I've read the first three and have really enjoyed them. I don't know if they are as good as the ones that you mentioned as I am only on Gone, Baby, Gone right now.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments Just finished The Moscow Club by Joseph Finder. Given Finder's pedigree, I thought I was going to get a reality-based espionage novel; instead, it's a global-conspiracy thriller using some of the hoariest tropes of that subgenre.

As long as you go in knowing that's what you'll get, it's good enough company. In case you're interested, my review is at http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

Rizwan Khalil After couldn't deciding for a week on what A/A to read from the pile of books on my table lebeled "next read", which include several Cusslers, Rollins, couple of Ludlums (Matarese Circle,Parsifal Mosaic) and a DuBrul (The Medusa Stone), one a whim started today The Breach by Patrick Lee. Right now almost in the middle, and so far so good, though I thought it'd be more techno-scifi thriller than a chase thriller....Lets see how it goes.

Anyone read The Breach Trilogy? any comments about the series?

I've read the Parsifal Mosaic and Liked it, but that was years ago. The Ludlum books written by Ludlum have never disappointed me. The latest one he wrote (that I know was him) was "The Sigma Protocol" and I thought it was really good. My favorite Ludlum is still "The Holcroft Covenant" though, I may be the only one there.

I rad the Riddle-Master of Hed Trilogy a long time ago too. It's cool Epic fantasy. I tend to group it more with the "Farsea Trilogy" and less with the Sword of Shanara types, but, that may be to much of an artificial construction.

I read it back in the year it came out...I think '75, but it might have been '76. Of course the sequels came out later.

Yeah I went through a phase where I read all Ludlum's books to. He was a great writer.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just got my first 3 Robert Crais books in the mail. Not sure what I'll feel like when I finish Down Among the Dead Men: A Year in the Life of a Mortuary Technician. That should be today. It's been a while since I read a fantasy & that's a quick one, although I really want to read Fugitive Prince by Janny Wurts, too.

I'll throw in NIGHT PROBE & CYCLOPS along with the others mentioned. If you want 100% pure edge-off-seat breathless action and suspense without much regard to characterization, its hard to beat CYCLOPS. And for a great story with depth, structure and yes, characterization, along with usual action & a nice little mystery to throw in, NIGHT PROBE! is one of the best Cussler has ever written.

I second TREASURE, one of my other favorite. Also I'd recommend starting with PACIFIC VORTEX! which is chronologically Dirk Pitt's first adventure.

WHOA! No one does swashbuckling better than the great Rafael Sabatini. Captain Blood is awesome, but my favorite is The Black Swan.

And I should REALLY get around to read the epic Stand and It one of these days. How did you like it?

message 2431: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments The Stand was good but don't read it expecting alot of action because there is very little. there is though almost too much detail and too many pages to tell the story, but it is well written and I gave it 4 stars. As for the age old debate of Swan Song vs The STand I give Swan Song a half star higher rating than the stand because a little more action and much more destruction.

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments Now its hopefully finishing soon The Geneva Decision because I've been a month on it for no good reason. Then I'm also working on The Dirt: Confessions Of The World's Most Notorious Rock Band then hopefully taking a break back into Louis L'amour's Sackett Series which after the death of Barnabus Sackett I had to take a break of before moving on.

Louis L'Amour's westerns are some of my most cherished books of all time. The Daybreakers & The Sackett Brand are my all time favorite Sackett novels, but seriously I read & re-read most of the Sacketts countless times. Aside for Sacketts, my other absolute favorites would be The Kilkenny Trilogy (The Rider of Lost Creek-The Mountain Valley War-Kilkenny) and The Lonesome Gods. I can't say enough how much I love these and his other westerns!

Recently started reading Comestock Lode, but put down after a few pages and for whatever reason never got to take back. Anyone read it?

Romanov Cross looks good, just added it to my list. Just finishedThe Riddle-Master of Hed, what a cool little book. Lot's of ideas and not many pages. Really takes you back to the day when books were not a mammoth undertaking(1000 pages).

message 2442: by Rizwan (new)

Rizwan Khalil Has anyone read the April read: The Hammer and the Blade? It looks intriguing, so I want to know if its a complete adventure with a proper ending or the start of a big ongoing series....I don't really want to start an epic sprawling saga like Wheel of Time or Sword of Truth, just a quick read.

message 2443: by Rizwan (new)

Rizwan Khalil Finished The Breach, and honestly, its a VERY fun read! I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good entertaining action-suspense novel with some scifi mixed in. Started now Ghost Country, the next one in the trilogy.

I'm still reading Escaping Life by Michelle Muckley. It's not an action/adventure, so it's not really in this genre.

It is very good, uplifting and a wonderful read. I'd say it's a tense but cozy mystery with a healing theme. People get better, despite what's going on, not worse.

I'd catagorize it's more of a psycholgical thriller than anything with warm and personable characters that you'll feel like you know, or at least undersand by the end of it.

I just started it so I can't say for sure, but it's referenced as The Tales of Egil and Nix (book 1). There are no other books in the series yet, but it looks like they are intended. If I had to guess, I would say each are planned to be self-contained adventures focused on the 2 heroes. I'm only about 15 percent of the way in right now. Really enjoying it so far though.

Thanks for that helpful insight. To me, too, it looks more episodic than continuous, and if the characters & story are good, I don't think I'd mind much if some background details eventually build into an overarching story arc....Already have the ebook, so hopefully will read it soon.
