Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just started Shibumi, a 70's era spy thriller. It's really fascinating so far. I read it when it first came out, so I'm glad it's still good.

Bev, Amber is an old favorite of mine. I love it.

message 2654: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Reading so many different books at the moment. A book for my phone when I'm driving, one on my Kindle I'm listening to during a project I'm working on. I even have a paperback going when I have time to sit down and read. I'm driving myself a little crazy.

Okay, I've finished Judas Unchained and, it's going to get a review. It's a 4-5 star read for me. That's a good sci-fi novel and a half there... and the first one is pretty darned good too. High marks from me.

I've started 17 Degrees North by Larry Seeley. I'm only about 20 pages in and I really like what I've read so far. Very polished writing.

message 2658: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson Shadow Divers is a quest story, and, as those often are, a story of obsession. It chronicles the discovery of a sunken U-boat off New Jersey by a group of die-hard wreck divers and their six-year campaign to identify that relic.

If you enjoy or appreciate ships, history, or discovery stories, or can’t get enough Krakauer or Junger, you should consider this book. Four stars.

If you're interested, my review is at http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

Another vote for the Amber titles. Also, I am reading and enjoying a sample of Man On Fire by A.J. Quinnell

Miekey Rodriguez | 19 comments I'm reading Six Years. I like Harlan Coben but I'm not sure about this one. I keep shaking my head at the protagonist's motivations. I'll keep at it though, it is Coben.

I enjoyed the movie years ago but never realized there was a series of Creasy books until a few months ago. I have this on my Kindle and am trying to fit it into my schedule.

Just finished Brave New World and am starting Valdez Is Coming.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just finished Shibumi by Trevanian. Very good, 4 stars. He's the author that wrote The Eiger Sanction which was turned into a great movie with Clint Eastwood & George Kennedy.

I'm reading 17 Degrees North and about halfway through it, maybe a little more.

I like the quote from the front of the book from a song by Townes Van Zandt

I like the version by Hagard and Nelson

Since I know the song well, one of my favorites from way back, it set the stage well for the story.

If you liked Steve Trotter's Resurrected, you'll love this one.

It's got the same gritty feel and Larry Seeley's a polished writer. This may be an indie pub, but Seeley done a good job. Smooth read.

It's a modern Crime story with an "old west" appeal.

It's a good read.

I think this first Rain book dates from 1992, so just post-Fall-of-the-Wall. I haven't seen his earlier stuff so I will look that out. His bio says he did three years covert in the CIA, and he really seems to do his research -- the books have a very authentic feel. It's in the Le Carre mould of spy thriller, lots of good tradecraft detail, definitely my kind of thing...

David Dalton | 152 comments Finished reading my zombie/special forces thriller: Arisen, Book Three - Three Parts Dead by Glynn James/Michael Stephen Fuchs. Tons of action: bullets & zombies all OVER the place.

Then staying on a zombie kick: Kill Them Dead: Genesis - Episode 2 By Ben Finn/Marc Webb. Zombies in outer space....where can you hide?

Just to be different, I switched to a Vampire kick butt series: 32 Fangs: A Final Vampire Tale by David Wellington. No love lost vampires here......blood & bullets baby!

message 2684: by Rizwan (new)

Rizwan Khalil The Arisen series looks awesome, already collected them and gone to my TBR pile.

Kill Them Dead look good too... Zombie/Horror mixing with heavy dose of action adventure is quickly becoming my favorite sub-genre! Although still not a fan of Vampire.

message 2685: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt Hey Eileen, loved NOS4A2! Check it out when you get a chance. Had some nods to some of King's books. I heard he was trying distance himself from his father's writing style but this had a similar vibe/feel to some of King's early titles.

Okay, mark, I have to take a stand. With me, Flattery will get you.... ANYWHERE!

After reading that you are anxious about a review from me? (really?) my Shadow refused to get in my car this morning and I had to take the family van (or, as I like to call it, the Urban Assault Vehicle) because my ego had grown so big I need a booster seat for both of them.

Answer

I magine that sound as my ego deflates to 1/4 of it's original size.

I'd like to thank "The Great Carnak" and "The Tonight Show" for answering that question before they read it. I didn't know how this information would come in handy.. .now I do.

Wordy? ... Me? ...I'll try but obese verbosity and over flowing descriptive reviewing, with a tendency towards dtailed description and moment's of retrospective, rambling thinking and belabering of points is not usually something I endevor to....

Whoa, I was reading Locke and Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft & Locke and Key, Vol. 2: Head Games for somedays but until right now, had absolutely no idea that he is the son of Stephen-freaking-King! And now I find out he wrote some great looking horror novels too....All of which has now gone to my ever-towering TBR list.
