 (DC + Marvel) as well as indie stuff published by Drawn and Quarterly, Top Shelf, Fantagraphics, IDW, and Dark Horse.

I read and review a lot of comics but I'm hoping to pick up some good recommendations and hopefully have some interesting discussions on comics too.

message 269: by Mark (new)

Mark McGinty | 4 comments Hi folks! Just joined and wanted to introduce you to a new graphic novel coming out on October 6th called Kmart Shoes. It's a raw, in-your-face style autobiography by a talented cartoonist named Lance Ward. You can read all about it at the book's Goodreads page! There is a free giveaway going on now so join up!!

Kumar Mehta | 6 comments Hi All,

I'm Amit from India. I've been a comic fan since my childhood. While growing up, I mostly used to read comics which used to publish in India in my native language(Hindi). I can't recollect, but for some reason, I had stopped reading comics, until recently I came across the intriguing world of zombies, the undead and the goon, created by Eric Powell and since then I've been glued to Graphic novels. I haven't read too many but so far I've enjoyed reading Alan Moore(didn't like Neonomicon),Garth Ennis, Scott Snyder, Eric Powell,Craig Thompson and Frank Miller. These days I'm reading "Maus". I think this group is a nice place to explore the ever expanding world of Graphic novels by getting to know each others recommendation and opinions.

message 273: by Claudia (last edited Sep 24, 2012 04:01PM) (new)

Claudia V Hello All!!

I'm Claudia from the Bay Area :c) So I just started reading graphic novels. I had read Watchmen (which I did enjoy) and randomly picked up Sandman while hanging out at a friends house and decided I needed to read more! I tend to like Noir and some fantasy. I'm finishing up Locke and Key (LOVING IT!) and about to pick up Sleeper after reading Incognito. I think I'm in love with Brubaker and Phillips :c)
Anyways, being such a noob I am looking forward to discovering other awesome stories to follow. :c)

message 274: by Orin (new)

Orin | 2 comments Hey everybody. The names Orin and I live in Natchez, MS. I've been reading comics on and off for about 10 years now and just found this group about a week ago. Can't wait to dive into next months reading list.

message 276: by O'Brian (new)

O'Brian Gunn (obrian_gunn) | 4 comments Hi guys,

My name's O'Brian and I'm a comic book nerd. Currently I'm working my way through the Irredeemable series by Mark Waid. Some of my favorites series include Sin City, Watchmen, Red Robin and I've recently gotten into The Walking Dead. Kirkman's Invincible series also sounds interesting.

Other than that I'm also a writer who likes to write about superheroes. You can actually check out some of my work on JukePop Serials. My story "Dark on the Rock " is about four genetically and cybernetically enhanced teenaged supersoldiers who are "rescued" and taken in by the very superheroes they were designed to kill. I also have work that will be featured on Super Flash Fiction and Chaos Theory: Tales Askew.

I'm looking forward to participating in the group and any recommendations you all may have.

Here's a link to "Dark on the Rock.'' Feel free to comment and vote for it if you like what you read. I plan on adding a new episode every Friday.

Take care, guys!

message 277: by Bob (new)

Bob | 12 comments Hi, my name is Bob and I joined the group a couple of weeks ago so I figured it's about time that I introduced myself. I'm a comic junkie and there is no cure so I score comics wherever I can get them. I go to two local comic shops around my area and there is one or two internet sites that I like to visit. Right now I'm reading Justice League "Cry for Justice" and the art and story are breath taking. Thanks to the people who started this group. Take Care everyone.

Locke & Key might be my favorite thing EVER. So good. SO GOOD.

Oh, hello! I'm Kelly (or Kellybeth for long, kb for short). Never really read comics as a kid, probably got into this sort of thing with Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and of course, Sandman. I haven't read too much superhero type stuff, but I am open-minded. I love words and art, and feel that any subject can be done well (and can also be done quite badly, of course).

I work at a library, mainly in the Children's section (where I do read quite a lot of kids books - nothing wrong with that, right?)

Enjoying reading posts in this group, so I thought I should introduce myself :)

message 281: by Mike (new)

Mike (mikeberggren) Hi there, I'm Mike from Santa Cruz CA. I'm thrilled to have found a reading group on here specializing in graphic novels. I've been reading comics off and on for the past 10-15 years but only recently started getting into it more seriously (with the introduction of DC's new 52). Looking forward discussing this with great folks in this group.

message 282: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone! My name is Hannah and I'm from the UK. I joined this group to meet new people and have some pretty amazing conversations with folk that have an interest in comic books and anime!

I've been looking for a new group that has an interest in comic books and this group seems lively, so I'd thought I might join it here. Looking through the replies to this thread, people are real welcoming and nice so I am staying here for a very long time!

I'm looking forward for mingling and hopefully meeting new people in this group and to also find more interesting comic books!:)

message 283: by Sérgio (new)

Sérgio | 459 comments Hello Kelly, Mike and Hannah

Welcome! :)

45th Parallel Communications (45thParallel) Hello!

