That's also how I read Dresden when i found the books. These are the series I rate 2nd on my UF list. Glad you're enjoying them.

message 4352: by Eileen (new)

Eileen They're very entertaining and a fast read, hard to put down. I have to get back to Dresden soon, I have a few more to read.

I envy you...

Has anyone read Leather, Denim & Silver: Legends of the Monster Hunter? I saw it on someone's read list and it looked interesting. It says there's a Kindle edition, but there isn't. Must have been discontinued. I checked Amazon and the least expensive used is around $67... there's a new one for over $2000.

It may be a while before I get to read this one or it's sequels.

message 4354: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I haven't read it, Mike. I looked it up and it does look interesting. That's a hefty price $2000 was it printed in gold? ; )

I don't know...maybe.

:)

I've been wondering if maybe it was published in the UK and never got started over here or something. There is an entire series of the books. They look like an interesting series of books but I'd never heard of them.

I just went looking. Some of the later collections of stories are listed very inexpensively. One I think is free on Kindle. I think I'll try one of those. My OCD had me stuck on the first volume.

No, $2.99 and $3.99 I got Both Barrels of Monster Hunter Legends on my kindle.

message 4358: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Thanks for doing the research! It pays to have OCD.

Eileen I'd have given up to easily.

Well...I almost feel obligated to start "series" from Vol.1 but it (finally) occurred to me that these were short story collections so why not get the second? Anyway, read the first story and it's pretty good, not great but a good werewolf story.

message 4361: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I agree with you on having to start a series from the beginning unless someone tells me it doesn't matter. I thinks that's only happened once that I can remember. Inevitably, its best to start at the beginning.

message 4362: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments Haruki murakami has a series the rat. The first 2 in the series were his first novels so I had to only read 3 &4 because 1&2 same thing start at $175 and go up into the thousands

Rizwan Khalil Reading White Night (The Dresden Files, #9) by Jim Butcher ... I just CAN'T seem to keep my hands (and eyes) off from Dresden Files! Rollins' most eagerly awaited 10th Sigma Force novel The 6th Extinction by James Rollins have to wait for a few days.

J. (jdrew) | 140 comments Hi all, a couple of things - Mistborn, liked all three books in that series (might be a fourth now - memory lapse?), recommended it to my granddaughter who reads 20 books for every one I do and she liked it too. She reads way above her age. Dresden books I read the first few and then gave up on them. Seemed to be too "formula" as I saw it, same stuff-going-wrong thing that he'd work out of somehow. Lastly, checked at two local bookstores and no Lonesome Dove. Might try Half Price Books next. Have a great Friday, everyone.

Eileen Finished Taken and thought it was great. Moved on to Harry Dresden and Proven Guilty about half way done. Another fun read.

Seeley James (seeleyjames) | 367 comments I'm struggling through
I Am Pilgrim (Pilgrim, #1) by Terry Hayes
which is addicting, fascinating, and aggravating at the same time. The level of finely detailed research Terry Hayes put in is outstanding, but at times it's like, "C'mon dude, can we get the story moving now?" But then every little detail has a reason, so ... I don't know if I love or hate this book :) It is a LONG one.

Peace, Seeley

Okay, back for a bit. I've got my "summer break" from today until 4 September... 2 more semesters to go.

I haven't been idle in the reading.

I did manage to read a wonderful history non-fiction book about the first world war. I thought it was very enlightening and managed to touch on some of the side stories and questions of the Great War that I hadn't even heard about. It's a great one book volume for the history of "The War to End All Wars." A World Undone: The Story of the Great War, 1914 to 1918 by G.J. Meyer

A World Undone The Story of the Great War, 1914 to 1918 by G.J. Meyer

I managed to finish book three of the Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon and started book 4. Mister Slaughter was wonderful. Not as funny as book two, but just as well written.

Mister Slaughter (Matthew Corbett, #3) by Robert McCammon

I also snuck in a short but entertaining cozy mystery, Fire And Ice by Dana Stabenow. Stabenow does the great white north justice and the characters are really warm, wondrful and quirky (in a good way). It's not a blood and guts slasher movie want to be and the mystery is challenging and interesting to read.

Fire And Ice (Liam Campbell, #1) by Dana Stabenow

None of those are particularly "action/adventure" stories, but they are good.

I did manage to read book 4 of the Jack Campbell. The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier, which is really The Lost Fleet 9. That series is good, this book is okay, but I liked the first three better. Steadfast

David Dalton | 152 comments I knocked out a Primal novella: PRIMAL Inception by Jack Silkstone (love this series) the other day.

Prior to that I hit some bad luck and read two clunkers:

Hot Pursuit (quite possibly the WORST book I have ever read. Hard to believe this is the same author who wrote Nothing Lasts Forever (basis for the 1st Die Hard film). I gave it 1-star AND that was being generous.

And The Tempest I think I gave this 2-stars, hard to remember as I am trying to forget that I ever read these 2 books. Not quite the worst book I ever read, but darn close to it. Thank goodness I did not spend any money on them as I read these last two books as part of my trail period of Kindle Unlimited.

But I am back on track now: reading a YA thriller Reboot (Reboot, #1) by Amy Tintera and a Dirk Pitt clone ~ Hawke (Alexander Hawke, #1) by Ted Bell .

I just wish the author wasn't just starting so I could keep going! Starting in on some Ludlum now. Er, I guess Ludlum written by Kyle Mills. Robert Ludlum's The Ares Decision

Okay. Just finished the second Longmire book. I'll probably go 4 on it when I review it. Laid November Man aside. may try it again later. Just wanted to read something else. Crusade was good. The others I had going are just so-so.

Well into Malice...seems good. It took a while to start moving (some epic fantasies do) but I'm nearly half way in now and I'm pretty interested.

Thanks for asking...You reading anything good?

Percival Constantine (percivalconstantine) I just finished reading The Adventures of Gravedigger by Barry Reese:

The Adventures of Gravedigger by Barry Reese

Fun, pulpy adventure story. If you've never read Reese's The Rook Volume 1-Special Edition or The Adventures of Lazarus Gray, both those characters have cameos in Gravedigger, but it's by no means required that you be familiar with them in advance (although those are also recommended books).

David Dalton | 152 comments I just started reading what looks to be a fun action thriller (like something out of the 80's action film lines.....): Killer in Black by Paul Bennett by Paul Bennett. Four "retired" mercenaries come to the aid of a 5th in a west Texas town, corrupt sheriff and senator...oh yeah, Billy Jack and Lone Wolf McQuade here I come again!

Book Description: In a small town in Texas five ex-mercenaries reunite when one of their number, Red, half Comanche, half Texan, is threatened. Presidential candidate Senator O'Hara likes to keep his town whiter than snow and everybody firmly in their place and he's taken a dislike to Red. The town's sheriff won't risk his job by helping so it's down to Johnny Silver and his band of comrades to sort out the matter. The resultant attacks escalate from a simple poisoning of the ranch's water supply, through frightening off the workers, to a full-scale war with a fifty-strong gang of bikers. And pulling the strings is their most formidable foe yet - a professional assassin, the Killer in Black. Are Johnny's team still strong enough to take on the challenges posed by the unknown enemy? Or have they finally met their match?
