Not sure where you live, but I'm in Phoenix where we (tax payers) GAVE a billionaire a $350 million football stadium so he could field a team of cast offs who, over their 115 year history, have only managed 9 post-season appearances.

Wait, are you in Buffalo territory? If so, I was rooting for the Bills in all 4 SB losses...

Peace, Seeley

I have only read the two I mentioned although I have all of them on my shelf, picked them up used about a year ago. I loaned A Song for Arbonne to one of my wife's coworkers who loved it so I have since loaned her the rest of the GGK books.

LOL

I don't even watch them. I want my $350 million back :) My son really wants to go (he's been to games in Packers, 49ers, and Redskins stadiums, not to mention a few European soccer games) and wants to root for the home team. We spent twenty minutes researching the schedule to find someone they might beat. Finally settled on the Panthers (and that's not a sure thing :)

Peace, Seeley

Trying to keep those little guys in my head that keep talking to me on track is sort of like hearding cats... does anyone know where I can find a rent-a-thought-police?

I'm still reading (listening too) Don't Know Much About Mythology: Everything You Need to Know About the Greatest Stories in Human History but Never Learned. Still gets an up check for me. I would have wanted more about Celtic Mythos, but he did say in the begining, "we aren't going to make you a guru with this book."

I really appriciate the attention he payed to the African continent and how he talked about African Mythos.

And, not exactly action adventure... I need to figure out what to read next?

To heck with Grisham, keep your eye on Chelsea this year.

message 3462: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Seeley, yes I'm in Bills territory and thank you! : )

Melissa, I think because it's the start of a new football season, we all (including myself) look forward to it. : )

Back on topic....

I'm put Earthman Jack on the back burner till I finish Mistborn. Not that I'm not enjoying the book, it's just I've waited so long to read Mistborn I wanted to give it my full attention.

Tim The Enchanter I finished the audiobook version of Scarecrow. It was quite the ride. Lots of blood and beheading. Now going with a change a pace and listening to In the Woods.

In the Woods looks good. I just added to my wish list at audible. Let me know if you like the audio version.

I'll also be interested to hear what you think of this. It's been on my list for a bit. I have read several of the Jack Taylor books by Ken Bruen and really enjoyed them (first book in the series The Guards )

message 3468: by Tim The Enchanter (new)

Tim The Enchanter So far the narrator is very good and the writing is very lyrical. Nice for listening.

message 3469: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt I'm about halfway through my re-read of The Shining. I read this shortly after it came out and I forgot just how much I enjoyed King's early books. Really loving it...again.

:) He's not exactly about storybook endings is he? Lyrical is a very good way of putting his writing style.

Good to know, I think I'll read that next.

Sharon Michael | 449 comments Picked up a freebie novella, "Raw Deal" by Mark Henwick (still free as of today) which has turned out to be surprisingly good ... kind of a hybred action/adventure crossed with urban fantasy/vampire. I am definitely not a vampire fan, but this is working for me so far.

message 3473: by Tim The Enchanter (new)

Tim The Enchanter Also just finished reading The Hangman's Daughter. I had been on my To Read list since 2011. It was definitely as good as the buzz. One of my favorite reads this year. My review if you so inclined. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
May jump into the second book of the series.

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments Pirate Latitudes was found on Crichton's computer after his death. I did enjoy the story but to give him the benefit of the doubt I don't think he was truly finished with it . There were some thin parts almost had the feel of a first novel to it. While the idea of the plot was pretty good the writing and details were lacking in quality a bit.

Sharon Michael | 449 comments Just finished Amongst My Enemies by William F. Brown which I found reminiscent of some of my early Alastair MacLean favorites. Storyline based on a WWII scenario, excellent characterization and interesting plot framework. If you like Alastair MacLean and Desmond Bagley, you should like this one.

Ive finished Don't Know Much About Mythology: Everything You Need to Know About the Greatest Stories in Human History but Never Learned and I picked up The Riders of the Sidhe and read about a 1/3 of it. It was good and I'll return to it, but what I was really looking for when I picked up that book was Gods of Ireland: The Hound of Eire by Kenneth C. Flint.

From what I can tell, this is the first book of that trilogy but the third book was published in 1981 and this one looks like it was published in 2011.

That's curoius to me. Anyway, reading it first then I'll go to the Sidhe legends. And maybe the Finn McCumal books. (we'll see). Gods of Ireland The Hound of Eire (Son of the Sidhe, #1) by Kenneth C. Flint

Now starting Heartwood (Elemental Wars, #1) by Freya Robertson which I obtained as an advance read.

Eileen, I didnt especially like Utopia. I loved Pendergast, but I don't find Childs as good by himself.

I liked this one, Janey. It's wonderfully creepy and scary with lots of heroes and things going on and getting munched in creative ways.

Michael Smith (michaelsmith) I am currently reading Codename Chimera by J.K. Persy Fast-paced mystery/action!

message 3492: by megHan (new)

megHan (raiyine) | 7 comments Codename: Atlas by Tony Evans.

Post-apocalyptic, different factions fighting for control of land. Good so far. Was wanting more action considering that the different factions run themselves with military precision, but nothing specific to complain about.

Favorite part so far: the description of a grenade taking out a machine-gunner AND the way Atlas publicly takes out a traitor.
