Tracy | 115 comments I just finished The Gods of Guilt (Mickey Haller, #5) by Michael Connelly and I can't believe it's already the 5th Mickey book. Connelly is just an awesome author.

Seeley James (seeleyjames) | 367 comments did I mention South by Lance Charnes already? sorry, I've been trying to kick the social media habit, or at least get it under control :)

I can highly recommend SOUTH as a great futuristic thriller. I've posted a review on GR and on my site.

I'm revisiting an old fun story. The Adventures of Hobart Flynn and Alacrity Fitzhugh. Better known as a trilogy that starts with "Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds by Brian Daley. It's been too long to remember it, but it is as I remembered it. That means fun and funny. Future earth is kind of socialist (left of me...if that can be imagined) but... it's the future and the story is fun. (We earthlings become such assholes in a few centuries.)

the other two in the trilogy are Jinx on a Terran Inheritance and Fall of the White Ship Avatar.

Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds (Alacrity FitzHugh & Hobart Floyt, #1) by Brian Daley Jinx on a Terran Inheritance (Alacrity FitzHugh & Hobart Floyt, #2) by Brian Daley Fall of the White Ship Avatar (Alacrity FitzHugh & Hobart Floyt, #3) by Brian Daley

David Dalton | 152 comments I'm re-reading Hunter by James Byron Huggins right now as well. Only 1999? I read it years ago and this is the book that got me hooked on Huggins. Tons of action! I have this book listed on my Favorites Shelf and on my Profile Shelf. I have read all of his action thrillers and have them ALL but Hunter in my library right now. When Hunter was put on sale for only $0.99 I jumped on that deal. I plan to get all his other titles as well on my Kindle for a chance to re-read. I just don't like reading a regular book anymore and right now his other titles are a buck off at $3.99.

Try Cain by James Byron Huggins or one of my All-Time favorite books: The Reckoning by James Byron Huggins , which is also on my Favorites & Profile Shelves.

***
At the same time I am reading: Headhunter by Tim Curran by Tim Curran (a bigfoot in Vietnam?)

and

The Retreat #1 Pandemic by Craig DiLouie , a zombie like story with the military thrown in. On sale for only $0.99.

message 3957: by Dave (new)

Dave Edlund (dedlund) I also purchased the Kindle version of "Hunter" by JB Huggins, having read it originally as paperback in about 2000. About half way through, and I still love the story, but perhaps I'm a bit more critical now than I was back then. One thing I don't understand, it seems that a lot of Kindle books--Hunter being one example--are full of errors.

Thanks for the recommendations--I have not sample any other works of Huggins, but will certainly read some of his other books.

Jinx on a Terran Inheritance (Alacrity FitzHugh & Hobart Floyt, #2) by Brian Daley

I'm not enjoying the second of the Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floytt Adventure trillogy. These are great. Just like I remember them, save I'm getting more of the puns and jokes. It's really an adventure story, complete with battles and gunfights and such.. .and even sexy lady with scarlet dermal stain...(what ever that is, but it sounds exotic).

There are some wonderful adventures here.... and remember, if you ever get hired on as a mourner at a Croi funeral (next time your in that edge of space that is) make sure you eat a very full lunch...

and maybe some syrup of ippykack (sp).

(The Grand Ecomium! LOL...boy, you won't get that one until you read this, but... I bet you'll use it after you do!)

My current "favorite quote of the day" from "Requiem for A Ruler of Worlds" by Brian Daley.

"Not a bad planet, as a matter of fact. Practicing law for money there will earn you public impalement."

Now, that's my kind of planet!

Rizwan Khalil So very eagerly waiting for the The Sixth Extinction!!

Finished Amazonia some days ago, and though its a typical awesome Rollins thrill-ride, I felt that the loud climax seemed a bit out of place and didn't really go with the book's overall philosophy of Man vs. Nature and it's hushed skincrawling psychological terror of the unknown, not to mention the villain felt cartoonish. But anyway, thats just nitpicking on my side. The book is a solid 9 out of 10 in my opinion.

I cheat. I go with Audible on a lot of books. I can download at a moments notice and as I said listen when I do "other stuff". I'm backed up on E-books (2 of those going now with "a bunch" waiting) have a couple of paperbacks started. I'm sending some library books back unread so i can get back to "my own" books, LOL.

I love Audible...of course I also spend more there than I should.

message 3968: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I have this love hate relationship going with audible myself. It's okay to cheat with audio books I do it all the time, lol. My palms begin to sweat when I'm running low on book credits.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
Oh I know. They always offer a "3 credits for..." deal a couple of days before my new credit is due if I'm down to 1 credit. And I usually buy them.

message 3970: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments I have read 51 books this year all audio all from audible. I am still only 60% done with the only kindle book I've been reading all year so far. Not that it's a bad book it's just as Mike says you can multi task with audio books and now I find the voices in my head lack the talent that many narrators have. I bore myself with my reading. Currently I have 2 credits left that I've been trying to not use because I know I'll buy another 25 and it is getting quite pricy buying 25 credits a month. On the other hand I used to spend $1000 a month on beer and cigarettes and since I gave that lifestyle up 5 years ago audio books seem a better way to spend my money.

message 3971: by Eileen (new)

Eileen One of the many things I like about Audible is there return policy. I've only had to do it a couple times. It was very easy, no questions asked.

Now that's impressive Travis. I'll have to check out your lists of books. Lately I've been listening to books more then "reading" them.

I've returned a few books to Audible, and you're right they're always helpful and it goes well. Another thing, I won't use a credit on a book that's $13 or less...I mean my monthly dies are $14. So I end up buying some $10 books or something as well as buying extra credits.

message 3983: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt My library is hit or miss as far as audio goes. I don't listen to very many audiobooks. Unlike others here, I can't really listen while I do other things, I tend to get distracted and then feel like I missed something and have to back up. It works fairly well while driving but I have a short commute to work(25 min) so books seem to take forever when I listen.

If your library uses overdrive, do a search for what you want. If you don't see what you want, at the bottom of the page there should be a box that says "don't see the digital titles you were hoping to find" (or something like that) in that box there is a "find more" tab and that brings you to a request page. Chances are it will show up on that page and you can request it. I have had opportunity to view multiple overdrive sites and they all have this option.

A YA story in the dark future where super-powered man/women take over the world and the group of normal humans who fight back.

And then thanks to GoodReads I came across a thriller I just could not pass by: Velocity (Judd Bell & Corey Purchase, #1) by Steve Worland (the best action movie you'll ever read) by Steve Worland. It sounds like it is the perfect book for me, an action junkie!

Our library has Overdrive and Hoopla. If I want a book in audio I check the library first...then go to Audible. LOL

message 3990: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Two of my libraries have OverDrive & I use it almost exclusively since I don't have to fiddle with DRM for most titles. I don't even go through the library after the initial setup, but just go directly to the OverDrive server. Fast & easy.

Fall of the White Ship Avatar

I'm almost finished with the last book of the Adventures of Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floytt. These are great stories, definately adventure, lots of action, sexy wemin and, two heroes who are not always dashing and daring.

This is an old story and I've really enjoyed it.

They are companies that contract out audio books, music, Ebooks, etc. In this case they contract with local libraries and library systems to make certain of their products available. The Nashville library system has a contract with both as well as Zinio for magazines and Freegal for music. You download books or whatever and they will stay on your computer for a given amount of time.
