Okay, I've finished Judas Unchained and, it's going to get a review. It's a 4-5 star read for me. That's a good sci-fi novel and a half there... and the first one is pretty darned good too. High marks from me.
I've started 17 Degrees North by Larry Seeley. I'm only about 20 pages in and I really like what I've read so far. Very polished writing.

If you enjoy or appreciate ships, history, or discovery stories, or can’t get enough Krakauer or Junger, you should consider this book. Four stars.
If you're interested, my review is at http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

Mine too. Good stuff."

Another vote for the Amber titles. Also, I am reading and enjoying a sample of

I enjoyed the movie years ago but never realized there was a series of Creasy books until a few months ago. I have this on my Kindle and am trying to fit it into my schedule.
Just finished Brave New World and am starting Valdez Is Coming.

Here's my review:

I'm reading 17 Degrees North and about halfway through it, maybe a little more.
I like the quote from the front of the book from a song by Townes Van Zandt
I like the version by Hagard and Nelson
Since I know the song well, one of my favorites from way back, it set the stage well for the story.
If you liked Steve Trotter's Resurrected, you'll love this one.
It's got the same gritty feel and Larry Seeley's a polished writer. This may be an indie pub, but Seeley done a good job. Smooth read.
It's a modern Crime story with an "old west" appeal.
It's a good read.

I think this first Rain book dates from 1992, so just post-Fall-of-the-Wall. I haven't seen his earlier stuff so I will look that out. His bio says he did three years covert in the CIA, and he really seems to do his research -- the books have a very authentic feel. It's in the Le Carre mould of spy thriller, lots of good tradecraft detail, definitely my kind of thing...

I have that sitting on my desk, #3 in the stack. Let me know if it's worth the effort, I saw some disappointed fans posting on some forum around here.
Peace, Seeley

What did you think?
Finally got around to The Crown Conspiracy, though I'm actually into Theft of Swords which includes Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha. Starting out well.

I want to read that, let me know what you think."
Just started this morning and I'm already 300 pages in, so I guess you could say I'm enjoying the book! :) I have a couple of his other books on my kindle but haven't found the time to read them yet. If they are anything like this I'll have to make time. Have you read any of his other titles, Eileen?

What did you think?"
I was a little disappointed with Monster Hunter Alpha since it only dealt with Harbinger. I would have liked to see the whole gang involved in the story.
Don't worry, the whole Hee-Haw gang is coming in the next one! (and don't forget to bring a live chicken if you have to fly anywhere... "Evil spirits!" ... just ask Skippy!)

I want to read that, let me know what you think."

I'd say your liking it! Can't wait to read it.
I've only read one other book by Joe Hill and that was, Horns. Which I really liked.

That was a good movie! I didn't know there was a series either. I learned something new today, thanks!

I have Horns and Heart-Shaped Box waiting. A little over halfway now and it reminds me a little of some of his old man's early work.....or maybe I'm just projecting.
Finished Resurrectionist, and it was good. Very dark historical thriller set in Regency England. Hawkwood is definitely a good action hero.
Started Stormdancer. Really interesting worldbuilding so far.

I finisihed 17 Degrees North by Larry Seeley. Well done book!
I just started, moment's ago, Powder Burn by Mark Chisnell. I'm looking foreward to reading it.

Then staying on a zombie kick: Kill Them Dead: Genesis - Episode 2 By Ben Finn/Marc Webb. Zombies in outer space....where can you hide?
Just to be different, I switched to a Vampire kick butt series: 32 Fangs: A Final Vampire Tale by David Wellington. No love lost vampires here......blood & bullets baby!

Kill Them Dead look good too... Zombie/Horror mixing with heavy dose of action adventure is quickly becoming my favorite sub-genre! Although still not a fan of Vampire.

Oh! Many thanks, Hugh!! But that's a 'moment' plus 23 hours, 49 minutes according to my timeline, so I can already start getting anxious about the coming review.... :-)

Okay, mark, I have to take a stand. With me, Flattery will get you.... ANYWHERE!
After reading that you are anxious about a review from me? (really?) my Shadow refused to get in my car this morning and I had to take the family van (or, as I like to call it, the Urban Assault Vehicle) because my ego had grown so big I need a booster seat for both of them.

Well. No more than my normal level of anxiety... :-)

Answer
I magine that sound as my ego deflates to 1/4 of it's original size.
I'd like to thank "The Great Carnak" and "The Tonight Show" for answering that question before they read it. I didn't know how this information would come in handy.. .now I do.

Everything, everywhere, comes in useful at some stage. At least, that's what I tell my wife about the contents of the man-drawer.
I'm hoping for something wordy, by the way ;-)
Okay, so, that's one "sis-boom-bah" version... got it.
Wordy? ... Me? ...I'll try but obese verbosity and over flowing descriptive reviewing, with a tendency towards dtailed description and moment's of retrospective, rambling thinking and belabering of points is not usually something I endevor to....
... ah who am I tryin' to kid? You'll get the long version... My pleasure! :)

Whoa, I was reading Locke and Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft & Locke and Key, Vol. 2: Head Games for somedays but until right now, had absolutely no idea that he is the son of Stephen-freaking-King! And now I find out he wrote some great looking horror novels too....All of which has now gone to my ever-towering TBR list.
Thanks Eileen and Ctgt for the nudge!
P.S. Horns is being adapted to a film with Daniel Radcliffe as the lead... I knew that for a while now and was excited for its weirdly interesting plot, but yeah, never knew about the novel.

Rizwan: The David Wellington vampire books are full of action.....no love lost teen angst here. These vampires are totally ruthless. The main vampire hunter is a tough as nails female lead.

I really liked the Geneva Decision too and, guess what...there is a sequel! It became available a couple of month's ago. (I think).

You're welcome, Rizwan! Happy to add to your ever going list of books. Joe Hill can weave wonderful tales of horror.
I had no idea Horns was being made into a movie, thanks for the info!

I was wondering about this book, it looked like something I might like. I've never read anything by this author and thought this would be a good place to start. Overall, what did you think?
