What are you reading now?

I struggled with 12.21: A Novel a little. I thought there was a lot of extraneous information that could have been cut to make the story more streamlined.
Hope you like it.

Oh, no, she's in the story and so is the bikini, though it's only mentioned as being worn the day before her introduction scene and we don't actually get to see it. I did mention that on my review.

Jack R? How 'bout Jessie Ventura or Hulk Hogan? If it was a silent movie, I'd nominate Zah Guvanateah, Arnie. 'Course with his "book!" selling like hotcakes, he'd probably turn it down. His BOOK! You gotta be kidding me!

Not at all, Janey. I am not up on actors enough to pick one, but Reacher is a giant that know how to use it and his brain. Tom Cruise...? Not so much.

I'm about 75% done and it is excellent so far."
I'm glad you're enjoying it. Do you plan to keep going with the series?

I gotta start reading smaller books, lately everthing I pick up to read is at least 600 or more pages long. They've all been good, so that's a positive.

I hear you, I have a couple more mystery/crime books next in line that are fairly short, then I HAVE to read
Assassin's Quest

I let too much time lapse between the first and second books, so I need to get crackin' on the third.

How about Josh Duhamel?"
Have to rough the guy up a bit. Never saw him. Does this mean I have to watch Transformers? Otherwise, he's better than Tom Thumb.

Yes you do! I think Duhamel was in the second movie. The first
Transformer movie was my favorite. Now that I think about it, I haven't
seen the last Transformer movie.... maybe this weekend.
I'll admit in public, I love the Transformer toys!

Mitch Rapp goes after the "politically correct" in Afghanistan; puts them in their place then goes after the other bad guys. Great lines (makes me laugh out loud) and lots of action. Can't wait to get back to it.

Yeah. My nephew was really into 'em . . . and he was six. Heloooo! Well, I just found out that the Raylan series is on Netflix DVD, so I'm watchin' that first.
Cheers to Dutch for winning the NBA!

Hey! Go check out Mark's picture. If he's taller than 5'7" he's got the part. I just downloaded the Kindle sample of Mark's new book The Fulcrum Files It looks like a winner to me!

Stetham really fits 'the look' for me. Not familiar with his acting.

And who would you me talking about, Mudgeon? Short? Fat? Bald?

And slow.
And slow.

I will definitely continue with the series. I really like Connolly's writing. The Book of Lost Things is still my favorite of his.

He's recently become a new favorite author of mine. I will definitely check out The Book of Last Things, thanks.

Micheal Conally, Catherine Colter, are just a couple of authors I follow.

Finished The Really Dreadful Crime Company and I've I'm about 1/3 of the way through Black Cross Greg Iles.
Black Cross is good so far. It's a WWII story dealing with concentration camps and other things from the darkest side of Nazi Germany. Its shocking but only because it's likely accurate. The story is good though.

I finished Chris Pavone's The Expats and posted a review - anyone here read it?

He was the hulk in the first Hulk...well, the one several years ago with Nick Nolte and Jennifer Conoly. That was a while back. More recently he played "Hector" in the movie "Troy."

Some of those images (the above link) are old, he's aged some, but I thought of him because he's tall and athletic looking and, though soft spoken, he doesn't speak like he's got a mouth full of mush and he has pretty intense eyes, when the camera's right anyway.
Of course, he's okay with my wife too...probably for the same reasons. Brad Pitt did a good job with Troy (Achilles). Who played "Paris" in that movie?

Currently reading Black Cross by Greg Iles. This is a good old fashioned Ludlum-esque espionage story from WWII with a "historical human testimony" theme.
In movie terms this is "Where Eagles Dare" meets "Schindlers List." Interesting Hero, a pacifist. Strong female characters, and strong in ways that women excel in. (Though the circumstances are barely in the same universe, the female characters remind me of the two main women in Finding Round. It's so hard to get strong women right, even for women.)

And one amusing glitch so far. Interview with a rural 'retiree' who supposedly kills a chicken on their arrival, cooks and feeds them. Author should have taken the time to call someone who has actually done this for an accurate description.

I just finished People of the Lakes by Richard and Kathleen O'Neill Gear. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Their books are so long I hesitate to get into them (800 pages.) (EIGHT-HUNDRED PAGES!?) But I always very shortly find myself not willing to put them down.
These folk are professional historians/archeologists. Their detail of life in North America 2000 years ago is amazing. (They provide a 4 page bibliography.) Of course, they have to rely on more recent populations plus archeology to deduce social custom, but the physical is there to be dug up.
The characters seem to be real people. Lots of action, threat, and fights. Complicated plot. Supernatural occurrences. Good writing.

People of the Wolf by Kathleen O'Neal Gear is the first of that series right? They sound interesting. Anything like The Clan of the Cave Bear?

Just finished the auidobook Black Cross by Greg Iles. it's a really good book. Dick Hill narrated and did an outstanding job. The story is engaging, complex and though it started slow, kept my attenion and ramped up at the end. Overall it's worth the read. Very recommended! Espionage, Action story set in WWII with a pacafist for a main character and some very strong and brave personalities all around. The inner conflicts were as interesting and engaging as the high octane gunfights and risk taking was. Very good read.

Now I'm reading Rage.

What do you guys think? Are you OK with Hollywoods choice?

I think they picked Cruise because he is a box office draw and big money maker for the movie industry. And people will go to the movies to see him. I'll probably wait till it comes out on DVD, it will probably be a well done movie.

AND doesn't Child write Reacher at real age? Shouldn't he be an older looking, distinguished guy?

I'm a fan of Cruise and he has made some good action movies IMO. His poersonal life...not so much a fan.

Origins is my current read. I'm really enjoying it. Interesting lead character, and interesting supporting cast. Roles for strong female characters and even a sensitive male hero. Set in space, though the environment reminds me of Hugh Howelys "Wool."
Good science fiction, or military sci-fi (not sure if it qualifies as "Space Opera" yet, but, it's good. Not as involved as "Pandora's Star" (which i loved) by Hamilton, but better devloped and a better read (in my opinion) than OSC's Ender's game.
Of course I just got into it. there is time for me to decide it's hogwash if it turns to bird poop on me.

Your welcome. It's not a comparative plot and story-line to wool, but there's something about the feel of it that reminds me of wool. I've only read a little of it but I really like the lead character and the supporting cast.
The Freeground is also a neat creation...though it's not actually on the ground.

The more I listen to this book the less I see Cruise. They describe Reacher as being a big bulky man.
