Read "Bombardier" by Keith Fritz a couple days ago. It's a short story, and not exactly an action thriller, but it deals with vampires so it's not a total stretch to mention it here. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and posted a review here on Goodreads. Far from your usual blood-sucker story--very original and very well written.

I'm currently working on Maelstrom by Taylor Anderson. I'm going to have to give this series a huge thumbs up!

It has a different but very pleasant "feel" to it. The characters are rich, and very likeable. The battle scenes are cool and very realistic (given the tools the author gave them, lizard and cat people maybe no, but wooden ships, cannons and black powder weapons, very much so).

And, Sharon, Silva gets beat up by a Little Girl! heh... He's more complex and fun in this one and we get to learn more about him than in the previous books.

Just started and not sure how it's going to go. Not even 10% in and I've come across one of those irritating 'lack of research' things I hate.

Stocking a ranch in TX with cattle. Brought in steers and led them to pasture. (You don't lead cattle, you drive them).

Heifers coming in next week, calves mentioned. (Steers + heifers do not equal calves!)

The big battle just started "The Mother of all Swarms" ... (contented sigh) I just love well written mahem and destruction.

I also like the way he blends cultures across time into this story. Anderson is a historian, who, believe it or not, is a balistics expert (in an archeology since) so all that wonderful stuff they equip ships with in books one and two...are most likely do-able.

You'll like the newest major supporting character in book three. Gray's still kickin' but and taking names. BMCM! You go dude! ..

I agree about Patient Zero. One of my all-time favorite books. My cup of tea! The book that got me hooked on Maberry. Have you tried any of the Pine Deep novels like ?

Hoorah! Library got it in today and I'm ready to start as soon as I get evening feeding done!

Speaking of historians and early ballistics ... have you read High Citadel One of the major characters in that book is a historian, with a specialty in early ballistics/arms ... and manages to keep a 50s South American military force at bay in the Andes mountains. Fascinating book, still one of my favorites.

I haven't read it, but I am a Desmond Bagley fan. I think I have it on Kindle (of course, I've got Destroyerment 4 on Audible.com so... it'll need to wait a bit first!

Started book 4 Dead Eye in the Court Gentry series. I'm really got hooked on this series.

Don't know what to listen to next. Finished the second MHI book and want to either listen to #3 in the series, the 10th Dresden Files, the first of the destroyer series you have been discussing or the latest of the Clive Cussler "Fargo" series. Any votes?

I don't usually make negative recommendations, but, I didn't find the first Fargo book to be as good as MHI or Destroyermen (any of them). MHI - Alpha is good. Destroyermen is good. If it were me, tough decision, I'd finish the MHI Series, only to maintain it's integrity. It's of equal entertainment value as Destroyermen (High praise from me) but very different in style and content. Then I'd jump on "Into the Storm" after Legion (since book five hasn't come out yet for MHI). But that's me. It would not hurt you to jump into Destroyermen first... it's good... both good. Just different. In wonderful ways for both books.

I have read all but the most recent Fargo book and I like them. The audiobook is narrated by Scott Brick and I just like listening to him narrate! I hate having to choose.

I have to confess I'm a bit 'rabid' about both MHI and the Destroyermen series ... the Fargo books are entertaining, but while I will keep and re-read both the MHI and Destroyermen series, haven't re-read any of the Fargo books.

An older series I like very much (and have re-read many times) is the Raj Whitehall series by S.J. Stirling and David Drake. I think it's been re-published, possibly with new titles, as omnibus editions, but the 5-book series I have started with .

Scott Brick. He did a fantastic job with The Road to Gandolfo. It's a satire by Robert Ludlum himself and Brick with his "Lafontaine" style voice had me rolling!

The first one is the shakiest, and, it's good enough to crow about for me. I loved 'em!

Book 3 leaves the gang behind and goes on a Harbinger special. I personally didn't like it as well as 1 and 2 but that's just me. It was still good.

I finished two historical mysteries practically in a row. The Gods of Gotham and The Arnifour Affair, and I liked both. The Gods of Gotham was more actiony. I want to continue both series.

I also read an epic fantasy novel that was good with some nice adventure elements: The Prince's Man

finished Ex-Patriots which I think had a stronger plot than Ex Heroes. Started The Heroes. Once again I wonder why I only visit Joe Abercrombie's world once in a blue moon. And once again Michael Page is the master of fantasy narration.

I'm reading Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt novel, "Trojan Odyssey". It's dependable escapism for me. Trying to make sure I've read all his books. Even his new ghost writers, since his retirement, are pretty good!

I enjoy him too. For some reason I give Cussler a pass for his "fiction factory" while I hate James Patterson for his. Maybe it's because I've enjoyed some of Cussler's "ghost writers", especially Jack DuBrul on their own. I've got one of the next Cussler books Ghost Ship already on preorder.

And in the meantime just started the new Jane Yellowrock book Black Arts which is my favorite urban fantasy series.

That's great. I just finished four and leapt into 5.

Maybe I like these so much because I am a Plank Owner for "Re-Commissioning" the Battleship Wisconsin (BB64) which is a WWII boiler ship with big guns. (though more like Amagi than Walker) and A plank owner on USS Ramage DDG61.

The way they speak is right. The rivalries and I almost got over excited when the Walker was getting under way and Matt's giving orders to the help with the repeat back.

Just started "Feast of the Badger" and "Red Fang", two short stories by P.J. Hafner. This is another edition to the Stalk Series with protagonist and all around bad-ass Lee Bodkin. I really enjoyed the other books in this series, and so far Hafner is delivering on my expectations with "Feast of the Badger"--loving it! Will post a review later.

Just started 'Shakespeare's Rebel' by C.C. Humphreys, again not action as such, I have a few on deck once I finish this. About 30 pages in and really enjoying, so far the writing is superb.

Vlad: The Last Confession is the only C.C. Humphreys that I have read. I really didn't like the book but do have another of his sitting on my shelf. Have you read other books by him?

Just finished . A bit slow to start, as the foundation had to be laid for the next 'adventure' but after that, full speed ahead.

Characters are great and the action wonderful ... already started on the next in the series.

I thought this was a great break in the series and really enjoyed a story from the perspective of a different character. I am jumping right into the fourth book as this one reinvigorated my interest.
