Bless you! I just downloaded Powder Burn after finishing the first chapter. Looks like you're out of the woods there. It looks like a good read. I also just read the first chapter of Agnes and the Hitman, and it looks like a winner. Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie

Turns out this is the 1st Bob Mayer book that I am not crazy about.....found it kinda boring. I have read about 12 of this books prior to this and liked them ALL. All were 4 or 5 star reviews. I was kind to this one and gave it 3-stars. Not much action, or Black Ops...more of a standard police / detective story. Not what I was looking for. I am still a huge Bob Mayer fan and I have several other of his books on my Kindle....but I thought this one was just so-so.

Magiccats | 285 comments Hm, i may give that one a try too, I have started a couple of books in the last couple of days and am just not getting into them, so was kind of at a loss.

Philip McClimon (philmwrites) | 32 comments Just finished Unicorn Western Unicorn Western by Johnny B. Truant and Fat Vampire Fat Vampire by Johnny B. Truant

I know the writers meant for Unicorn Western to be funny, and it is sorta, but it really is kinda of a good Western, aside from the fact that the tough marshal rides... a unicorn. Fat Vampire is a neat twist on the Vampire genre, which usually I am not a fan of, but I was of this. Both books by Truant, so I am sorta reading his stuff right now.

THANKS! I have a Kindle Touch. I'll have to research that some because I climb a mountain every morning for an hour and half and would love to listen to something (I'm tired of podcasts).

Thanks! Since winning a Kindle HD (Thanks again, Seeley) I've been doing a lot more text to speech these days, myself. I'll make sure I have a box of tissues when I start reading.

Thanks Jim, that's great to hear!

And you'll be relieved to know that I'm on Ch.3 of book #4 :-)

A couple of reviews have said that Powder Burn's a slow-starter, so good to hear that the opening grabbed you... let's see how you go with the rest ;-)

Melissa Krueger | 37 comments I just read, The Informationist, by Taylor Stevens. It was OK, kind of awkward in places but a good woman in the lead role and a very good plot. I bought the second in the series and haven't cracked it yet. Can anyone tell me, is it worth it?

Yunno. Oddly enough, I think it has to start out that way to set it up properly. I'm not sure just how you planted the seeds, but the implication (the "promise") is that this motley crew is headed into a world of trouble. I thought you really nailed the voice and dialog of the characters. That should be a difficult task, seeing as you are a Brit.

I've seen so many British shows and movies that I pick up the inflections and idioms - or just laugh anyway. But I could never write in character. Cheers!

David Dalton | 152 comments I am now reading the 1st book (Pronto) in Raylan Givens 3-Book Collection by Elmore Leonard by Elmore Leonard. As a fan of Justified, I figured it is about time to read his book adventures. The price currently for this 3-book collection is like $20. Man! I picked it up for $5 a year ago.

Many thanks, and yes, sometimes you can't just start with a dead body :-)

I've watched a lot of US films and tv series, so that helps with the voice, but I also 'cheated' a bit and hired an American editor to pick up any british-isms that remained. He found a few (it's flashlight, not torch) and I think he did a great job, because no one has complained about my dodgy accents... yet!

David Dalton | 152 comments I finished with Pronto, the 1st Raylan Givens book in the 3 book collection: Raylan Givens 3-Book Collection by Elmore Leonard .

I liked it. The Marshall appears to be cooler in the TV show (Justified), but you can read where the TV show "borrowed" some of the plot lines from this story. While I was reading Pronto I was seeing Timothy (Marshall Givens) talking & acting.

I will read a few other books before I come back to the 2nd Marshall Givens book in this collection: Riding the Rap.

******
I am just starting a YA sci-fi story: Mila 2.0 (MILA 2.0, #1) by Debra Driza . Only about 7% into. Hope something happens soon, as right now it is about as exciting as watching a "G" rated afternoon special. All this talk of sci-fi Jason Bourne android action.........

Henry (henoir99) | 20 comments I am currently 3/4 of the way through Crusader Gold by David Gibbins. So far he has worked Romans, Vikings, Crusaders, Nazis, Mayans, Eskimos, Jerusalem, Constantinople, The Vatican, 1066, Icebergs and King Arthur into a very good conspiracy/adventure/treasure hunt story. I am really enjoying it and can't wait for what he throws at me next (Aliens wouldn't surprise me).

Really enjoying all of them.

I just started Six Years by Harlan Coben but just can't get into it for some reason. I'm three pages in and it feels like a bad attempt at romance. Guess I'm not in the mood :)

I might switch to The Kill Room by Jeffery Deaver . Mr. Deaver was just here last week and autographed my copy. Fun is it?

Peace, Seeley

I'm only about 100 pages in, but really enjoying the style. Still getting comfortable with the characters. I didn't realize that these characters and an earlier book were the basis for a Denzel Washington movie I really enjoyed, The Bone Collector. I have a feeling Deaver's going on my list.

David Dalton | 152 comments Well, I finished reading Mila 2.0. A pretty good YA sci-fi action thriller. Oh, they promise you Jason Bourne action, but the action is toned down to a "PG-13" level for the YA readers. Still, take it as it is: a suspenseful story with everyone trying to get Mila.

****
I went from reading a PG-13 YA novel to reading a very much "R" rate action/special forces/zombies thriller called: Arisen, Book Four - Maximum Violence by Glynn James/Michael Stephen Fuchs. With a title like Maximum Violence I am expecting TONS of blazing zombie killing action!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I gave 4 stars to Dead Anyway by Chris Knopf. A tech thriller & the first I've read by him. Someone recently wrote a review about it which intrigued me & I managed to find it as an audio book. I forget who you were, but thank you!