We represent several publishers, one of whom has published comics and graphic novels: Arsenal Pulp Press. Their latest release is Escape to Gold Mountain: A Graphic History of the Chinese in North America, which comes out this November. I also recommend The Anti-Capitalist Resistance Comic Book: From the WTO to the G20 for readers who prefer alternative or political comics.

We'd love to hear suggestions for other small, independent presses who publish graphic novels, too!

message 285: by Periklis (new)

Periklis Hi, I'm glad I discovered your group. I've been reading comics from a young age, but started reading (& collecting) again as a "new" reader a decade ago, when I discovered the works of Miller, Moore & Ennis. My favorite books are either written & drawn by British authors, European auteurs (like Hermann) or have cinematic storytelling (like Paul Gulacy's books). I have nothing against superhero books, in fact I enjoy reading them, but I prefer short storylines and not in the monthly/crossover/etc format, which is difficult to find in the genre.
Sorry for the long post, I hope to discover new books in this group!

message 286: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (victoriairina) Hi everyone!! I'm Victoria from New Jersey and I am 13 years old... I love reading and I can finish a book in about a week! I am thrilled to be in your group. Hope I made the right choice!! See you around...

message 288: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 5 comments Hi everyone. As with many people, I used to collect comics when I was young. After a long time away from them, I've started reading again, mostly due to the convergence of The Walking Dead and the iPad. :-)

message 289: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Holliday (bonafidecomics) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Jeremy and have been reading comics all my life. I got started on kids stuff here in the UK like The Beano, Tintin, Asterix and then discovered underground comics.

I've been picking up Graphic Novel gems whenever I can ever since and am involved in creating some of my own.

Especially keen on European stuff and quirky off the wall stories.

message 290: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Clough (brendaclough) | 163 comments I am Brenda W. Clough, and I have been reading comic books since the '60's. The GN format is far easier to handle than long boxes of fragile comic books!

message 291: by Tim (new)

Tim Liedl (tliedl) Hi, Tim here. Geek for 27 years. I'm embarrassed to say though I didn't start reading comics until the day I saw The Avengers in the theater. When I walked out I went straight to my local comic distribution center, and I've been there ever since. Look forward to interacting and getting recommended books!

message 292: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebat) Hello everyone, my name is Katie and I've just begun reading comics. My first was Tanpopo vol. 1 by Camilla d'Erico. After my comic-loving friend explained to me that it was an "indie" comic and that the author/illustrator had only been able to publish the first volume after extensive fundraising and would not be publishing the second volume for a while, I had a tantrum and then went on a hunt for similar stories and art. It took some time but I eventually found an odd niche in the comic world and now I'm reading The Sandman, The Crow, Nightmares and Fairytales, and once it arrives in the mail I'll be on to Gaiman's Death series. I'm really eager to find more authors and illustrators I will like so I am always open to suggestions :)

Sérgio | 459 comments Welcome Kourtney, Kevin, Jeremy, Brenda, Tim and Katie :)

message 294: by Gaijinmama (new)

Gaijinmama | 5 comments Hi, I'm Gaijinmama and I'm glad to be here. I'm from Connecticut and Los Angeles but now I live permanently here in the Land of the Rising Sun, inundated with manga and anime. Honestly, I am not a fan of manga myself (See above. Inundated.) but I cut my teeth on Wendy Pini's Elfquest in the '80's and I also love the work of Alan Moore, Robert Kirkman, Neil Gaiman and James O'Barr.
Don't mind a bit of Batman and X-Men, either.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

message 295: by Tim (new)

Tim Grudzinski | 2 comments My name is Tim and Im in Omaha, Neb. 55 years old and reading comics since, well, before I could read. BS in broadcast journalism and political science, masters in history.
Only read DC comics (severe brand loyalty) 10-12 titles a month, mainly superman & batman. First GN I read was Watchmen, though my favorite is Identity Crisis. Looking forwad to future discussions.

How is the Hunger Games fan club applicable to comics/graphic novels?"

Yeah. Apparently Faith just joined to spread the word about her group, since she already left this group.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to publicize something here but since she did it in a completely off-topic manner I guess I'll delete her post. :(

message 297: by Sérgio (new)

message 299: by Harrison (new)

Harrison Hi all~

Once an avid reader of graphic novels, but have been out of the fray for a while now. My last graphic read of any kind were the short story anthologies, Flight, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I'm looking for suggestions and inspirations, as I illustrate and write myself. Looking forward to getting in on the conversation!

Christy Hello all. I am Christy, from Central California, currently living in Northwest Ohio. Eight years ago I got introduced to the worlds of SciFi and graphic novels through the works of Joss Whedon and Neil Gaiman and have branched of from there. I am excited about this new website/app discovery, I am hoping it will be a good way to find my new favorite works of literature through peers reviews.
