I'm half way through Eisler's The Detachment, and really enjoying it.
And Gun Church sounds like a great premise, kind of a Fight Club with guns idea?

I snuck a short Fantasy Story in there The Wizard Takes the Cake which turned out to be very good, actually, humorous (to an extent) and a surprise (if sad) twist at the end. Fun short story by Red Tash clearly designed to be the first of a series of shorts staring the Wizard and his young apprentice.
Upon finishing that, I picked up Thunder by Anthony Bellaleigh (Action/Aficionados Member Author). I wasn't sure what to expect but, so far, I'm glad I picked it up. It was a bit "shuffled" scene wise in the begining (but, that worked for me too) and now it's opening up into a really interesting story (fitting this genre).
Oh, and, I don't know how much of a Heroine Role she'll have, but he's got one heck of a good Lady Cop-Heroine type. (Very nicely done.)

Exactly. I'll be interested to hear what some of the authors in this group think of the book. What do you do to get the creative juices flowing?

If someone has a problem with baldness, just tell them...

Great review, Seeley!

Just finished Zero Point by Tim Fairchild...great job Tim!
Now off to start Shift Omnibus Edition (Shift 1-3) by Hugh Howey. It's the continuation of Wool Omnibus. Actually its the prequel, was written after Wool, gets a little confusing but I know it will be good!

That's on my "Next Read" short list! I've wanted to read that since I heard it was a Clive Cussler contest finalist.
I'm enjoying Thunder by Anthony Bellaleigh. This is very different from Firebird, darker, much darker. It's also a good read! I'm liking it.

Yes,Seeley, Eileen's right, thats a good review (you rebel you).
Thunder is a thriller told in first person-present tense too, in parts, not the entire story. Sometimes that bugs me, but Anthony's using it well. Rather than a flash back, it's almost like a flash forward.

And it is a good ride. Don't miss this one!

Ironically, given our other discussion, I just went to find Gun Church and it's $12 (£7.49)! I'll watch out for it going cheaper...
I have the most tedious process for getting ideas - washing up. Yup, the most tedious job in domestic administration is usually where I have my best ideas. Unless the missus has Big Bang on the tv, in which case I listen to that instead... :-)

Makes sense. I'm usually on auto-pilot when I'm cleaning up :\

Because of your review I added the audio book to my list, thanks.

There's been mixed reviews about this series. I've read the series and I thought they were excellent. I'll be interested to hear what you think when your finished with the trilogy.

So many books... so little time!
Another book goes on the list.
Renee wrote: "I'm reading The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan. Quite the page turner and the best part is that this is book 1 of a trilogy, so I got 2 more to look forward to."
This one sounds intriguing...added it to my ever growing list!

Wow! I thought I was in bad shape and I'm only pushing 300 on my Kindle. Probably have 150 dead tree books laying around. Good Luck!

Wow Dipanjan, I thought my Kindle was bad with 700! The only antidote I can think of is to stay off of Goodreads...but that wouldn't be any fun :) Maybe we just need to take a speed-reading class! I guess if we're going to have an addiction, books is a good one to have :)

....I know I don't have an Ereader. My books are all paper or audio from Audible or the library. I have a house full of double loaded book shelves.
I've said this before but the title of this thread always puts me in mind of a country song (get passed the advertisement:

Well...I'm not sure if that's true but I've asked God if I could live till I read all the books I have waiting. Of course I doubt He'll go along with that as I keep buying books.

Free books on Kindle... the ultimate in over-consumption :)
after reading that, I had to check. I'd deleted a bunch last week after deciding the free-99 cent books were mostly NOT worth reading. Now I have 60 left TBR.

Dipanjan wrote: "@ Melissa - I bought only one 99 cent book. And it sucked so bad that I quickly rushed back to the premium-priced ones. As if King Kong was chasing me."
Wool started out as a 99cent book on amazon last year, and now it's turned into Wool Omnibus and Shift Omnibus Edition, as well as just sold the movie rights...so I would say some of them can be very good. And if you haven't heard of Wool, I highly recommend you check it out!

I second that, and in the era of Indie Pubs, as much as I liked Wool, dark dystopian and very interesting, I found the Spinward Fringe Series as good or better and in a different direction (being future based, space oriented sci-fi). First book is also an "Omnibus" Origins and the rest of the group is around $4 or less.
Between Wool and Spinward Fringe I have high hopes for Independently published sci-fi (and Dystopian Novels). I was just checking out Jeffery's book. Looks really good too...

Glad I could help :)...oh wait, I didn't help...but I'm not sorry either, because I think you might enjoy them!

I always read the description and only if it sounds like something I might like, do I download it. I also do the same with library books by authors I don't know and while probably don't finish more of the free downloads than the new-to-me library books, I'd say probably a third of the library books are DNFs for me as well.
Again, as far as finding new authors I like and want to read more of ... those I want to keep to re-read, not just ones that are 'readable' ... I can only give the stats.
I added 4 new books from library book introductions to my 'must buy' list in the 5 years before I bought my Kindle. In the 14 months I've had my Kindle I have now added 6 authors to that list and the introductory book of each author/series was a free download.
Pre-Kindle I didn't buy books I didn't know for sure I would like to read and want to keep and now, post-Kindle, I see no reason to change that.
I agree Sharon, some of the best series/authors I have found have started from a free Kindle download.

There's nothing like a good recommendation...that's my first go to spot for books. I can't tell you how many good books I have discovered just from our little group here at AAA. I never would have read Monster Hunter International if it hadn't have been recommended so highly here (side note: another to add to your reading list). Such a great find!

Ha Ha...again, so sorry! I also find that recommending books is just as addicting as finding books!
