I can highly recommend SOUTH as a great futuristic thriller. I've posted a review on GR and on my site.

I'm revisiting an old fun story. The Adventures of Hobart Flynn and Alacrity Fitzhugh. Better known as a trilogy that starts with "Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds by Brian Daley. It's been too long to remember it, but it is as I remembered it. That means fun and funny. Future earth is kind of socialist (left of me...if that can be imagined) but... it's the future and the story is fun. (We earthlings become such assholes in a few centuries.)
the other two in the trilogy are Jinx on a Terran Inheritance and Fall of the White Ship Avatar.

Thanks for the recommendations--I have not sample any other works of Huggins, but will certainly read some of his other books.

I'm not enjoying the second of the Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floytt Adventure trillogy. These are great. Just like I remember them, save I'm getting more of the puns and jokes. It's really an adventure story, complete with battles and gunfights and such.. .and even sexy lady with scarlet dermal stain...(what ever that is, but it sounds exotic).
There are some wonderful adventures here.... and remember, if you ever get hired on as a mourner at a Croi funeral (next time your in that edge of space that is) make sure you eat a very full lunch...
and maybe some syrup of ippykack (sp).
(The Grand Ecomium! LOL...boy, you won't get that one until you read this, but... I bet you'll use it after you do!)
The March Avenging Angel group read poll is up:

It closes on the 22nd of February.

My current "favorite quote of the day" from "Requiem for A Ruler of Worlds" by Brian Daley.
"Not a bad planet, as a matter of fact. Practicing law for money there will earn you public impalement."
Now, that's my kind of planet!

The 6th Extinction"
Sounds like Ice Station Zebra... :)

Finished Amazonia some days ago, and though its a typical awesome Rollins thrill-ride, I felt that the loud climax seemed a bit out of place and didn't really go with the book's overall philosophy of Man vs. Nature and it's hushed skincrawling psychological terror of the unknown, not to mention the villain felt cartoonish. But anyway, thats just nitpicking on my side. The book is a solid 9 out of 10 in my opinion.

Just read the third in that series Eileen Watcher of the Dark. Haven't reviewed it yet but it gets a good one. I think it's the best of series so far (and of course the last one out. It hit last Nov.)

I saw your review and as always good review. It has turned out to be a good Urban Fantasy series and there hard to find lately.
I cheat. I go with Audible on a lot of books. I can download at a moments notice and as I said listen when I do "other stuff". I'm backed up on E-books (2 of those going now with "a bunch" waiting) have a couple of paperbacks started. I'm sending some library books back unread so i can get back to "my own" books, LOL.
I love Audible...of course I also spend more there than I should.

Oh I know. They always offer a "3 credits for..." deal a couple of days before my new credit is due if I'm down to 1 credit. And I usually buy them.

Now that's impressive Travis. I'll have to check out your lists of books. Lately I've been listening to books more then "reading" them.

I've returned a few books to Audible, and you're right they're always helpful and it goes well. Another thing, I won't use a credit on a book that's $13 or less...I mean my monthly dies are $14. So I end up buying some $10 books or something as well as buying extra credits.

The only book I've read by Andy McDermott was The Hunt For Atlantis which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I won't either. That's why I'm always picking up books when they're on sale.
I know....a week ago they had "first book in the series" where first books were like $5. I bought 4 first books in a series....
I have no will power.
I have no will power.

As we head into April my listening time will dwindle down. December through April I seem to plow through books

I've read the first 4 books in his Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase series.

You purchased 16 audio books during the last audio sale...I think you'll be fine. ; )

If your library uses overdrive, do a search for what you want. If you don't see what you want, at the bottom of the page there should be a box that says "don't see the digital titles you were hoping to find" (or something like that) in that box there is a "find more" tab and that brings you to a request page. Chances are it will show up on that page and you can request it. I have had opportunity to view multiple overdrive sites and they all have this option.

And then thanks to GoodReads I came across a thriller I just could not pass by:

Our library has Overdrive and Hoopla. If I want a book in audio I check the library first...then go to Audible. LOL

Fall of the White Ship Avatar
I'm almost finished with the last book of the Adventures of Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floytt. These are great stories, definately adventure, lots of action, sexy wemin and, two heroes who are not always dashing and daring.
This is an old story and I've really enjoyed it.

Thanks, David. It does sound like a good book. I added it my TBR list.

I don't know about Hoopla but Overdrive is the system my library uses for ebooks and audiobook loans.
They are companies that contract out audio books, music, Ebooks, etc. In this case they contract with local libraries and library systems to make certain of their products available. The Nashville library system has a contract with both as well as Zinio for magazines and Freegal for music. You download books or whatever and they will stay on your computer for a given amount of time.

Thanks Eileen!
